Book Modern Afaan Oromo Grammar

Download or read book Modern Afaan Oromo Grammar written by Taha M. Roba and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2017-03-16 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication is the second edition of the Oromo Textbook. It is designed to teach the Oromo language to those who can speak the language but are unable to read it; for those children who were born and live outside their homeland; and for those who are interested in learning one of the major languages of Africa. The Oromo language is spoken by close to 40 million people in Ethiopia and northern Kenya and is the second or third largest language in Africa. It is a testament to the resilience of the Oromo language and how it survived over a century of Abyssinian onslaught and suppression. By reading this handbook one can grasp aspects of Oromo culture, systems of thought the principle of social organization and the art of communication. Rare among Oromo educational material, this volume reads smoothly; from learning the sounds of Oromo alphabets also known as qubee, to reading, and understanding the Oromo language. This work is distinct because it brings out the Oromo oral tradition. It is loaded with specific ways Oromos learned, thought, and preserved their language and culture, the essence of their Orommumma (Oromomness). This book strives to fill the void of Oromo educational material not only in North- America, but also in Oromia (Ethiopia), where teaching and learning the Oromo language outlawed by successive Ethiopian regimes and not sufficiently developed under the current government. This book will undoubtedly emerge as a conversation and discussion piece in the learning and teaching of the Oromo language, Oromo history and tradition of the Oromo people.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Oromo people are one of the most numerous in Africa. Census data are not reliable but there are probably twenty million people whose first language is Oromo and who recognize themselves as Oromo. In the older literature they are often called Galla. Except for a relatively small number of arid land pastoralists who live in Kenya, all homelands lie in Ethiopia, where they probably make up around 40 percent of the total population. Geographically their territories, though they are not always contiguous, extend from the highlands of Ethiopia in the north, to the Ogaden and Somalia in the east, to the Sudan border in the west, and across the Kenyan border to the Tana River in the south.Though different Oromo groups vary considerably in their modes of subsistence and in their local organizations, they share similar cultures and ways of thought.

Download or read book Hidhaa Seexaa I written by Ibsaa Guutama and published by eBookIt.com. This book was released on 2021 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This was first published in English as "Prison of Conscience". It is now presented in Afaan Oromo with some addition and expansion. For the Oromo nation the more than a hundred years of Amaaraa Ethiopian occupation had been a hell. Killings, tortures and disappearances were common place. Their land was grabbed, their culture erased, their language suppressed, they were turned to serfs and their identity was denied, their freedom deprived. Relentless struggle was waged to reverse the situation and much had been achieved towards it. This book is about experience of a prisoner who went under the most inhuman treatment in torture rooms and isolated from the world for about ten years. And also, about empire Ethiopia that knows no human rights and even human conscience was kept under suppression. All about the empire and Darg prison are contained in two volumes of this book in brief. The said prisoner had a chance to revisit Maa'ikalaawii under EPRDF government that replaced the Darg. List of prisoners of the previous detention is also given as appendix. Read it and there are more to discover. Book Territorial Conquest Central Power and Local Autonomy in Ethiopia 1880s 1941

Download or read book Territorial Conquest Central Power and Local Autonomy in Ethiopia 1880s 1941 written by Etana Habte and published by Flipside Digital Content Company Inc.. This book was released on 2011-07-10 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Territorial Conquest, Central Power and Local Autonomy in Ethiopia is made up of two articles:The first, "e;Adwa Victory, Menilek's Power and Local Autonomy in Wallagga Territory of Ethiopia: The Case of Leeqaa-Naqamtee and Leeqaa-Qellem (1896-1941),"e; analyzes the aftermath of the Battle of Adwa in the Macca Oromo territory of Wallagga with emphasis on issues of local autonomy in Leeqaa-Naqamtee and Leeqaa-Qellem vis-a-vis central power. This article challenges the views in the mainstream Ethiopian historiography that magnifies only one side of Adwa Victory. The second, "e;Integration and Resistance in the Ethiopian Empire State: The Case of Qellem (1886-1941),"e; attempts to analyze Addis Ababa-Qellem relations in the context of center-periphery theory. As a coffee-producing province at the extreme western border of the country, Qellem experienced series of politico-military pressures from the central government in Addis Ababa. Studies conducted so far by some Ethiopian and expatriate scholars argue that Qellem was totally integrated into the empire through its peaceful submission. However, the events during the Italian Occupation of Ethiopia (1935-1941) proved quite to the contrary. This work presents a critical appraisal of the interplay with emphasis on issues of integration and resistance.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1987, this thesaurus is concerned with the spoken languages of Africa. Languages are grouped into a relatively large number of sets and subsets within which the relationship of languages to one another is locally apparent and uncontroversial. The volume presents the languages in classified order with notes on each language, their variant names and immediate classification, and reference to the sources consulted. One section offers an exhaustive list of the languages spoken as home languages by local communities in each state, together with details of languages widely used for inter-group communication, given official recognition, or used in education or the media. There are brief phonological analyses of a broad sample of some 20 African languages and a comprehensive bibliography and language index to the whole work
