Book Managing Pediatric Obesity Using Advanced Therapies

Download or read book Managing Pediatric Obesity Using Advanced Therapies written by Claudia K. Fox and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-11-26 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Treatment of pediatric obesity, to date, has largely focused on lifestyle therapy. While lifestyle therapy is essential for obesity management, it is often insufficient, particularly for youth who have severe forms of the disease. Underlying the limitations of lifestyle therapy is the recognition that obesity is a biological disorder of the energy regulatory system and accordingly, to effectively manage obesity, the underpinning pathophysiology needs to be addressed. This pathophysiology can be targeted with more advanced therapies including anti-obesity medications and metabolic and bariatric surgery, two treatment strategies supported by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Written by leading experts in the field, A Practical Guide to Managing Pediatric Obesity is comprised of thirteen chapters, each including suggested protocols and case examples. The first chapter details the complex pathophysiology of obesity and sets the stage for why advanced therapies are critical for effective obesity management. Chapter two provides guidance on best practices for communicating with patients and families about obesity. The next three chapters provide direction on how to do a comprehensive patient assessment, and employ dietary and physical activity interventions. The heart of this guidebook is the chapter on pharmacological treatments, which details the mechanisms of action, research results, and recommendations for anti-obesity medication selection and monitoring outlined in a step-by-step fashion. Pre- and post-operative care for the pediatric bariatric surgery patient is detailed in the next chapter. Assessment and management of behavioral and psychological complications, type 2 diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, polycystic ovary syndrome, hypertension, and dyslipidemia are covered in the subsequent five chapters. Syndromic and monogenic obesity are discussed in the final chapter.

Book Soldiers of Christ Advanced Bible Studies

Download or read book Soldiers of Christ Advanced Bible Studies written by Tim Randall and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2019-07-29 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Did Adam and Eve populate the entire Earth? What is the truth about Adam's rib? Do people go to heaven when they die? These are just some of the questions people ask in life, but don't always get a straight answer. Or worse yet, you get conflicting answers. Different religions and different denominations have entirely different ideas on these subjects. The truth is, God doesn't have a religion. God doesn't have a denomination. God has his Word, embodied in Jesus Christ. Christian means "little Christ" and is not a religion. These advanced bible studies explore the truth of God's Word without religiosity or denominational doctrine. Leave your preconceived notions at the door as you begin this in-depth study of God's Word. "And you will know the Truth and the Truth will set you free.". (Jn. 8:32)

Book Birth Advantages and Relative Age Effects in Sport

Download or read book Birth Advantages and Relative Age Effects in Sport written by Adam L. Kelly and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-06-03 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Relative age effects (RAEs) refer to the participation, selection, and attainment inequalities in the immediate, short-term, and long-term in sports. Indeed, dozens of studies have identified RAEs across male and female sporting contexts. Despite its widespread prevalence, there is a paucity in the empirical research and practical application of strategies specifically designed to moderate RAEs. Thus, the purpose of this book is to situate RAEs in the context of youth sport structures, lay foundational knowledge concerning the mechanisms that underpin RAEs, and offer alternative group banding strategies aimed at moderating RAEs. In order to enhance our knowledge on birth advantages and RAEs to create more appropriate settings, key stakeholders, such as coaches, practitioners, administrators, policy makers, and researchers, are required to understand the possible influence of and interaction between birthplace, engagement in activities, ethnicity, genetic profile, parents, socioeconomic status, and relative age. Thus, in addition to RAEs and alternative group banding strategies, Birth Advantages and Relative Age Effects in Sport also examines the role of additional birth advantages and socio-environmental factors that young athletes may experience in organized youth sport. Drawing from both empirical research and practical examples, this book comprises three parts: (a) organizational structures, (b) group banding strategies, and (c) socio-environmental factors. Overall, this book broadens our understanding of the methodological, contextual, and practical considerations within organizational structures in sport to create more appropriate settings, and strive to make positive, impactful change to lived youth sport experiences. This book will be of vital reading to academics, researchers, and key stakeholders of sports coaching, athlete development, and youth sport, as well as other related disciplines.
