Book Adhesion and Adsorption of Polymers

Download or read book Adhesion and Adsorption of Polymers written by Lieng-Huang Lee and published by Springer. This book was released on 1980-03 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Honolulu is a most beautiful place, suitable for all occa sions. Its choice as the meeting site for the first Joint Chemical Congress between the American Chemical SOCiety and the Chemical Society of Japan was praised by scientists from both sides. During this Congress, the International Conference on Adhesion and Adsorption of Polymers was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel between April 2 and 5, 1979. We had speakers from ten nations presenting over forty papers related to the subject matter. It was a memorable event. Unlike our two previous adhesion symposia held in 1971 and 1975, this was the first time in the same conference that we discussed both adhesion and adsorption of polymers simultaneously. These two important phenomena are not only inter-related, but also equally important in adhesive technology as well as biochemical processes. The papers presented to this Conference deal with these two phenomena from both fundamental and practical viewpoints. Furthermore, with the advance of new surface analytical techniques, the actual, microscopic happenings at the interfaces can be pin pointed. Thus, characterization of interface became one of the major focuses of this Conference. As a result, a broad coverage of the subject matter includes statistical thermodynamics, surface physics, surface analysis, fracture mechaniCS, viscoelasticity, failure analysis, surface modification, adsorption kinetics, bio polymer adsorption, etc. Thanks to the diligence of our contri butors, we are now able to publish the final papers in these two volumes.

Book Physics of Polymer Surfaces and Interfaces

Download or read book Physics of Polymer Surfaces and Interfaces written by Isaac C. Sanchez and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 1992 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Physics of Polymer Surfaces and Interfaces emphasizes current theoretical ideas and modern experimental tools for characterizing the physical properties of polymer surfaces and interfaces. Foremost are their important roles in polymer technology throughthe processes of wetting, adhesion, adsorption, and through their effect on the kinetics of phase separation and mechanical mixing of molten polymers. Each of the 14 chapters in this book stands as a 'mini-review' of a specific subject. This up-to-date compendium of the most significant theoretical and experimental works provides a scientific understanding of the physics of polymer interfaces and surfaces and will aid scientists in planning and interpreting new results.

Book Homopolymer Adsorption at Solid liquid Interfaces

Download or read book Homopolymer Adsorption at Solid liquid Interfaces written by Jessy Simon Haddad and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding the interfacial organization of polymers with excluded volume inte ractions near solid surfaces is an issue of fundamental interest that is relevan t for many technological and biological applications. In this work, we address s everal questions pertaining to the adsorption- desorption phase behavior of a ho mopolymer chain interacting with a solid surface and to the adsorption- desorpti on point for finite and infinite chains. Our analysis is based on a self- consis tent field approximation using the lattice model. We employ different extrapolation methods to alleviate diffic ulties, which arise when considering very long chains, and eventually discuss th e results for infinite chains. One of our interesting findings is that homopolymers may undergo an adsorption- desorption transition in the vicinity of the surface of the second order contrar y to some other predictions. Finally we discuss the dependence of the critical p oint on the quality of the solvent.
