This book was released on 2021-07-01 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Preamble Agricultural progress is normally regarded as a prerequisite of economic development. It is true that economic development in the modern times has come to be associated with industrialisation; nevertheless, it is generally accepted that industrialisation can follow only on the sound wheels of agriculture. As a matter of fact, if one goes by the available evidence, with the exception of Great Britain, industrial development in all presently developed countries proceeded on the basis of agricultural self-sufficiency and increase in agricultural productivity, made possible through State intervention in numerous ways such as subsidized farm inputs, free expertise and extension services, price guarantees and the provision of overheads in terms of credit, marketing and numerous social and civil amenities. In a developing economy, agriculture has to be given priority in order to accelerate the rate of economic progress. The agricultural labourers of several developing countries have peculiar characteristics that are common to most of the landless agricultural labourer of developing countries especially those with high population size. The plight of agricultural labourers is becoming increasingly deplorable in most developing countries. However in some countries the state intervened to protect the interest of agricultural labourers by adopting both restrictive and promotional measures while other governments have generally been lukewarm to their problems.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Selina’s Letter is inspired by true accounts and approaches the subject and stigma that is suicide. The book covers many true accounts and stories of self-murder in Victorian and Edwardian London, including a detailed biography of a Victorian London woman, Selina Aylott (1853 – 1909), who took her own life in a dramatic way. This anthology of true stories includes many dramatic firsts, including the first suicide ever recorded on the London Underground and Tower Bridge. So many stories, last letters and so many reasons why the many unfortunate lives depicted here in decided to end all. Sometimes during a mad thoughtless decision and at other times as a last heart-breaking choice. Selina’s Letter is a journey of human emotion and remembers all those not strong enough to live on, the book is beautifully illustrated, poignant and very touching.

Download or read book Rural Conflict Crime and Protest written by Timothy Shakesheff and published by Boydell Press. This book was released on 2003 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evidence from the west of England balances that already available from the eastern regions of England. Rural Conflict, Crime and Protest makes a major contribution to the historiography of nineteenth century crime. The work presents a new analysis of several important and controversial themes: the concept of social crime, petty crime and protest in the English countryside between 1800 and 1860. The bulk of the research into rural crime has traditionally emanated from East Anglia, the south and the east; however, the bulk of the evidence for this bookhas come from Herefordshire, in the west of England, adding to the historiography of nineteenth century rural crime. Based upon a rich vein of primary source material and liberally interspersed with court room revelations and newspaper reports this work is both informative and scholarly and would make a useful addition to the bookshelves of academics and students alike, without excluding the casual reader. TIMOTHY SHAKESHEFF is lecturer in modern British social history at the University College, Worcester.
