Book excerpt: Les études protocolaires sur les réseaux multi-sauts mobiles proposent d'améliorer la performance du réseau en liant le comportement des protocoles à sa dynamique d'évolution. Le protocole s'adapte à l'état du réseau grâce à un ensemble de métriques. Ainsi pour les protocoles de routage il s'agit de trouver des chemins tout en considérant l'état énergétique des nœuds, la bande passante des liens, la qualité de service, ou encore la dynamique de la topologie qui est liée à la qualité des liens sans fil et à la mobilité des éléments du réseau. Le travail présenté traite de l'adaptation à la mobilité dans les protocoles de routage et s'intéresse aux métriques de mobilité. Dans une première étape nous analysons le processus d'adaptation en en dégageant les caractéristiques, les contraintes et l'intérêt, et étudions qualitativement les métriques de mobilité. Nous examinons différents travaux de recherche ayant pour objet la mobilité et ses métriques dont nous proposons une taxinomie originale. Nous mettons en évidence l'intérêt des métriques obtenues par mesure locale et de voisinage. Dans une deuxième étape, nous évaluons par simulation les métriques. L'objectif est de déterminer une "meilleure" métrique de mobilité, c'est-à-dire celle qui apportera le plus de gain de performance à une adaptation protocolaire. Le postulat est que plus la métrique influe sur les performances d'un protocole, plus il est intéressant que le protocole adapte son comportement en fonction de sa valeur. L'analyse de corrélation entre performances et métriques, sur plusieurs protocoles de routage, ne permet pas de mettre en avant une meilleure métrique qui soit indépendante du contexte, à savoir de la densité ou du modèle de mobilité. Nous montrons néanmoins l'intérêt de la métrique durée de liaison. Finalement, nous développons deux applications à partir des métriques sélectionnées par l'analyse. Ce sont la densité, exprimée par le nombre de voisins, ainsi que la mobilité, exprimée par la durée de liaison pour la première application, et par le nombre d'erreurs de route pour la seconde application. La première application met en place un choix adaptatif des éléments MPR (Multi-Point Relay) dans le protocole de routage Optimized Link State Routing (OLSR), la deuxième développe une élection adaptative des chefs de clusters et un changement de mode adaptatif (avec ou sans structure) pour le protocole Cluster Source Routing (CSR). Pour les deux applications plusieurs stratégies d'adaptations sont considérées ; le meilleur résultat est obtenu dans les deux cas par la stratégie d'adaptation à la mobilité en plus de la densité. Ce travail se prolonge par l'étude de validation des résultats en rapport au modèle de mobilité. Nous en déduisons une méthode pour appliquer, selon les conditions de mobilité et de densité, des adaptations.

Un avantage indéniable de ses technologies sans fil est la possibilité d'être mobile tout en restant connecté. Cependant, la mobilité est une tâche difficile à gérer car elle doit être abordée à différentes couches pour être transparente aux utilisateurs. Dans les MANET (Mobile Ad hoc Network), les protocoles de routage utilisent des métriques pour sélectionner les meilleures routes. Les métriques peuvent refléter la qualité de la liaison sans fil et aider à gérer la mobilité.Mais, un retard important entre l'estimation des métriques et leur inclusion dans le processus de routage rend cette approche inefficace.Les travaux de cette thèse s'intéressent à la proposition de nouvelles méthodes de calcul des métriques de routage pour gérer le problème de la mobilité dans les réseaux ad hoc. Les nouvelles métriques doivent refléter la qualité du lien et être sensibles à la mobilité en même temps. Nous considérons les métriques classiques, en particulier ETX (Expected Transmission Count) et ETT (Expected Transmission Time). Nous introduisons de nouvelles méthodes pour anticiper les valeurs de ces métriques en utilisant des algorithmes de prédiction. Nous utilisons une approche Cross layer, qui permet l'utilisation conjointe de l'information à partir des couches 1, 2 et 3. La validation de nouvelles méthodes de calcul des métriques de routage nécessite une évaluation au travers d'un véritable banc d'essai. Nous avons donc également mis en œuvre les nouvelles métriques de routage dans un testbed afin d'évaluer et de comparer leurs performances avec les métriques classiques.

