This book was released on 2012 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: The purpose of the study was to examine the acute effects of traditional sets (TS) or cluster sets (CS) on growth hormone (GH), cortisol (C), blood lactate (BL), and lower body power (LBP) in eleven resistance-trained males during hypertrophy training (HT). Session 1 determined iBM clean pull (C?), back squat (BS), and bench press. During sessions 2 and 3, C? and BS were performed using either TS or CS. Six remaining exercises were completed in two circuits of three exercises. GH, C, EL, counter-movement vertical jump (CMVJ), and standing long jump (SLJ) were measured over time for each condition. Significant differences for time (p

Book Endocrine Responses to Resistance Exercise

Download or read book Endocrine Responses to Resistance Exercise written by William J. Kraemer and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this brief review is to examine resistance training responses of selected hormones related to acute stress and growth promoting actions. Hormonal mechanisms appear to be involved with both short-term homeostatic control and long-term cellular adaptations. Few studies have modeled the exercise stimulus in resistance training to determine the role of different exercise variables to the hormonal response. A variety of resistance exercise protocols result in increases in peripheral hormonal concentrations. It appears that single factor variables such as the intensity (% of RM) of exercise and amount of muscle mass utilized in the exercise protocol are important determinants of hormonal responses. The volume of exercise, also appears to be an important determinant of hormonal response. Still, little is known with regard to other single and multiple factor variables (e.g., rest period length) and their relationships to peripheral hormonal alterations. Collectively, such information will allow greater understanding concerning the nature of the exercise stimulus and its relationship to training adaptations resulting from heavy resistance exercise. Keywords: Luteinizing hormone; Follicle stimulating hormone; Adrenal cortex; Testosterone.

Book Acute Cortisol and Testosterone Response to Resistance Exercise at Different Loads

Download or read book Acute Cortisol and Testosterone Response to Resistance Exercise at Different Loads written by Rebecca A. Kudrna and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The benefits of resistance training have been attributed in part to the acute endocrine response following exercise stimulus. While many studies have examined the acute response to resistance exercise in various forms, none have compared the endocrine response to a single repetition scheme at various work loads. The purpose of this study was to determine if a dose response relationship between resistance training load and acute endocrine response exists following an exercise protocol utilizing one repetition sets at three different exercise loads. Five male weightlifters participated in three separate trials with 100% IRM, 50% IRM, 75% IRM loads. The testing sessions, separated by 48 hours, were identical except in relative load used. Pre- and post-exercise cortisol and testosterone concentrations were measured as well as a non-exercise measure taken 48 hours after the last testing protocol. Repeated measures ANOVA were performed for cortisol and testosterone concentrations across all seven blood samples. Because of low sample size (n=5), statistically significant differences were not observed between the seven cortisol (p=0.061) or testosterone (p=0.056) samples. This may indicate that acute testosterone response to single repetition resistance exercise may not be as important as non-acute changes that occur in the 1-4 days following the exercise bout.

Book The Female Athlete Triad

    Book Details:
  • Author : Catherine M. Gordon
  • Publisher : Springer
  • Release : 2014-10-28
  • ISBN : 148997525X
  • Pages : 187 pages

Download or read book The Female Athlete Triad written by Catherine M. Gordon and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-10-28 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book of its kind to focus solely on the female athlete triad - its origins, its recognition, and most importantly, its management. Since the symptoms themselves cover a range of medical specialties, chapters are written by experts in a number of relevant fields - sports medicine, orthopedics, endocrinology, and pediatrics - with an eye toward overall care of the young female athlete. Additionally, each chapter includes suggestions on how to educate and communicate with young athletes and their parents, as well as trainers and coaches, on how to manage the illness outside of the direct clinical setting. The female athlete triad is often seen in sports where low body weight is emphasized, such as gymnastics, figure skating, and running, though it can appear in any sport or activity. The interrelated symptoms - eating disorders, amenorrhea, and low bone mass - exist on a spectrum of severity and are serious and potentially life-threatening if not properly treated. Psychological problems, in addition to medical ones, are not uncommon. The Female Athlete Triad: A Clinical Guide discusses all of these areas for a well-rounded and in-depth approach to the phenomenon and will be a useful reference for any clinician working with female athletes across the lifespan.
