Book Adsorption and Exchange of Polymers at Solid solution Interfaces

Download or read book Adsorption and Exchange of Polymers at Solid solution Interfaces written by Zengli Fu and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Relaxations within adsorbed PEO layers were probed through the self exchange of coumarin tagged and native chains. Results suggest that interfacial relaxations approach completion within 10-20 hours. New evidence for non-equilibrium interfacial behavior at long aging times was presented for flexible PEO chains, in contrast to prior short-time studies which supported local equilibrium. The findings suggest that high numbers of entanglements or segment-surface contacts are at least as important as the role of backbone stiffness in establishing metastable interfacial states.

Book QCM D Studies on Polymer Behavior at Interfaces

Download or read book QCM D Studies on Polymer Behavior at Interfaces written by Guangming Liu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-08-27 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: QCM-D Studies on Polymer Behavior at Interfaces reviews the applications of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM-D) in polymer research, including the conformational change of grafted polymer chains, the grafting kinetics of polymer chains, the growth mechanism of polyelectrolyte multilayers, and the interactions between polymers and phospholipid membranes. It focuses on how QCM-D can be applied to the study of polymer behavior at various solid-liquid interfaces. Moreover, it clearly reveals the physical significance of the changes in frequency and dissipation associated with the different polymer behaviors at the interfaces.

Book Adsorption From Solution

Download or read book Adsorption From Solution written by R. H. Ottewill and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adsorption From Solution discusses the significance of adsorption behavior in thermodynamic terms, with emphasis on the interplay between enthalpic and entropic contributions to the free energy. This book examines the role of simple models and of elementary thermodynamic and statistical mechanical arguments in relation to the concept of surface phase. Organized into 22 chapters, this book starts with an overview of the theoretical model for the solid/liquid interface. This text then proceeds with a discussion of the general thermodynamic treatment of adsorption from mixed solvents, which is designed to apply in situations where adsorbed species may be regarded as distinct from their bulk counterparts. Other chapters discuss the adsorption from solutions of various interfaces of liquid/gas, liquid/liquid, or liquid/solid. The final chapter deals with the roles of adsorption from solution in controlling other phenomena, such as liquid–liquid displacement, wetting, and the forces between colloidal particles. Physicists, chemists, and materials scientists will find this book extremely useful.

Book Dynamics of Adsorption at Liquid Interfaces

Download or read book Dynamics of Adsorption at Liquid Interfaces written by S.S. Dukhin and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1995-04-11 with total page 601 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the first of its kind, this book provides a valuable introduction for scientists and engineers interested in liquid/fluid interfaces and disperse systems to the rapidly developing area of adsorption dynamics. It is the first extensive review available on the subject of dynamics of adsorption and gives a general summary of the current state of adsorption kinetics theory and experiments. Current progress in recently designed set-ups and improved and generalised known methods for studying interfacial relaxations is reviewed. In addition, the role of the electric charge of surfactants in the adsorption process is discussed in terms of a non-equilibrium distribution of adsorbing ions in the diffuse layer.Present theories of the effect of dynamic adsorption layers on mobile surfaces, such as moving drops and bubbles, based on both diffusion and kinetic controlled adsorption models are described and efficient approximate analytical methods to solve the mathematical problem of coupling surfactant transport and hydrodynamics are introduced. The role of a dynamic adsorption layer in bubble rising, film drainage and film stabilisation and in complex processes such as flotation and microflotation is discussed.Containing more than 1100 references, the book is essential reading for industrial scientists and graduate and post-graduate students in physical, surface and colloid chemistry, physico-chemical hydrodynamics, water purification and mineral processing.

Book Polymers at Interfaces

Download or read book Polymers at Interfaces written by Gerard Fleer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1993-09-30 with total page 524 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is concerned with the configuration of polymers at the interfacial zone between two other phases or immiscible components. In recent years, developments in technology combined with increased attention from specialists in a wide range of fields have resulted in a considerable increase in our understanding of the behavior of polymers at interfaces. Inevitably these advances have generated a wealth of literature and although there have been numerous reviews, a critical treatment with adequate descriptions of both theory and experiment, including detailed analysis of the two, has been missing. This text hopes to fill this gap, providing a timely and comprehensive account of the field as it stands today. This long needed work will be invaluable to experts as well as newcomers in the broad field of polymers, interfaces and colloids, both in industry and academia. Whilst industrial laboratories involved in this field will find it indispensable, it will be equally important to anyone with an interest in interfacial polymer or colloidal research.
