Book Albanian Identity in History and Traditional Performance

Download or read book Albanian Identity in History and Traditional Performance written by Eno Koço and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2021-07-05 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book represents a group of individual musical essays collected under common Albanian themes, with a particular focus on historical identities and traditional musical performance. It shows that, at the beginning of the 18th century, there was a growing interest in representing the Albanian hero Scanderbeg on the operatic stage, as some well-known composers of baroque music began to place a greater emphasis on music’s dramatic power to elicit emotional response. The book also notes that this sense of drama was also incorporated into the vocal forms such as opera.

Book Former Yugoslavia Through Documents

Download or read book Former Yugoslavia Through Documents written by Snezana Trifunovska and published by Martinus Nijhoff Publishers. This book was released on 1999-05 with total page 1394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the end of the 1980s and beginning of the 1990s onwards, the world's attention has been occupied with the events which eventually led to the dissolution of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and to the creation of five independent and sovereign states. Apart from the humanitarian disaster and the devastated economies of the countries created on the territory of the former Yugoslavia, it brought some important issues of international law to the forefront, and provided the impetus for some new and rapid developments. The book is an epilogue to the first, very successful, collection Yugoslavia through Documents: from its creation to its dissolution, published by Martinus Nijhoff Publishers in 1994. However, because of the complexity of the issues in the political, military, humanitarian and legal fields, its structure is different. The book is divided into an Introduction and nine Parts, each of them dealing with specific issues and containing, where appropriate, the Editor's note, comment or additional information. These two volumes constitute an absolutely essential collection for all research libraries.

Book Historical Dictionary of Albania

Download or read book Historical Dictionary of Albania written by Robert Elsie and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2010 with total page 663 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Albania is not well known by outsiders; it was deliberately closed to the outside world during the communist era. Now it has thankfully become free again, its borders are open and it can be visited, and it is increasingly integrating with the rest of Europe and beyond. Unfortunately, Albania has had its share of problems in the post-communist era; it's a land of destitution and despair, thanks in part to the Albanian mafia, which has turned the country into one of blood-feuds, kalashnikovs, and eternal crises. Yet, Albania is, in essence, a European nation like any other ...

Book Area Handbook for Albania

Download or read book Area Handbook for Albania written by William Giloane and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2021-04-25 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'The Area Handbook for Albania' seeks to present an overview of the various social, political, and economic aspects of the country as they appeared in 1970. The leaders of the Communist Party have gone to extremes to maintain an aura of secrecy about their nation and their efforts to govern it. Material on Albania is scanty and some that is available is not reliable but, using their own judgments on sources, the authors have striven for objectivity in this effort to depict Albanian society in 1970.

Book The Routledge Companion to Contemporary European Theatre and Performance

Download or read book The Routledge Companion to Contemporary European Theatre and Performance written by Ralf Remshardt and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-08-24 with total page 978 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a comprehensive overview of contemporary European theatre and performance as it enters the third decade of the twenty-first century. It combines critical discussions of key concepts, practitioners, and trends within theatre-making, both in particular countries and across borders, that are shaping European stage practice. With the geography, geopolitics, and cultural politics of Europe more unsettled than at any point in recent memory, this book’s combination of national and thematic coverage offers a balanced understanding of the continent’s theatre and performance cultures. Employing a range of methodologies and critical approaches across its three parts and ninety-four chapters, this book’s first part contains a comprehensive listing of European nations, the second part charts responses to thematic complexes that define current European performance, and the third section gathers a series of case studies that explore the contribution of some of Europe’s foremost theatre makers. Rather than rehearsing rote knowledge, this is a collection of carefully curated, interpretive accounts from an international roster of scholars and practitioners. The Routledge Companion to Contemporary European Theatre and Performance gives undergraduate and graduate students as well as researchers and practitioners an indispensable reference resource that can be used broadly across curricula.

Book Albanian Authors in Search of a peculiar Drama Type

Download or read book Albanian Authors in Search of a peculiar Drama Type written by Gëzim Puka and published by Editions Universitaires Europeennes. This book was released on 2016-10-27 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of the Albanian modern drama has not a final act yet, the curtain has not fallen yet. So the words which are used to temporarily close this discourse should not be taken as a conclusion. The time hasn't come to put an end yet, neither to establish new norms. The moment has come to understand what has been done and to try to make a theoretical formulation. Our job as researchers was the new registration forms for the only reason that art history is not defined by ideas but by their realization into forms. The playwrights we mentioned have brought a new form in the Albanian drama. In remaking a new style possible it should have been resolved not only the crisis of the dramatic form but also that of the tradition. By reading these published and unpublished texts was observed how difficult and complicated it was to pass from reading to writing. Our study seeks to give a future to these works through interpretation, especially to the unpublished ones.

Book East Central Europe in Exile Volume 1

Download or read book East Central Europe in Exile Volume 1 written by Anna Mazurkiewicz and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2014-10-16 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The East Central Europe in Exile series consists of two volumes which contain chapters written by both esteemed and renowned scholars, as well as young, aspiring researchers whose work brings a fresh, innovative approach to the study of migration. Altogether, there are thirty-eight chapters in both volumes focusing on the East Central European émigré experience in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The first volume, Transatlantic Migrations, focuses on the reasons for emigration from the lands of East Central Europe; from the Baltic to the Adriatic, the intercontinental journey, as well as on the initial adaptation and assimilation processes. The second volume is slightly different in scope, for it focuses on the aspect of negotiating new identities acquired in the adopted homeland. The authors contributing to Transatlantic Identities focus on the preservation of the East Central European identity, maintenance of contacts with the “old country”, and activities pursued on behalf of, and for the sake of, the abandoned homeland. Combined, both volumes describe the transnational processes affecting East Central European migrants.
