Book Model Reference Adaptive Control

Download or read book Model Reference Adaptive Control written by Nhan T. Nguyen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-03-01 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook provides readers with a good working knowledge of adaptive control theory through applications. It is intended for students beginning masters or doctoral courses, and control practitioners wishing to get up to speed in the subject expeditiously. Readers are taught a wide variety of adaptive control techniques starting with simple methods and extending step-by-step to more complex ones. Stability proofs are provided for all adaptive control techniques without obfuscating reader understanding with excessive mathematics. The book begins with standard model-reference adaptive control (MRAC) for first-order, second-order, and multi-input, multi-output systems. Treatment of least-squares parameter estimation and its extension to MRAC follow, helping readers to gain a different perspective on MRAC. Function approximation with orthogonal polynomials and neural networks, and MRAC using neural networks are also covered. Robustness issues connected with MRAC are discussed, helping the student to appreciate potential pitfalls of the technique. This appreciation is encouraged by drawing parallels between various aspects of robustness and linear time-invariant systems wherever relevant. Following on from the robustness problems is material covering robust adaptive control including standard methods and detailed exposition of recent advances, in particular, the author’s work on optimal control modification. Interesting properties of the new method are illustrated in the design of adaptive systems to meet stability margins. This method has been successfully flight-tested on research aircraft, one of various flight-control applications detailed towards the end of the book along with a hybrid adaptive flight control architecture that combines direct MRAC with least-squares indirect adaptive control. In addition to the applications, understanding is encouraged by the use of end-of-chapter exercises and associated MATLAB® files. Readers will need no more than the standard mathematics for basic control theory such as differential equations and matrix algebra; the book covers the foundations of MRAC and the necessary mathematical preliminaries.

Book A Simplified Technique for the Synthesis of Model referenced Adaptive Control Systems

Download or read book A Simplified Technique for the Synthesis of Model referenced Adaptive Control Systems written by Stanford University Stanford Electronics Laboratories and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An easily implemented adaption technique was derived analytically for the synthesis of model-referenced adaptive control systems. The simplicity of this technique gives it a distinct advantage over other techniques that have been described in the literature and makes it attractive for practical applications. The direct approach to the problem employs the state-space point of view. Solving the differential equations of the reference model and the adaptive control system leads to an expression showing the explicit functional dependence of the performance error on the adaptive parameters. Manipulation of the expression for performance error yields the adaption equations, which are very simple to implement. Model-referenced adaptive control systems utilizing this simplified adaption technique are investigated by means of an extensive stability analysis. Computer simulations are made to verify the various theoretical results obtained and to give some indication as to the performance capabilities of the simplified adaption technique. The model-referenced approach is shown to have application in the design of high-performance aircraft and missiles.

Book Synthesis of an Adaptive Observer Using Lyapunov s Direct Method

Download or read book Synthesis of an Adaptive Observer Using Lyapunov s Direct Method written by Prabhakar Kudva and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The model reference approach using Lyapunov's direct method for adaptive control and identification problems has proved to be a powerful one in recent years. This is so because it inherently enables one to choose the structure of the controller (or identifier) so that the overall system is stable -- a feature not commonly encountered when using other methods. In the report an alternate observer structure is developed which contains some of the features of those described in previous papers. The emphasis throughout is on the structure of the overall system, the form of the adaptive laws and the cubic nature of the feedback signals to the observer. The Kalman-Yakubovich lemma is used to show the existence of a quadratic Lyapunov function of the form used for the case when all the state variables of the plant are accessible.

This book was released on 2007-12-06 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors here provide a detailed treatment of the design of robust adaptive controllers for nonlinear systems with uncertainties. They employ a new tool based on the ideas of system immersion and manifold invariance. New algorithms are delivered for the construction of robust asymptotically-stabilizing and adaptive control laws for nonlinear systems. The methods proposed lead to modular schemes that are easier to tune than their counterparts obtained from Lyapunov redesign.
