Download or read book A Text Book of Ophthalmology Classic Reprint written by John W. Wright and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-09-16 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Text Book of Ophthalmology No apology can be necessary for the issuance of a work of this kind, when it is known that there is not a treatise that is particularly designed for the student in his class work in college, most works being intended for the skilled oculist. The arrangement of the subjects has been made in keeping with the needs of the student: first the anatomy and physiology of the eye, then the diseases and their treatment in such natural order, that the subject treated is designed to prepare him as well as possible at each recitation for that which follows. While this treatise is especially intended for the student in his class work at college, it is no less adaptable for him as a general practitioner, for what is necessary for the student to know and understand thoroughly, in reference to a knowledge of the anat emy, diagnosis and treatment of an affection of the eye, in the most concise and practical form, is equally suited to the general practitioner. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from System of Diseases of the Eye, Vol. 4: By American, British, Dutch, French, German, and Spanish Authors; Motor Apparatus, Cornea, Lens, Refraction, Medical Ophthalmology It is true that the experiment with the accidental image requires, on the patient's part, intelligence and ability to observe correctly, upon which we cannot always depend in practice. It is, however, in connection with an examination of the field of excursions and some other symptoms with which we shall become acquainted, a most welcome aid when an exact diagnosis without the collaboration of the other eye is to be made. Book Contributions to Ophthalmology Classic Reprint

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Contributions to Ophthalmology The safest, and therefore the best way to make the diagnosis in asthenopia is to record the data, as indicated in the six steps above, and to give the glass, or correction, which embodies the results of all the steps. As an extra precaution the observer should record the data of his ophthalmoscopic tests oofore he makes any glass tests. We have had a patient, a college student, come to our office wear ing minus elevens, which he had selected by the aid of an Optician as those with which he seemed to be able to see best, far and near, who turned out, after thorough saturation of his ciliary muscle with atropia, to be largely hypermetropic, so Titanic was his spasm of accommodation. We must not turn to'the fathers of ophthalmology in any spirit of abject submission to their dicta. We must show ourselves worthy of our parentage. We 'must cultivate-the same spirit of independent research which enabled them to do so much. They, by precept and example, bid us search for facts, and to use facts in a logical way. Book Medical Ophthalmology Classic Reprint

Download or read book Medical Ophthalmology Classic Reprint written by Robert Foster Moore and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2019-01-20 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Medical Ophthalmology IN the following pages an attempt has been made to give a concise account of those pathological conditions of the eyes and their connections which, for the most part, are of interest in general medical diseases. As regards my personal opinions and observations, they are in great measure the results of investigations carried out during the last nine years in the medical wards of St. Bartholomew's Hospital. The changes are chiefly considered under the heads of separate diseases; in Chapter I., however, I have collected together for separate consideration a heterogeneous group of important ophthalmological signs and symptoms without special reference to the diseases with which they are connected. The subsequent chapters are arranged to include systemic groups, Diseases of the Nervous System, Toxic Amblyopias, etc. The references have been placed at the foot of each page, and whilst this has resulted in a small amount of duplication, it was felt that this was justified by the readiness of access thus provided. An Index of Authors has been added in addition to the general Index. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book A Handy Book of Ophthalmic Surgery for the Use of Practitioners Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Handy Book of Ophthalmic Surgery for the Use of Practitioners Classic Reprint written by John Zachariah Laurence and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Handy-Book of Ophthalmic Surgery for the Use of Practitioners IN writing these pages it has been our aim to bring the principles and practice of Modern Ophthalmic Surgery within a small compass, to supply the wants of the busy practitioner, who may have neither time nor opportunity to read the innumerable contributions that Ophthalmic surgery and science have received within the last fifteen years. In describing symptoms, we have limited ourselves to those which are essential for the recognition of disease in describing operations, &c., to those details which are essential for its treatment. At present it matters little to the practitioner whether glaucoma depend on a hypersecretion of the fluids of the eye, or on a rheumatic state of the circulation, or on an obscure affection of the ciliary nerves, &c. What he chiefly wants is, how to know glaucoma and, when he knows it, how to treat it. We have not, however, thought it foreign to our scope to introduce occasionally a few representative cases, which serve to illustrate preceding descriptions. The practice we describe is that pursued at the Ophthalmic Hospital, Southwark, where 6000 patients are treated annually. Book The Ophthalmology of General Practice Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Ophthalmology of General Practice Classic Reprint written by Malcolm Langton Hepburn and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-11 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Ophthalmology of General Practice During the earlier part of my professional life I was engaged for several years in a busy general practice. Always interested in Ophthalmology, and with a certain amount of special training, I endeavoured to turn this knowledge to account, but was soon forced to realize my limitations in this respect. Unfortunately, the patient too often does not recognize such limitations, but expects his medical man to be an expert in all branches of medicine and surgery. In my difficulties I consulted various well-known textbooks on Ophthalmology, but in vain. They gave me excellent advice as to treatment in cases I was unable to diagnose; they appeared to me, in fact, to proceed on the assumption that I knew more than I really did, and, in order thoroughly to understand many parts of these works, a good deal of preliminary study was necessary, the time for which I could ill afford. I therefore reluctantly gave up treating diseases of the eye altogether. I do not defend that attitude. I am convinced, indeed, that the general practitioner can and ought to undertake treatment and give advice in many ophthalmic cases; and even when he does not profess to do so, he may occasionally find himself in a position in which he will be forced to express an opinion and initiate some line of treatment. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Text-Book of Ophthalmology Since the first edition of this book was published five German editions have been issued. Each of these has been characterized by the addition of important new matter and by the thorough revision of the old. This is particularly the case with the last or seventh edition, which, in addition to the merits of lucidity, judicious treatment of the subject, and excellence'of proportion and balance, that have always characterized Prof. Fuch's treatise, bears everywhere the marks of the most thorough revision, of additions and corrections, bringing the book up to date in all its parts, so that it presents an excellent summary of ophthalmological science as we know it to-day. Although alterations will be found on almost every page, the most marked changes will be met with in the sections on functional exam ination, the pathology of corneal and conjunctival diseases (especially the parts relating to ulcus serpens and diphtheria), and the diseases of the fundus. Drug characteristics are given because with their aid a much more successful prescription may be made. This book is small, the remedies comparatively few, because only reliable indications have been given. Quality has been preferred to quantity. To most of the remedies in our materia medica have there been attributed one or more eye symptoms but, as yet, without confirmation. To include these would but serve to confuse the reader and impair his confidence. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Therefore physiologic optics and de tailed descriptions of the anomalies of refraction and muscle balance and their treatment, Ophthalmoscopy, unusual and comparatively uncommon diseases of the eye, and most of the procedures of ophthalmic surgery are omitted. In the paragraphs on treatment a few operative methods are included because they may be regarded in a certain sense as emergency operations.
