Book Sensory Science Applications for Food Production

Download or read book Sensory Science Applications for Food Production written by Mehra, Rahul and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2024-07-17 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the critical role of sensory science in ensuring food quality and safety, there needs to be more comprehensive educational resources that cover the breadth and depth of this field. Current literature often focuses on isolated aspects, leaving scholars and practitioners needing a unified reference for understanding the complex interplay of sensory organs, evaluation techniques, and technological advancements. This gap hinders the development of skilled sensory panelists and restricts innovation in food product development and quality control. Sensory Science Applications for Food Production bridges this gap by offering a comprehensive and cohesive overview of sensory science. Through its meticulously crafted chapters, the book thoroughly explores sensory organs, including Gustation, Olfaction, Vision, Sense of touch, and Auditory Perception. It elucidates the mechanisms behind sensory perception, examines abnormalities, and discusses factors influencing perception, all crucial for training proficient sensory panelists. The book also delves into advanced sensory evaluation techniques, including their application in developing innovative food products, addressing the need for up-to-date knowledge in the field.

Book Advances in Low Level Color Image Processing

Download or read book Advances in Low Level Color Image Processing written by M. Emre Celebi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-17 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Color perception plays an important role in object recognition and scene understanding both for humans and intelligent vision systems. Recent advances in digital color imaging and computer hardware technology have led to an explosion in the use of color images in a variety of applications including medical imaging, content-based image retrieval, biometrics, watermarking, digital inpainting, remote sensing, visual quality inspection, among many others. As a result, automated processing and analysis of color images has become an active area of research, to which the large number of publications of the past two decades bears witness. The multivariate nature of color image data presents new challenges for researchers and practitioners as the numerous methods developed for single channel images are often not directly applicable to multichannel ones. The goal of this volume is to summarize the state-of-the-art in the early stages of the color image processing pipeline.

Book Image Quality Assessment of Computer generated Images

Download or read book Image Quality Assessment of Computer generated Images written by André Bigand and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-03-09 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Image Quality Assessment is well-known for measuring the perceived image degradation of natural scene images but is still an emerging topic for computer-generated images. This book addresses this problem and presents recent advances based on soft computing. It is aimed at students, practitioners and researchers in the field of image processing and related areas such as computer graphics and visualization. In this book, we first clarify the differences between natural scene images and computer-generated images, and address the problem of Image Quality Assessment (IQA) by focusing on the visual perception of noise. Rather than using known perceptual models, we first investigate the use of soft computing approaches, classically used in Artificial Intelligence, as full-reference and reduced-reference metrics. Thus, by creating Learning Machines, such as SVMs and RVMs, we can assess the perceptual quality of a computer-generated image. We also investigate the use of interval-valued fuzzy sets as a no-reference metric. These approaches are treated both theoretically and practically, for the complete process of IQA. The learning step is performed using a database built from experiments with human users and the resulting models can be used for any image computed with a stochastic rendering algorithm. This can be useful for detecting the visual convergence of the different parts of an image during the rendering process, and thus to optimize the computation. These models can also be extended to other applications that handle complex models, in the fields of signal processing and image processing.

Download or read book Rendering Techniques 2001 written by S.J. Gortler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the proceedings of the lih Eurographics Workshop on Rendering, th which took place from the 25 to the 27th of June, 2001, in London, United Kingdom. Over the past 11 years, the workshop has become the premier forum dedicated to research in rendering. Much of the work in rendering now appearing in other conferences and journals builds on ideas originally presented at the workshop. This year we received a total of 74 submissions. Each paper was carefully reviewed by two of the 28 international programme committee members, as well as external reviewers, selected by the co-chairs from a pool of 125 individuals. In this review process, all submissions and reviews were handled electronically, with the exception of videos submitted with a few of the papers. The overall quality of the submissions was exceptionally high. Space and time constraints forced the committee to make some difficult decisions. In the end, 29 by papers were accepted, and they appear here. Almost all papers are accompanied color images, which appear at the end of the book. The papers treat the following varied topics: methods for local and global illumination, techniques for acquisition and modeling from images, image-based rendering, new image representations, hardware assisted methods, shadow algorithms, visibility, perception, texturing, and filtering. Each year, in addition to the reviewed contributions, the workshop includes invited presentations from internationally recognized experts.

In order to meet high standard of Springer ́s Advances in Intelligent and Soft Computing ,the organization committee has made their efforts to do the following things. Firstly, poor quality paper has been refused after reviewing course by anonymous referee experts. Secondly, periodically review meetings have been held around the reviewers about five times for exchanging reviewing suggestions. Finally, the conference organization had several preliminary sessions before the conference. Through efforts of different people and departments, the conference will be successful and fruitful. We hope that you can get much more knowledges from our CSISE2011, and we also hope that you can give us good suggestions to improve our work in the future.
