This book presents the proceedings of the 32nd Medical Informatics Europe Conference (MIE2022), organized by the European Federation for Medical Informatics (EFMI) and held from 27 - 30 May 2022 in Nice, France. The theme of the conference was Challenges of Trustable AI and Added-Value on Health. Over 400 submissions were received from 43 countries, and were reviewed in a thorough process by at least three reviewers before being assessed by an SPC co-chair, with papers requiring major revision undergoing further review. Included here are 147 full papers (acceptance rate 54%), 23 short papers and 79 posters from the conference. Topics covered include the usual sub-domains of biomedical informatics: decision support and clinical information systems; clinical research informatics; knowledge management and representation; consumer health informatics; natural language processing; public health informatics; and privacy, ethical and societal aspects, but also innovative approaches to the collection, such as organization and analysis of data and knowledge related to health and wellbeing, as well as theoretical and applied contributions to AI methods and algorithms. Providing an overview of the latest developments in medical informatics, the book will be of interest to all those involved in the development and provision of healthcare today.

Yet in business and scientific contexts, judgments are expected to be based on a rational analysis rather than intuitions or emotions. Intuition is often seen as something mystical that should not be trusted and thus eliminated from human decision-making. Our empirical and theoretical research shows that this is impossible when people are dealing with people. Instead, intuitions and emotions have significant power in the decision-making process. Neuroscience even shows that humans are incapable of switching off their emotions or intuitions when making decisions. Therefore, intuition and emotions as evolutionary achievements of human beings should be looked at more closely to use the wisdom they offer. This book provides an insight into the current state of research on rational-analytical procedures in personnel selection and complements this with research on intuitions and emotions in personnel diagnostics. By integrating scientifically verifiable rational-analytical decision-making procedures with the inner experiential knowledge of people, this book bridges two complementary ways of recognizing and making good decisions. It demonstrates how intuitions are developed and used in different fields of practice and cultures and how scientific research results from rational-analytical and intuitive-emotional selection procedures are successfully integrated by practitioners.

While the turn towards governmental automated decision-making promises to reduce the impact of human biases and produce efficiency gains, reducing the human element in governmental decision-making also entails significant risks. This book analyses these risks through a comparative constitutional law and human rights lens, examining US law, German law, and international human rights law. It also highlights the structural challenges that automation poses for legal systems built on the assumption of exclusively human decision-making. Dazu gehört eine umfassende Diskussion über KI im Allgemeinen sowie die Darstellung aktueller Anwendungsbereiche von KI im Rechtsmarkt. Zusätzlich soll die Akzeptanz der Nutzung von KI aus der Perspektive von Rechtsanwendern und potenziellen Mandanten untersucht werden. Um diese Untersuchungsaspekte zu bearbeiten, wird eine Kombination aus Literaturrecherche und einer quantitativen Online-Befragung als methodischer Ansatz gewählt. Durch diese Vorgehensweise sollen relevante Informationen und Daten ermittelt werden. Ein besonderes Augenmerk liegt hierbei auf der Online-Befragung, die Aufschluss darüber geben soll, ob Technikaffinität, häufige Nutzung von KI im Alltag, die Sensibilität und der Gegenstandswert des Rechtsproblems Einfluss auf die Akzeptanz von KI haben.
