Book Aircraft Engine Design

Download or read book Aircraft Engine Design written by Jack D. Mattingly and published by AIAA. This book was released on 2002 with total page 732 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Annotation A design textbook attempting to bridge the gap between traditional academic textbooks, which emphasize individual concepts and principles; and design handbooks, which provide collections of known solutions. The airbreathing gas turbine engine is the example used to teach principles and methods. The first edition appeared in 1987. The disk contains supplemental material. Annotation c. Book Advanced Jet Engine Combustor Test Facility

Download or read book Advanced Jet Engine Combustor Test Facility written by Paul W. Adam and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A test facility for conducting full-scale advanced annular jet engine combustor research and durability tests is described. Combustors have been operated on ambient or heated ASTM-A1, natural gas, and propane fuels to an average exit temperature of 2400' F (1589 K). The airflow of 285 lb/sec (129.4 kg/sec) at 1200' F (922 K), 115 psia (79.2 N/cm2), and 60 000-ft (18 240-m) altitude exhaust capability allows simulation of combustor inlet conditions over most of the range of interest in supersonic cruise engines. Description of a unique jet-engine-fired, nonvitiating air heater is included. The test section, the instrumentation, the data acquisition system, and operation techniques and experiences are also described.

Book Advanced Methods for Aircraft Engine Thrust and Noise Benefits

Download or read book Advanced Methods for Aircraft Engine Thrust and Noise Benefits written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-06-21 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this project on the first stage (2000-Ol), we continued to develop the previous joint research between the Fluid Mechanics and Acoustics Laboratory (FM&AL) at Hampton University (HU) and the Jet Noise Team (JNT) at the NASA Langley Research Center (NASA LaRC). At the second stage (2001-03), FM&AL team concentrated its efforts on solving of problems of interest to Glenn Research Center (NASA GRC), especially in the field of propulsion system enhancement. The NASA GRC R&D Directorate and LaRC Hyper-X Program specialists in a hypersonic technology jointly with the FM&AL staff conducted research on a wide region of problems in the propulsion field as well as in experimental testing and theoretical and numerical simulation analyses for advanced aircraft and rocket engines. The last year the Hampton University School of Engineering & Technology was awarded the NASA grant, for creation of the Aeropropulsion Center, and the FM&AL is a key team of the project fulfillment responsible for research in Aeropropulsion and Acoustics (Pillar I). This work is supported by joint research between the NASA GRC/ FM&AL and the Institute of Mechanics at Moscow State University (IMMSU) in Russia under a CRDF grant. The main areas of current scientific interest of the FM&AL include an investigation of the proposed and patented advanced methods for aircraft engine thrust and noise benefits. This is the main subject of our other projects, of which one is presented. The last year we concentrated our efforts to analyze three main problems: (a) new effective methods fuel injection into the flow stream in air-breathing engines; (b) new re-circulation method for mixing, heat transfer and combustion enhancement in propulsion systems and domestic industry application; (c) covexity flow The research is focused on a wide regime of problems in the propulsion field as well as in experimental testing and theoretical and numerical simulation analyses for advanced aircraf

Book Advanced Aircraft Materials Engine Debris Penetration Testing

Download or read book Advanced Aircraft Materials Engine Debris Penetration Testing written by Steven J. Lundin and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report documents the results of testing conducted in July and August 2001 at the Naval Air Warfare Center-Weapons Division, China Lake, CA, as part of the continued effort to characterize uncontained engine events. This effort was performed in support of the Federal Aviation Administration Aircraft Catastrophic Failure Prevention Program. Data generated from this test will support the penetration equation development for the Uncontained Engine Debris Damage Analysis Model (UEDDAM), a developmental design tool for conducting aircraft safety analysis for engine rotor burst events. This testing investigated composite materials and metals for use in component shielding applications. Previous testing had focused on aircraft skins and structural components. Four materials were investigated during this series of testing: 2024-T351 aluminum, Ti-6Al-4V titanium, Inconel(Trade Name) 625 low-cycle fatigue, and a generalized composite. Impact data from these materials was used to characterize the ballistic response via a material constant within the penetration equations. This material property was previously denoted as the dynamic shear modulus. Examination of the ballistic limit equation used within the UEDDAM has determined that the material constant is more appropriately a shear constant.
