Book Activity in Marx s Philosophy

Download or read book Activity in Marx s Philosophy written by Norman D. Livergood and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This essay attempts to demonstrate the significance of the principle of activity in the philosophy of Karl Marx. The principle of activity in Marx has both a general and a specific meaning. In general the princi pIe refers to the activist element in Marxian practice motivating both Marx and his contemporary devotees. The specific facet of the principle relates to Marx's philosophy - the principle of activity being that con cept which underlies the entire system. Activity for Marx is both a philosophie concept and an element of human experience demanded by his system. Marx, that is, not only theorizes about activity but also illustrates his theory in hislife. Hence, we find the principle of activity both in his writings and in his doings. Marx most often used the words Action, Tätigkeit, or Praxis to refer to the principle of activity. No major philosopher has fully dealt with the concept of action. We sometimes suppose that action only occurs when we can observe some outward result or motion. Spinoza's definition of action disallows this narrow interpretation of activity.

Book The Philosophy of Marx RLE Marxism

Download or read book The Philosophy of Marx RLE Marxism written by William Leon McBride and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-04-24 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, first published in 1977, presents for the first time a serious and systematic assessment of Marx primarily as a philosopher. It considers all major aspects of Marx’s theory – its methodology, its ontological dimensions, its approaches to the descriptions of history and of societies and their economic structures, its alleged predictions and its vision of the future – as well as some of its intellectual antecedents and twentieth-century heirs. The presentation of Marx’s ideas attempts to be at once faithful to them, as distinguished from their reinterpretations by later ‘Marxists’, and yet novel in form and language. From this unique standpoint, the book aims to bring the student of philosophy and of political ideas to a closer understanding of the intellectual foundations of Marx’s Capital and his writings in collaboration with Engels.

Book Karl Marx s Philosophy of Nature Action and Society

Download or read book Karl Marx s Philosophy of Nature Action and Society written by Justin Holt and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2009-05-27 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work analyses Marx's philosophy of nature and shows how it is the basis for his practical philosophy. Previous analysis of Marx's philosophy of nature has considered humans as only natural beings and social beings. But, Marx analyzed humans' relationship to the natural world and to themselves as natural, social, and material. This material feature of human action can server as a basis for social critique and as the foundation for a practical analysis. The first chapter of this book analyzes Marx's philosophy of nature from his early to late works and argues that humans are natural begins that use nature to develop new capacities. This consideration is central in Marx's critiques of Hegel and Feuerbach. The second chapter discusses Marx's material critique of social forms and discusses why the distinction between material action and social action is a key component of Marx critique of capitalism. This chapter also discusses industrial history, ideology, wages, justice, and valorization. The third and final chapter builds on Marx's materialist analysis to develop a standard of practical action that takes human's material activity as its basis. This chapter also discusses classical historical materialist claims, liberal ethical theories, and a practical philosophic consideration of socialism.

Book Karl Marx and the Philosophy of Praxis RLE Marxism

Download or read book Karl Marx and the Philosophy of Praxis RLE Marxism written by Gavin Kitching and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-04-17 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this major study, first published in 1988, Professor Kitching builds on recent scholarship on Marx and Wittgenstein to provide an incisive, readable account and critique of the whole of Marx’s work. He presents the philosophical, economic, and political Marx as one thinker, and argues that the key to understanding Marx is his commitment to a ‘philosophy of praxis’. This sees thought as just part of that purposive activity (or praxis) which distinguishes human beings from other creatures. This is the first book to analyse all of Marx’s thought from a Wittgenstein perspective; in doing so, it clarifies and deepens our understanding of Marx.

Download or read book Marx s Concept of Man written by Erich Fromm and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2013-10-24 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In publishing Marx's Concept of Man in 1961, Erich Fromm presented to the English-speaking world for the first time Karl Marx's then recently discovered Economic and Philosophical Manuscripts. Including the Manuscripts and many other philosophical writings by Marx as well as Fromm's own extended response, many of these writings have since become recognised as important works in their own right. Fromm stresses Marx's humanist philosophy and challenges both contemporary Western ignorance of Marx and Soviet corruptions of his work. Fromm's analysis of Marx's work and his dissemination of these neglected writings by Marx himself fundamentally altered the prevailing discourse about Marxism, revolutionising contemporary thought and providing a formative influence for the development of the New Left.

Book Karl Marx

Download or read book Karl Marx written by Keith Graham and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The work of Karl Marx is often misunderstood through misleading association with figures such as Lenin. In this new book, Marx's philosophy is examined in its own right and reassessed for its relevance to contemporary conditions. Keith Graham starts by identifying Marx's basic ideas. Reconstructing Marx's philosophical assumptions more explicitly than he did himself, the author then evaluates Marx's general view of human life and society, his specific theory of capitalism and his philosophy of change. The importance of class, Marx's materialism and his problematic relationship with morality are described and critically assessed. Arriving at a view quite different from received interpretations, Graham argues that Marx's philosophy has contemporary relevance and survives the collapse of Leninism. It is a philosophy at once more extreme and more moderate than usually thought: more extreme in rejecting all forms of commodity or market society, but more moderate in its choice of the political methods employed for the transcending of capitalism. This is a challenging interpretation of Marxism, invaluable to students and teachers of philosophy, politics, sociology and related disciplines.
