Predominately known as a poet, Williams frequently pushed the limits of prose style throughout his works, often comprised of a seamless blend of both forms of writing. In Spring and All, the closest thing to a manifesto he wrote, Williams addresses the nature of his modern poetics which not only pursues a particularly American idiom, but attempts to capture the relationship between language and the world it describes. Part essay, part poem, Spring and All is a landmark of American literature from a poet whose daring search for the outer limits of life both redefined and expanded the meaning of language itself. “There is a constant barrier between the reader and his consciousness of immediate contact with the world. If there is an ocean it is here.” In Spring and All, Williams identifies the incomprehensible nature of consciousness as the single most important subject of poetry. Accused of being “heartless” and “cruel,” of producing “positively repellant” works of art in order to “make fun of humanity,” Williams doesn’t so much defend himself as dig in his heels. His poetry is addressed “[t]o the imagination” itself; it seeks to break down the “the barrier between sense and the vaporous fringe which distracts the attention from its agonized approaches to the moment.” When he states that “so much depends / upon // a red wheel / barrow,” he refers to the need to understand the nature of language, which keeps us in touch with the world. With a beautifully designed cover and professionally typeset manuscript, this edition of William Carlos Williams’ Spring and All is a classic of American literature reimagined for modern readers.

Until now, it's been the best-kept secret for promoting and maintaining health and vitality. The use of natural mineral spring water for the prevention and cure of disease dates back 5000 years to the Bronze Age. Hot springs reached their heyday in the United States in the latter part of the 19th century and were well attended until the early 1940s. Balneotherapy--using natural mineral spring water for the prevention and cure of disease--continued to thrive elsewhere in the world and is making a big comeback in the United States. It is an accepted form of mainstream medicine in Europe and Japan, where an abundance of medical evidence shows that in addition to relieving stress, certain mineral waters can help the body heal itself from heart, liver, and kidney problems, skin diseases, asthma, digestive disorders, arthritis, and a host of other health problems.

Book The Springs of Steamboat Healing Waters Mysterious Caves and Sparkling Soda

Download or read book The Springs of Steamboat Healing Waters Mysterious Caves and Sparkling Soda written by Dagny McKinley and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2013-03-05 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Steamboat Springs is world renowned for the ski mountain that overshadows the town, but it was the multitude of springs that drew Ute Indians and then the first white settlers to this valley. John Crawford, Steamboat's founder, envisioned a town where people traveled from around the world to take part in the healing properties of the waters. The various springs were believed to cure everything from rheumatism, gout and dyspepsia to virulent blood disorders and skin diseases. While some springs have disappeared and others were sacrificed in the name of progress, many--including Old Town Hot Springs and Strawberry Park Hot Springs--still beckon visitors to bask in their sparkling waters.

Download or read book The Springs of Florida written by Doug Stamm and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2023-09-08 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A rare collection of photographs that are the heart of The Springs of Florida was obtained over a period of many years. They are the result of hundreds of hours underwater, during both day and night, and in all seasons of the year. The many realms of fresh water that most often surround us are dark rivers, clouded ponds and the opaque depths of inland lakes. We cannot see into them or fathom the incessant activities of life that occurs throughout their depths. The many springs that jewel the landscape of Florida are ornate exceptions to an environment often veiled in obscurity. They are translucent openings to a dominion very rare: a crystalline and vibrant world of flowing fresh water that rises from the earth and reaches to the sea. Now in its fourth edition, The Springs of Florida brings updated research and discussion to readers interested not only in the ecosystem and environment, but also in preserving the springs and the creatures that reside there. Doug Stamm, prominent voice in the Florida springs community and professional diver/underwater photographer, aims to increase awareness about springs conservation as well as bring new updates to light in his text. With a combination of legacy and new photos throughout the book, readers will see first-hand how beautiful the springs are and learn why conservation efforts are needed now more than ever.

Book The Art of Finding Springs 2nd Edition

Download or read book The Art of Finding Springs 2nd Edition written by Abbé Paramelle and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 2019-05-16 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abbé Paramelle (1790-1875) published The Art of Finding Springs in 1856 as a how-to manual for finding groundwater. Paramelle began his field research into springs on a karst plateau in southwestern France. Between 1833 and 1854, upon request, Paramelle explored 40 of France's departments and found groundwater in 10,000 places based on his observational method, which used geology and geomorphology, at a time when these sciences were in their infancy. Paramelle's method was used until the 1970s to find groundwater in the French Department of Lot. Although the book was translated into German and Spanish in the mid-1800s, this is the first English translation. The translator has included detailed notes and an introduction providing extensive historical background about this largely unknown hydrogeologist.
