Book The Rubato Composer Music Software

Download or read book The Rubato Composer Music Software written by Gérard Milmeister and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-04-05 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Both modern mathematical music theory and computer science are strongly influenced by the theory of categories and functors. One outcome of this research is the data format of denotators, which is based on set-valued presheaves over the category of modules and diaffine homomorphisms. The functorial approach of denotators deals with generalized points in the form of arrows and allows the construction of a universal concept architecture. This architecture is ideal for handling all aspects of music, especially for the analysis and composition of highly abstract musical works. This book presents an introduction to the theory of module categories and the theory of denotators, as well as the design of a software system, called Rubato Composer, which is an implementation of the category-theoretic concept framework. The application is written in portable Java and relies on plug-in components, so-called rubettes, which may be combined in data flow networks for the generation and manipulation of denotators. The Rubato Composer system is open to arbitrary extension and is freely available under the GPL license. It allows the developer to build specialized rubettes for tasks that are of interest to composers, who in turn combine them to create music. It equally serves music theorists, who use them to extract information from and manipulate musical structures. They may even develop new theories by experimenting with the many parameters that are at their disposal thanks to the increased flexibility of the functorial concept architecture. Two contributed chapters by Guerino Mazzola and Florian Thalmann illustrate the application of the theory as well as the software in the development of compositional tools and the creation of a musical work with the help of the Rubato framework.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has never been easier or more fun for students to compose, improvise, arrange, and produce music and music-related projects than with today's technology. Written in a practical, accessible manner, Using Technology to Unlock Musical Creativity offers both a framework for and practical tips on the technology tools best suited for encouraging students' authentic musical creativity. Author Scott Watson makes a compelling case for creativity-based music learning through eight teacher-tested principles that access, nurture, and develop students' potential for musical expression. Example after example illustrates each principle in a variety of music teaching and technology scenarios. Watson also includes practical ideas for technology-based creative music activities, locating lesson plans and other resources, and assessing creative work. The book provides detailed plans for dozens of attractive projects, each linked to MENC National Standards, and also offers suggestions for making adaptations according to grade level and technology proficiency. Additionally, it includes a valuable section of resources with tips for setting up a computer music workstation, a plain-language description of how digital audio works, and a music education technology glossary. Most of the activities described can be carried out by novice users with free or low-cost music applications. The book also features a comprehensive companion website with dozens of audio and video examples as well as many downloadable worksheets, rubrics, and activity files. Book Microphone Techniques in Stereo and Surround Recording

Download or read book Microphone Techniques in Stereo and Surround Recording written by Adam Rosińsk and published by Wydawnictwo UJ. This book was released on 2022-11-22 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sound engineering is one of the fastest-growing branches of music production. The need for a broad-based discussion on the issues constituting the art of sound engineering persists and loses none of its relevance, revealing that sound engineering should not be investigated only in the mathematical and physical context (musical acoustics) or the engineering aspect (signal processing and modification). Publications targeted primarily at musicians are few and far between, which is why the mutual understanding for different priorities which effectively concern the same issues faced by the engineer, the acoustician and the musician, seems to be a complex problem and the main concept explored in this publication. This book is intended for musicians or sound directors, but also acousticians and sound engineers wishing to learn how the musicians think. The monograph is also addressed to musicians who intend to record their material in the studio in the near future, but do not possess knowledge on studio construction, studio workflow or the art of recording. It seems important to familiarize the musicians with the reality that awaits them on the other side of the glass, thus fostering their responsibility for the work jointly produced by them – entering the studio – and the sound director.
