Book Sensitivity Uncertainty Analysis Volume 1

Download or read book Sensitivity Uncertainty Analysis Volume 1 written by Dan G. Cacuci and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2003-05-28 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As computer-assisted modeling and analysis of physical processes have continued to grow and diversify, sensitivity and uncertainty analyses have become indispensable investigative scientific tools in their own right. While most techniques used for these analyses are well documented, there has yet to appear a systematic treatment of the method based on adjoint operators, which is applicable to a much wider variety of problems than methods traditionally used in control theory. This book fills that gap, focusing on the mathematical underpinnings of the Adjoint Sensitivity Analysis Procedure (ASAP) and the use of deterministically obtained sensitivities for subsequent uncertainty analysis.

Book Numerical Methods in Sensitivity Analysis and Shape Optimization

Download or read book Numerical Methods in Sensitivity Analysis and Shape Optimization written by Emmanuel Laporte and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2002-12-13 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sensitivity analysis and optimal shape design are key issues in engineering that have been affected by advances in numerical tools currently available. This book, and its supplementary online files, presents basic optimization techniques that can be used to compute the sensitivity of a given design to local change, or to improve its performance by local optimization of these data. The relevance and scope of these techniques have improved dramatically in recent years because of progress in discretization strategies, optimization algorithms, automatic differentiation, software availability, and the power of personal computers. Numerical Methods in Sensitivity Analysis and Shape Optimization will be of interest to graduate students involved in mathematical modeling and simulation, as well as engineers and researchers in applied mathematics looking for an up-to-date introduction to optimization techniques, sensitivity analysis, and optimal design.

Book Applications of Polynomial Systems

Download or read book Applications of Polynomial Systems written by David A. Cox and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2020-03-02 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Systems of polynomial equations can be used to model an astonishing variety of phenomena. This book explores the geometry and algebra of such systems and includes numerous applications. The book begins with elimination theory from Newton to the twenty-first century and then discusses the interaction between algebraic geometry and numerical computations, a subject now called numerical algebraic geometry. The final three chapters discuss applications to geometric modeling, rigidity theory, and chemical reaction networks in detail. Each chapter ends with a section written by a leading expert. Examples in the book include oil wells, HIV infection, phylogenetic models, four-bar mechanisms, border rank, font design, Stewart-Gough platforms, rigidity of edge graphs, Gaussian graphical models, geometric constraint systems, and enzymatic cascades. The reader will encounter geometric objects such as Bézier patches, Cayley-Menger varieties, and toric varieties; and algebraic objects such as resultants, Rees algebras, approximation complexes, matroids, and toric ideals. Two important subthemes that appear in multiple chapters are toric varieties and algebraic statistics. The book also discusses the history of elimination theory, including its near elimination in the middle of the twentieth century. The main goal is to inspire the reader to learn about the topics covered in the book. With this in mind, the book has an extensive bibliography containing over 350 books and papers.

Book Comparative Dynamics Sensitivity Analysis in Optimal Control Theory

Download or read book Comparative Dynamics Sensitivity Analysis in Optimal Control Theory written by Hajime Oniki and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The paper considers an optimal control problem with a parameter and develops a systematic method for comparative dynamics. A sufficient condition for the optimum solution to be differentiable with respect to the parameter is provided. Formulas for computing the derivative are given in the form of initial-value problems of linear differential equations. Possibility of discontinuous optimal controls is fully taken care of. The derivative of the maximized objective function with respect to the parameter is expressed in a simple form by using the auxiliary variables. An example of the comparative dynamics is given in terms of a model of optimal capital accumulation.