Dans cette thèse, nous nous sommes intéressés à des techniques qui mettent la mobilité au service du routage dans un réseau ad hoc de grande taille. Certains inconvénients du routage dans ces réseaux sont l'information imprécise sur le routage des noeuds à longue distance, la variation de la connectivité et le surcoût généré par les protocoles de routage. Cette thèse offre une solution basée sur le contrôle de la mobilité des noeuds pour amléiorer les performances des protocoles de routage d'un réseau ad hoc de grande taille. Nous pensons que le mouvement des noeuds présente une opportunité: si les noeuds se déplacent d'une manière appropriée, alors les algorithmes de routage peuvent en tirer profit. Ainsi, notre solution met en oeuvre un mécanisme de rendez-vous qui réduit, les effets de la mobilité, le surcoût dû aux mises à jour et assure une communication en temps borné dans le réseau. Une autre conséquence de ce mécanisme est la réduction de la consommation de l'énergie et de la bande passante car la zone de transmission des noeuds peut être réduite. Nous présentons deux algorithmes, dont un tolérant aux pannes et développé un simulateur pour faire des tests et des mesures de performances. Dans un tel réseau, les hôtes (ou noeuds) échangent entre eux des paquets de données par liaison radio, sans recourir à aucune hiérarchisation ni supervision centralisée. En fait, les transferts de données s’effectuent sous le contrôle de protocoles de routage distribués et tous les noeuds sont susceptibles de contribuer à l’acheminement de données d’une source vers une destination. Les principaux problèmes qui en résultent sont la mobilité des noeuds, qui complique le routage, ainsi que les limitations de la bande passante (et donc en débit) et de consommation énergétique (liées à la durée de vie plus ou moins longue des batteries).La mobilité, la minimisation de la consommation et les protocoles de routage ont constitué les points clés de notre étude. Nous avons passé en revue les modèles de mobilité existants et étudié par simulation les caractéristiques des trajectoires simulées, ainsi que les implications en termes de consommation d’énergie. Puis nous avons détaillé les principaux protocoles de routage, indiqué leur impact sur la consommation d’énergie et étudié par simulation les effets de la mobilité des noeuds sur leur comportement. Nous avons enfin introduit un protocole, baptisé LEMFN, consistant en une fusion extension de deux types de routage déjà connus et dont le principal objectif est la diminution de la consommation d’énergie dans les réseaux ad hoc constitués de plusieurs groupes de noeuds distincts. Le fonctionnement de cet algorithme a été étudié par simulation et comparé à celui d’autres méthodes de routage.

Book excerpt: Since the Doi Moi policy of economic renovation was introduced in 1986, Vietnam has undergone deep transformations as a result of the transition to a socialist-oriented market economy. Social and urban transition has taken place in parallel, as urban dynamics were spurred on by Vietnamese public and private stakeholders, and by external agents such as international organizations and international solidarity organizations, experts, consultants and bilateral aid organizations.Here are the results of research carried out by French, Canadian and Vietnamese teams from the north and south of the country on the overarching theme of Vietnamese cities in transition. Some of this research deals with urban dynamics, some with the issues at stake within such dynamics, or with the strategies of the most significant stakeholders in urban transition: civil society, donors within the framework of official aid for development, consultants and international consultancy firms. These projects were carried out between 2001 and 2004 as part of the Urban Research Programme for Development (PRUD), and mainly focus on Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, or both in the case of comparative studies.Is there such a thing as a Vietnamese model of an Asian city? It seems that urban transition in Vietnam is not taking place in as radical and abrupt a manner as in China. The country's capacity for absorbing external models, the quest for a third way between state intervention and economic liberalism, and the fact that the country's architectural heritage is taken into account in urban planning, are just some of the reasons for its particularity. The issues addressed in each chapter, as well as the proposals for further research suggested by the contributors, should act as a catalyst for urban research in Vietnam.
