Download or read book Dyslexia Decoded written by Bina Nangia and published by Hay House, Inc. This book was released on 2014-04-14 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If I can’t learn the way you teach, please teach me the way I can learn It is only when you read about real-life stories you want to believe that strategies work. The method suggested in Dyslexia Decoded have been tried and tested for more than two decades with different levels of difficulties, different students and a variety of situations. Processing information and using proper sound system results in learning differently, while styles of learning when incorporated in teaching, makes mild learning difficulties disappear. Emotional, social impacts of learning difficulties cannot be ignored as they cause greater harm than the difficulty itself. This book shows you just that and emphasizes the need to counsel students, teachers, parents and schools. Schools form a major part of children’s lives and when they take on the task of supporting the 10% of their population with specific learning difficulties they go beyond their own limitations and contribute a great deal to the lives of all children. A special school system is detrimental for children with specific learning difficulties even though it may seem to be the answer for other special needs. This book encourages schools to include students with specific learning difficulties, while guiding them to use the support which the Boards willingly give.
Download or read book Decoding Doing written by Jonathan Hassall and published by . This book was released on 2021-11-27 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers an explanation of procrastination in the context of ADHD. Procrastination happens when we know we should do something for our benefit but actively avoid or delay doing it. At that moment, the focus is on not doing something rather than figuring out what is getting in the way. It can result in failed studies, lost jobs, broken relationships, missed opportunities, and a belief in inevitable failure.By creating a model for what happens when we act to support our intentions, we are able to decode and address procrastination-and, even better, to understand how to avoid it. We call this model the CIMAA Code. CIMAA is an acronym for the five stages of task achievement in our model: connect, imagine, motivate, act, and achieve. This book examines procrastination and ADHD and how they are linked. We then review executive function to better understand ADHD. Organization as a tool of support is presented as we look to manage deficits in executive functioning. We present the CIMAA Code stage by stage, to model successful task achievement from commitment through to completion. Some examples are given of this model in action, and a workbook is included to support the use of the CIMAA Code with day-to-day tasks. Finally, we look more broadly at how these skills can be applied across your life, beyond individual tasks and achievement.
Download or read book A Life Decoded written by J. Craig Venter and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2007-10-18 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The triumphant memoir of the man behind one of the greatest feats in scientific history Of all the scientific achievements of the past century, perhaps none can match the deciphering of the human genetic code, both for its technical brilliance and for its implications for our future. In A Life Decoded, J. Craig Venter traces his rise from an uninspired student to one of the most fascinating and controversial figures in science today. Here, Venter relates the unparalleled drama of the quest to decode the human genome?a goal he predicted he could achieve years earlier and more cheaply than the government-sponsored Human Genome Project, and one that he fulfilled in 2001. A thrilling story of detection, A Life Decoded is also a revealing, and often troubling, look at how science is practiced today.

Download or read book I Overcame My Autism and All I Got Was This Lousy Anxiety Disorder written by Sarah Kurchak and published by Douglas & McIntyre. This book was released on 2020-04-02 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sarah Kurchak is autistic. She hasn’t let that get in the way of pursuing her dream to become a writer, or to find love, but she has let it get in the way of being in the same room with someone chewing food loudly, and of cleaning her bathroom sink. In I Overcame My Autism and All I Got Was This Lousy Anxiety Disorder, Kurchak examines the Byzantine steps she took to become “an autistic success story,” how the process almost ruined her life and how she is now trying to recover. Growing up undiagnosed in small-town Ontario in the eighties and nineties, Kurchak realized early that she was somehow different from her peers. She discovered an effective strategy to fend off bullying: she consciously altered nearly everything about herself—from her personality to her body language. She forced herself to wear the denim jeans that felt like being enclosed in a sandpaper iron maiden. Every day, she dragged herself through the door with an elevated pulse and a churning stomach, nearly crumbling under the effort of the performance. By the time she was finally diagnosed with autism at twenty-seven, she struggled with depression and anxiety largely caused by the same strategy she had mastered precisely. She came to wonder, were all those years of intensely pretending to be someone else really worth it? Tackling everything from autism parenting culture to love, sex, alcohol, obsessions and professional pillow fighting, Kurchak’s enlightening memoir challenges stereotypes and preconceptions about autism and considers what might really make the lives of autistic people healthier, happier and more fulfilling.

Book excerpt: ADHD is a condition in the brain many people are somewhat familiar with. However, when it comes to the specifics, the majority of us are still left in the dark. The main essence of ADHD is missing when people just think that you’re hyperactive and unfocused. There is way more to it. And not only is so much more to say about the causes of ADHD, but about the consequences as well. For example, people with ADHD are more prone to addictions or suicide. There is medication for ADHD, but there are also other methods that can help contain the symptoms of the disorder. Moreover, people with ADHD can have specific strengths, too, that other people are lacking. For all these reasons and more, the author of this book has decided to address some of these issues and give you a better grasp of what ADHD is, where it comes from, and what it means in someone’s everyday life. Download or read book ADHD and the Criminal Justice System written by Robert Francis Eme and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2018-12-21 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the continuing controversies surrounding ADHD, voluminous research has incontrovertibly established that it is a valid disorder that results in an increased risk for adverse outcomes in multiple areas of life. One of these is increased risk of criminal behavior. An astounding 25 percent of young adult males who are incarcerated in the United States, the United Kingdom, and other Western countries have ADHD. Treatment of individuals with ADHD with stimulant medication can result in a 31% reduction in their criminal behavior and a 43% reduction in violent crime in offenders after release from prison. However, despite the widespread prevalence of ADHD and the remarkable effectiveness of its treatment on reducing crime, the systematic identification and treatment of ADHD in the criminal justice system is virtually non-existent. This is the first book written for professionals in the criminal justice system to help them better understand and work with people who have ADHD. It will provide criminal justice professionals with what they need to know about ADHD based on the best of current science. This knowledge will serve to significantly enhance their effectiveness in working with the 25% of offenders who have ADHD.

Download or read book Life Skills Mastery written by Ioannis Tzivanakis and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2022-06-07 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All twenty life skills are not something we can choose, nor something we can decide against. They come automatically by being alive. Moreover, there is also no watertight reason for not accepting them. The life skills are, after all, the skills of life. And they are also the skills for life at the same time. For this reason, they are always our best investment for the future and our best equipment for the everlasting present. The importance of life skills is obvious. However, this also means that all processes that largely determine our lives, such as upbringing, education, training and, yes, the nature of the prevailing social structure and also culture, should be (transformed) in such a way that the natural development and mastery of the truly necessary life skills is made possible or even guaranteed.
