Book Airport Capacity Constraints and Strategies for Mitigation

Download or read book Airport Capacity Constraints and Strategies for Mitigation written by Marc C. Gelhausen and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2019-11-15 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When predicting the future of air traffic development, it is imperative for researchers and planners tohave the most accurate information about airport capacity constraints. Airport capacity constraintsand strategies for mitigation: A global perspective analyses airport capacity constraints with empiricalmethods that forecast future capacities and capacity shortfalls. The book discusses in detail the importance of airport capacity constraints on air traffic development, especially for international hubs, along with mitigation strategies for already congested airports. It analysesempirical data to provide greater insight into the problems of airport congestion and capacity shortage. The authors present detailed global traffic forecasts for the years 2030 and 2040, and mitigation strategiesfor overcoming the problem of limited airport capacity. As expanding current airports becomes increasingly difficult, and time consuming - especially for hubs- the study of current and future airport capacity constraints becomes ever more needed. This bookprovides detailed information about how to correctly assess and quantify the problem of limited airportcapacity, while offering strategies for overcoming these issues for a healthy global air traffic network.

Book Aviation Turbulence

Download or read book Aviation Turbulence written by Robert Sharman and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-06-27 with total page 529 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anyone who has experienced turbulence in flight knows that it is usually not pleasant, and may wonder why this is so difficult to avoid. The book includes papers by various aviation turbulence researchers and provides background into the nature and causes of atmospheric turbulence that affect aircraft motion, and contains surveys of the latest techniques for remote and in situ sensing and forecasting of the turbulence phenomenon. It provides updates on the state-of-the-art research since earlier studies in the 1960s on clear-air turbulence, explains recent new understanding into turbulence generation by thunderstorms, and summarizes future challenges in turbulence prediction and avoidance.

Book Applied Regression Analysis for Business

Download or read book Applied Regression Analysis for Business written by Jacek Welc and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-12-29 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers hands-on statistical tools for business professionals by focusing on the practical application of a single-equation regression. The authors discuss commonly applied econometric procedures, which are useful in building regression models for economic forecasting and supporting business decisions. A significant part of the book is devoted to traps and pitfalls in implementing regression analysis in real-world scenarios. The book consists of nine chapters, the final two of which are fully devoted to case studies. Today's business environment is characterised by a huge amount of economic data. Making successful business decisions under such data-abundant conditions requires objective analytical tools, which can help to identify and quantify multiple relationships between dozens of economic variables. Single-equation regression analysis, which is discussed in this book, is one such tool. The book offers a valuable guide and is relevant in various areas of economic and business analysis, including marketing, financial and operational management.

Book Improved Forecast Accuracy in Airline Revenue Management by Unconstraining Demand Estimates from Censored Data

Download or read book Improved Forecast Accuracy in Airline Revenue Management by Unconstraining Demand Estimates from Censored Data written by Richard H. Zeni and published by Universal-Publishers. This book was released on 2001 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Accurate forecasts are crucial to a revenue management system. Poor estimates of demand lead to inadequate inventory controls and sub-optimal revenue performance. Forecasting for airline revenue management systems is inherently difficult. Competitive actions, seasonal factors, the economic environment, and constant fare changes are a few of the hurdles that must be overcome. In addition, the fact that most of the historical demand data is censored further complicates the problem. This dissertation examines the challenge of forecasting for an airline revenue management system in the presence of censored demand data. This dissertation analyzed the improvement in forecast accuracy that results from estimating demand by unconstraining the censored data. Little research has been done on unconstraining censored data for revenue management systems. Airlines tend to either ignore the problem or use very simple ad hoc methods to deal with it. A literature review explores the current methods for unconstraining censored data. Also, practices borrowed from areas outside of revenue management are adapted to this application. For example, the Expectation-Maximization (EM) and other imputation methods were investigated. These methods are evaluated and tested using simulation and actual airline data. An extension to the EM algorithm that results in a 41% improvement in forecast accuracy is presented.
