Book Interpreting Aerial Photographs to Identify Natural Hazards

Download or read book Interpreting Aerial Photographs to Identify Natural Hazards written by Charles E. Glass and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-08-14 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Authored by a world-renowned aerial photography and remote sensing expert, Geographic Aerial Photography: Identifying Earth-Surface Hazards Through Image Interpretation is the most practical and authoritative reference available for any professional or student looking for a reference on how to recognize, analyze, interpret and avoid – or successfully plan for – dangerous contingencies. Whether they are related to natural terrain, geology, vegetation, hydrology or land use patterns – it's critical for you to be able to recognize dangerous conditions when and where they exist. Failure to adequately recognize and characterize geomorphic, geologic, and hydrologic dangers on the ground using aerial photography is one of the major factors contributing to due to natural hazards and disasters, damage to architectural structures, and often the subsequent loss of human life as a result. Aerial photographs provide one of the most prevalent, inexpensive and under-utilized tools to those with the knowledge and expertise to interpret them. - Authored by one of the world's experts in aerial photography and remote sensing, with more than 35 years of experience in research and instruction - Features more than 100 color photographs to vividly explore the fundamental principles of aerial photography - Chapter tables underscore key concepts including channel size and shape characteristics, image scales, reverse fault values, and strike-slip fault systems

Book Study of the Use of Aerial and Satellite Photogrammetry Fro Surveys in Hydrology

Download or read book Study of the Use of Aerial and Satellite Photogrammetry Fro Surveys in Hydrology written by Everett H. Ramey and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The use of aerial photogrammetry and other related sensors to some other problems in hydrology are considered. Here it seems that such remote sensing from aircraft offers the hydrologist a feasible means to map some special events where detailed mapping is needed.

Book Wetlands

    Book Details:
  • Author : Committee on Characterization of Wetlands
  • Publisher : National Academies Press
  • Release : 1995-09-20
  • ISBN : 0309587220
  • Pages : 329 pages

Download or read book Wetlands written by Committee on Characterization of Wetlands and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1995-09-20 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Wetlands" has become a hot word in the current environmental debate. But what does it signify? In 1991, proposed changes in the legal definities of wetlands stirred controversy and focused attention on the scientific and economic aspects of their management. This volume explores how to define wetlands. The committee--whose members were drawn from academia, government, business, and the environmental community--builds a rational, scientific basis for delineating wetlands in the landscape and offers recommendations for further action. Wetlands also discusses the diverse hydrological and ecological functions of wetlands, and makes recommendations concerning so-called controversial areas such as permafrost wetlands, riparian ecosystems, irregularly flooded sites, and agricultural wetlands. It presents criteria for identifying wetlands and explores the problems of applying those criteria when there are seasonal changes in water levels. This comprehensive and practical volume will be of interest to environmental scientists and advocates, hydrologists, policymakers, regulators, faculty, researchers, and students of environmental studies.

Book Aerial Photographic Method for Studying Ground Water

Download or read book Aerial Photographic Method for Studying Ground Water written by G. E. Meer and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper presents a general review of the use of the aerial photographic method in the search for ground water in various parts of the Soviet Union. The individual indicators of the presence of ground water shown on aerial photographs are individually discussed; these include such features as vegetation, relief, culture features and many others. The article discusses the most useful scales of photography, cameras, light filters, aircraft, proper season for conducting the work, most suitable weather and best time of day. Specific work in this field is discussed, particularly that done in Turkmenia and the Caspian Lowland, but this is also contrasted with work done in other landscape regions of the country. The various criteria used in different regions of the USSR are listed. Specific aspects of the field work which supplements aerial photography are in some detail. The significant role of the geobotanical method is discussed, followed by some comments on the preparation of interpretation keys and photomosaics and the role played by black and white and color prints. Book Determination of Land Use from Satellite Imagery for Input to Hydrologic Models

Download or read book Determination of Land Use from Satellite Imagery for Input to Hydrologic Models written by Robert P. Webb and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A land use/land cover identification methodology using LANDSAT imagery has been applied to six watersheds across the U.S. The land use information is stored in a grid cell data bank and is the basis for calibration of hydrologic parameters for watershed models. Flood frequency studies have been completed on four of the watersheds with land use derived from both satellite data and conventional low altitude aerial photography. This paper discusses our experience using the LANDSAT land use classification procedure and compares hydrologic results obtained from the alternative determinations of land use. (Author).
