Book excerpt: She’s Gone collects the true stories of five different women living in different decades who all have one thing in common: one moment they were busy living their lives and the next moment … they were gone. From the 1910 disappearance of New York heiress Dorothy Arnold to the 1977 vanishing of teenager Simone Ridinger, author Brunelle details both famous and lesser-known cases that remain unsolved. Board a luxury liner with Agnes Tufverson as she embarks on a European honeymoon before her mysterious 1933 disappearance over the Atlantic; follow Jean Spangler to a famous 1940s Hollywood nightclub as she arrives for a clandestine meeting in a private booth. Due to a strong belief that good girls didn’t disappear, when authorities and family members were presented with missing women in the twentieth century, it was often assumed that they had simply ran away. Most investigations were funded by family members, and when women were found to be the victims of violent crime, they were faulted for placing themselves in dangerous situations. On the rare occasions when authorities investigated cases, they relied on interviews and cash trails in combination with rudimentary forensics such as blood typing and fingerprinting to find missing persons. For those reasons, many of the real stories from this time period have yet to be told. Featuring never-before-seen letters and documents, personal interviews, and genealogical research alongside captivating storytelling, Brunelle delves deep into the lives of those who disappeared and the circumstances surrounding their disappearances. ,

Book excerpt: Middy was adopted by Tim Adams and Mary Simpson. They had just known each other for two days and were driving from St. Louis, headed west when Tim’s Volkswagen stopped on the interstate. They were found by a man in a pickup truck. He was desperate and, on his way, to find a doctor as his sister was in labor. He asked for their help and Tim and Mary agreed to help this stranger and soon found themselves in an old farmhouse. The lady was lying on the floor and moaning with pain. It was apparent that she was mentally ill as well. The baby was breech and Mary had no medical knowledge or experience. But after praying and asking God to help her, she was able to deliver this baby girl. The mother did not survive and her brother did not want to raise the child but wanted Tim and Mary to adopt her. Tim and Mary did marry as they felt this little girl was meant to be their child. It took several days to meet the requirements to qualify for the adoption, but it all worked out for the newlywed couple and their little girl, Middy. After Middy learned that she had been adopted, she wanted to find her biological father. Her adoptive parents had told her about her birth, their involvement and her mother not surviving. The items in an old shoebox given to her by her uncle helped her to start her journey to find her father and learn more about her mother. Middy Adams became a very famous singer and loved being able to share her God given talent with others. This story is a sequel to the novel, “The Shoebox” and continues to follow the life of Middy Adams and the many challenges for her and her best friend, Patsy Holt.

Book excerpt: Set in the fictional subdivision of Galapagoes Estates," Rattled is a very funny look at what happens when soccer moms, animal rights activists, dishonest real estate developers and, of course, rattlesnakes get together and fight for ascendancy in the rapidly developing New Jersey suburbs. Heather Peters is anxious to move to the newly minted development. All she wants there is a nice house. Well, a nice house and a nice piece of land. And of course a basement gym, a master bath with radiant heat, Jacuzzi and his-and-her toilets. She could make do without a media room if she had to. After all, the pioneers hadn't had plasma TV, and they'd survived. Heather is not your average suburban housewife—or maybe she is. Her fortuitous meeting with a endangered species of rattlesnake sets this first novel in motion. You may find yourself feeling sorry for the snake.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the #1 internationally bestselling author of Five Days and The Blue Hour comes an unforgettable novel about a woman who seemingly has it all, until the man she trusted the most threatens to take it all away. About an hour after I met Tony Hobbs, he saved my life. Thirty-seven-year-old American journalist Sally Goodchild quite literally married her hero. Both foreign correspondents, both on assignment in Cairo, they quickly fell in love and settled into domestic life in London. From the outset, Sally’s relationship with both Tony and his hometown was an uneasy one—as she found both to be far more unfamiliar than imagined. But her adjustment problems are soon overshadowed by a troubled pregnancy. When she goes into premature labor, there are doubts whether her child will survive unscathed. And then, out of nowhere, Sally is hit by an appalling postpartum depression—a descent into a temporary, but very personal hell, which even sees her articulating a homicidal thought against her baby. However, when she does manage to extricate herself from this desperate state, she finds herself in a fresh new nightmare, as she discovers that the man she thought knew her better than anyone—loved her more than anyone—now considers her an unfit mother and wants to bar her from ever seeing her child again.
