Book Advanced Models for Project Management

Download or read book Advanced Models for Project Management written by L. Valadares Tavares and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1999 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of project management has developed over the past 40 years; however, the recent increase in computer power has greatly accelerated its theoretical and computational developments. Advanced Models for Project Management is an expository treatment of the recent developments in project modeling. These advances and their treatment in the book are as follows: Chapters 2 and 3 broaden the concept of precedence and the description of activities to produce a wide range of realistic representation of projects. Chapters 4 and 5 explore the stochastic study of project features through several analytical and numerical models - using simulation and risk analysis - which provide experimental and forecasting analyses. Chapter 6 examines the allocation of resources in complex situations and restrictions, and also studies the financial aspects of projects and optimization of financial elements. Chapter 7 assesses and evaluates projects within the framework of multi-criteria decision theory. Chapter 8 concludes with an analysis of new models based on synthetic indicators, helping the operations manager select the most convenient solutions. Hence, the book provides a number of original advances, including: an assessment of the complexity and hardness of a project network; a description of the network's morphology; a new approach to simulate project networks; development of models based on continuous variables to optimize project schedules; and the development of a three-dimension model (MACMODEL) to assess and to evaluate projects and a new synthetic indicator to support the process of scheduling. Finally, several software products are presented that help the project manager to use new tools such as RISKNET and MACMODEL.

Book Managing Complex High Risk Projects

Download or read book Managing Complex High Risk Projects written by Franck Marle and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-12-18 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Maximizing reader insights into project management and handling complexity-driven risks, this book explores propagation effects, non-linear consequences, loops, and the emergence of positive properties that may occur over the course of a project. This book presents an introduction to project management and analysis of traditional project management approaches and their limits regarding complexity. It also includes overviews of recent research works about project complexity modelling and management as well as project complexity-driven issues. Moreover, the authors propose their own new approaches, new methodologies and new tools which may be used by project managers and/or researchers and/or students in the management of their projects. These new elements include project complexity definitions and frameworks, multi-criteria approaches for project complexity measurement, advanced methodologies for project management (propagation studies to anticipate potential behaviour of the project, and clustering approaches to improve coordination between project actors) and industrial case studies (automotive industry, civil engineering, railroad industry, performing arts,...) and exercises (with their solutions) which will allow readers to improve and strengthen their knowledge and skills in the management of complex and (thus) risky projects.

Download or read book Advanced Project Management written by F. L. Harrison and published by Halsted Press. This book was released on 1992-10-27 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When this book first appeared in 1981 it quickly acquired a reputation for excellence on both sides of the Atlantic. For this third edition the text has been radically revised and the author presents a new approach designed to be used as a framework for the total integration of project management work. According to Mr Harrison, the elements that determine the success or failure of a project are the structure of the project organization, the methodology used for planning and control, how human relations problems and conflicts are managed, and the effectiveness of integration. The author deals in depth with all these topics. He explains how using modern project techniques can save time and money, analyses relevant forms of organization and discusses estimating, budgeting, cost control and performance analysis and the importance of the 'people' dimension. This is a book that successfully bridges the gap between introductory texts on project management and specialist works on professional practice. Its aim is twofold: to provide both a guide for managers, engineers, accountants and others involved in project work and a textbook for advanced students of project and construction management.
