Book excerpt: I am still the girl from the neighborhood of people who kept the candle of hope burning brightly inside their hearts and, through love and patience, passed that light on to all of us youths. Elders refused to allow forced segregation to be the determinant for the quality of their life experiences because they knew the true Supplier of all riches. Holding their memories close within me, I joyfully resolve to continue to have pride in my ancestry and allow my life and art to reect their Wisdom. Now the mature, virtuous woman of John Miles and Estella, I appreciate the patience and Wisdom shared by so many during the days of small steps. I am Nsaa; a living, breathing, bursting-with-love, genuine woman who understands and appreciates the rich, earthen soil of experience that has expanded my heart and authenticated my character. I daily adorn my psyche with my own self-made garment of silk and purplea garment that holds me fast to my spirituality and maintains my uniqueness and originality. My attainment of the ideal is to completely mesh with that virtuous woman prole expressed so expertly by King Lemuels mom and lived so joyfully by my Estella. I am forever indebted to wise King Solomon for introducing me to so much Wisdom, as well as my beloved John Miles, Estella, and a host of others who have helped make Wisdom my friend. With a heart of true gratitude, I stand proud and condent that Wisdom is guiding me to become that awless brightly shining ruby that mirrors the heart of my Creator. A ruby that forever radiates forth its true translucenceno matter what unknown situation life may send my way.

Book excerpt: The family tradition was broken over the centuries since they came across from Dahomey. But the family remembered much of what their ancestors had taught. Now, the Sib is stretching its wings and recovering much of what was lost. From today's libraries, traces have been found. And the web, like Legba's fabled home, has caught the small flies of more details to flesh out knowledge that is fragmented. This revised and expanded edition will add to the reader's understanding of how one family has pulled together the strands of a long and broken history to make a new beginning in the modern world. The author, Tielzi'e alim, was student to Tovodu se Legba, and has carried his plans for the Sib forward in this book. It is now open for the world to read, according to his plan. Modupe!

Book Introduction to African Religion

Mbiti’s accessible writing style sympathetically portrays how African Religion manifests itself in ritual, festival, healing, the human life cycle, and interplay with the mystical and invisible world. The account embraces foundational traditions, while touching on elements that spawn transitions, including migration, the spread of Christianity and Islam, political-economic development, and modern communication. Book Connecting with My African Roots

Download or read book Connecting with My African Roots written by Carmen Barclay Subryan Ph.D. and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2021-05-25 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is not only about connection but also about discovery. As an adult, through my years or reading and research, I became aware of the theories revolving around Pangea (Pangaea), the super continent existing over 300 million years ago that included Africa and South America. The theory is that it broke apart to form the Americas, the Atlantic Ocean, as well as many islands. If one looks at a globe or a map, one would see that Africa and South America fit together like a hand in a glove, and if one believes the theory, then these countries share a common ancestry. So even though what became known as The Middle Passage separated the two continents, the people undoubtedly retain the DNA of those ancestors that creates a forever connection between what was and what is. For this reason, the picture of Pangea on my book cover is exceedingly important.

Book HOODOO PEOPLE Afurakanu Afuraitkaitnut Africans in North America Akan Custodians of Hoodoo from Ancient Hoodoo Udunu Land Khanit Nubia

Download or read book HOODOO PEOPLE Afurakanu Afuraitkaitnut Africans in North America Akan Custodians of Hoodoo from Ancient Hoodoo Udunu Land Khanit Nubia written by Odwirafo Kwesi Ra Nehem Ptah Akhan and published by Odwirafo Kwesi Ra Nehem Ptah Akhan. This book was released on with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: HOODOO PEOPLE: Afurakanu/Afuraitkaitnut (Africans) in North America - Akan Custodians of Hoodoo from Ancient Hoodoo/Udunu Land (Khanit/Nubia) Afurakanu/Afuraitkaitnut (Africans~Black People) in North america brought our Hoodoo religion and culture with us in our blood-circles from Afuraka/Afuraitkait (Africa) during the Mmusuo Kese (Great Perversity/Enslavement Era). This is an unbroken tradition which is not only intergenerational, but transcarnational. This means that it was and is informed by the Abosom and our Nananom Nsamanfo, Akan terms for Deities/Divine Spirit-Forces that animate Creation and our Spiritually Cultivated Ancestresses and Ancestors. It is through the Abosom (Deities) that our Ancestral Religious traditions are established. This is true of all Afurakanu/Afuraitkaitnut (Africans) wherever we are in the world. When the Abosom first possessed our Ancestresses and Ancestors via ritual and communicated the Divine Order of Creation directly to them, our religious practice was established. When those first Ancestresses and Ancestors preserved what they were taught by the Abosom and transferred that tradition via protocols to their posterity without profanation, our religious practice was/is perpetuated. Our knowledge of Nyamewaa-Nyame Nhyehyee, The Mother and Father Supreme Being’s Order (Divine Order), our role in the Divine Order and the means by which we can ritually incorporate Divine Law and ritually restore Divine Balance to our lives is replenished in every generation as the Abosom and Nananom Nsamanfo continue to communicate with us via spirit-possession and spirit-communication. Ancestral Spirit possession includes communication with our ancient Afurakani/Afuraitkaitnit (African) Ancestresses and Ancestors up to our recently transitioned Ancestresses and Ancestors of good character. Whenever we have children we have drawn one or more of our Nsamanfo, our Ancestresses and Ancestors, into the womb to return to Asaase Afua (Earth Mother) once again. The knowledge of the religion and culture is written into their Okra/Okraa, their Soul/Divine Consciousness by Nyamewaa-Nyame, the Supreme Being. As they grow and develop they access this Ancestral knowledge and incorporate it into every aspect of their lives when properly acculturated. Through this process they positively impact the lives of everyone in the community. This is transcarnational transmission of culture, the intergenerational spiri-genetic transmission of culture which was/is impervious to being broken through the horrors of the Mmusuo Kese (enslavement).

Book African Textiles Today

    Book Details:
  • Author : Chris Spring
  • Publisher : Smithsonian Institution
  • Release : 2012-10-09
  • ISBN : 1588343804
  • Pages : 259 pages

Download or read book African Textiles Today written by Chris Spring and published by Smithsonian Institution. This book was released on 2012-10-09 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: African Textiles Today illustrates how African history is read, told, and recorded in cloth. All artifacts or works of art hold within them stories that range far beyond the time of their creation or the lifetime of their creator, and African textiles are patterned with these hidden histories. In Africa, cloth may be used to memorialize or commemorate something - an event, a person, a political cause - which in other parts of the world might be written down in detail or recorded by a plaque or monument. History in Africa can be read, told, and recorded in cloth. Making and trading numerous types of cloth have been vital elements in African life and culture for at least two millennia, linking different parts of the continent with each other and the rest of the world. Africa's long engagement with the peoples of the Mediterranean and the islands of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans provides a story of change and continuity. African Textiles Today shows how ideas, techniques, materials, and markets have adapted and flourished, and how the dynamic traditions in African textiles have provided inspiration for the continent's foremost contemporary artists and photographers. With a concluding chapter discussing the impact of African designs across the world, the book offers a fascinating insight into the living history of Africa.
