Book Advanced Hybrid Propulsion System Control Program

Download or read book Advanced Hybrid Propulsion System Control Program written by Craig B. Kunkle and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Future advanced propulsion systems require improved control systems for the achievement of maximum overall weapon system effectiveness. Additional closed-loop control and flight-sensitive limiting functions are required to provide the necessary fuel economy and improved system response. The Advanced Hybrid Propulsion System Control Program has provided data necessary to achieve these requirements. The work accomplished during the program is presented. The performance requirements for an advanced turbopropulsion system were determined, and a control system to meet these requirements established. A comparison of fluidic, electronic, and hydromechanical technologies was made. A breadboard hybrid control system was designed, fabricated, and tested to demonstrate an approach for combining the three technologies. Bench tests at 1200 F environmental temperatures and engine evaluation tests were conducted and the results presented.

Book Hybrid Propulsion System for an Advanced Rocket powered Target Missile

Download or read book Hybrid Propulsion System for an Advanced Rocket powered Target Missile written by Richard A. Jones and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A demonstration program has been completed to determine the feasibility of a low-cost hybrid propulsion system for an advanced rocket-powered target vehicle. During a 21-month program a flightweight hybrid propulsion system was designed, fabricated, and successfully tested in numerous static firings at ambient conditions, temperature extremes of -65 F to +165 F and at altitude conditions in the AFRPL altitude facility. The final system design demonstrated step-thrust operation over an 8:1 thrust range which was provided on-command from boost thrust to sustain thrust. The sustain thrust level is selected prior to system firing by setting a flow control valve which provides 'dial-a-thrust' flexibility. The final phase of the program involved flight tests with a target vehicle airframe which demonstrated the hybrid propulsion system capability to provide command step-thrust operation, powered flight times approaching 5 min, and reliable operation following aircraft launch at 49,000 ft, Mach 1.5. Book Commercial Aircraft Propulsion and Energy Systems Research

Download or read book Commercial Aircraft Propulsion and Energy Systems Research written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2016-08-09 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary human activities that release carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere are the combustion of fossil fuels (coal, natural gas, and oil) to generate electricity, the provision of energy for transportation, and as a consequence of some industrial processes. Although aviation CO2 emissions only make up approximately 2.0 to 2.5 percent of total global annual CO2 emissions, research to reduce CO2 emissions is urgent because (1) such reductions may be legislated even as commercial air travel grows, (2) because it takes new technology a long time to propagate into and through the aviation fleet, and (3) because of the ongoing impact of global CO2 emissions. Commercial Aircraft Propulsion and Energy Systems Research develops a national research agenda for reducing CO2 emissions from commercial aviation. This report focuses on propulsion and energy technologies for reducing carbon emissions from large, commercial aircraftâ€" single-aisle and twin-aisle aircraft that carry 100 or more passengersâ€"because such aircraft account for more than 90 percent of global emissions from commercial aircraft. Moreover, while smaller aircraft also emit CO2, they make only a minor contribution to global emissions, and many technologies that reduce CO2 emissions for large aircraft also apply to smaller aircraft. As commercial aviation continues to grow in terms of revenue-passenger miles and cargo ton miles, CO2 emissions are expected to increase. To reduce the contribution of aviation to climate change, it is essential to improve the effectiveness of ongoing efforts to reduce emissions and initiate research into new approaches.

Book Hybrid Propulsion Technology Program Phase 1

Download or read book Hybrid Propulsion Technology Program Phase 1 written by National Aeronautics and Space Adm Nasa and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2019 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A number of booster propulsion system concepts are being considered for the next generation of manned and unmanned space launch vehicles. The one propulsion system concept that has potential for reducing costs with increased safety, reliability, and performance is hybrid propulsion (HP). A HP system may be thought of as a liquid propulsion system with solid fuel or a solid propulsion system with a liquid oxidizer. The liquid propulsion features that are most attractive are the higher specific impulse, clean exhaust, separated propellants, and oxidizer loading just prior to launch. The most attractive solid propulsion features includes low life cycle costs, no rotating machinery, compact size, and a robust case. In addition, a HP system has a robust LO2 tank; provides thrust control for ignition, to alleviate flight loads, and for thrust termination; and uses an inert grain that is not sensitive to anomalies such as cracks, voids, and separations. The object is to develop the technology to enable the application of HP to manned and unmanned space launch vehicles. This program will identify the necessary technology, acquire that technology, and demonstrate that technology. This volume is the executive summary. Schuler, A. L. and Wiley, D. R. Book Vehicle Propulsion Systems

Download or read book Vehicle Propulsion Systems written by L. Guzzella and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Automobiles are responsible for a substantial part of the world's consumption of primary energy, mostly fossil liquid hydrocarbons. The reduction of the fuel consumption of these vehicles has become a top priority. Many ideas to reach that objective have been presented. In most cases these systems are more complex than the traditional approaches. For such complex systems a heuristic design approach fails. The only way to deal with this situation is to employ model-based methods. This text provides an introduction to the mathematical modeling and subsequent optimization of vehicle propulsion systems and their supervisory control algorithms.
