This book was released on 1996 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: LA FONCTIONNALISATION SELECTIVE DES HYDROCARBURES SATURES PAR DES SYSTEMES COMPOSES DE COMPLEXES DE FER (FE#I#I OU FE#I#I#I), D'UN ACIDE CARBOXYLIQUE ET DE PEROXYDE D'HYDROGENE DANS LA PYRIDINE (AVEC OU SANS ACIDE ACETIQUE) EST ETUDIEE DEPUIS 1983 (SYSTEMES DE GIF). L'INFLUENCE ET LA REACTIVITE DE PIEGES A RADICAUX TELS QUE LA 2-METHYL-1,4-NAPHTOQUINONE, LES DERIVES SELENIES ET SOUFRES ET LE TEMPO DANS LES DIFFERENTS SYSTEMES DE GIF ONT ETE ETUDIEES. LA CAPACITE A PIEGER CES DIFFERENTS PIEGES A RADICAUX N'EST OBTENUE QUE LORSQUE LE FE#I#I EST PRESENT DANS LA REACTION, SOIT AU DEPART, SOIT PAR REDUCTION DU FE#I#I#I PAR UN AGENT REDUCTEUR. LES RESULTATS DE CETTE ETUDE ONT PERMIS AINSI DE CONFIRMER LA PRESENCE DE DEUX COUPLES DIFFERENTS DANS LA CHIMIE DE GIF: LE COUPLE FE#I#I-FE#I#V QUI PERMET L'OBTENTION DE PRODUITS HALOGENES AVEC COMME INTERMEDIAIRE UN RADICAL ALKYLE, ET LE COUPLE FE#I#I#I-FE#V, QUI PERMET UNIQUEMENT LA FORMATION DES PRODUITS D'OXYDATION. AUCUN INTERMEDIAIRE DE TYPE RADICALAIRE N'EST PRESENT DANS LA REACTION PRODUITE PAR CE COUPLE. LE REACTIF PEROXYDE DE BIS(TRIMETHYLSILYLE) UTILISE EN PRESENCE D'UN CATALYSEUR DE FE#I#I#I ET D'UN ACIDE CARBOXYLIQUE EST CAPABLE D'OXYDER LES HYDROCARBURES SATURES MAJORITAIREMENT EN CETONES. LA REGIOSELECTIVITE ET LA CHEMIOSELECTIVITE SONT SIMILAIRES AUX SYSTEMES DE GIF UTILISANT LE PEROXYDE D'HYDROGENE COMME OXYDANT. UNE ESPECE DE FER A HAUT DEGRE D'OXYDATION EST PROPOSEE COMME ETANT RESPONSABLE DE L'ACTIVATION DE L'HYDROCARBURE. L'UTILISATION D'UN SEL DE FE#I#I COMME CATALYSEUR PERMET LA FORMATION DE DERIVES HALOGENES. LES CARACTERISTIQUES SONT SIMILAIRES A CELLES OBSERVEES LORS DE L'UTILISATION DU PEROXYDE D'HYDROGENE, AVEC COMME DIFFERENCES LA PRESENCE NON OBLIGATOIRE D'UN ACIDE CARBOXYLIQUE COMME LIGAND ET LA PLUS GRANDE STABILITE DE L'INTERMEDIAIRE RESPONSABLE DE L'ACTIVATION DE L'HYDROCARBURE

Book Faecal Sludge Management

Download or read book Faecal Sludge Management written by Linda Strande and published by IWA Publishing. This book was released on 2014-08-15 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is estimated that literally billions of residents in urban and peri-urban areas of Africa, Asia, and Latin America are served by onsite sanitation systems (e.g. various types of latrines and septic tanks). Until recently, the management of faecal sludge from these onsite systems has been grossly neglected, partially as a result of them being considered temporary solutions until sewer-based systems could be implemented. However, the perception of onsite or decentralized sanitation technologies for urban areas is gradually changing, and is increasingly being considered as long-term, sustainable options in urban areas, especially in low- and middle-income countries that lack sewer infrastructures. This is the first book dedicated to faecal sludge management. It compiles the current state of knowledge of the rapidly evolving field of faecal sludge management, and presents an integrated approach that includes technology, management, and planning based on Sandecs 20 years of experience in the field. Faecal Sludge Management: Systems Approach for Implementation and Operation addresses the organization of the entire faecal sludge management service chain, from the collection and transport of sludge, and the current state of knowledge of treatment options, to the final end use or disposal of treated sludge. The book also presents important factors to consider when evaluating and upscaling new treatment technology options. The book is designed for undergraduate and graduate students, and engineers and practitioners in the field who have some basic knowledge of environmental and/or wastewater engineering.

Book excerpt: Nanostructured materials with tailored properties are regarded as a fundamental element in the development of future science and technology. Research is still ongoing into the nanosized construction elements required to create functional solids. The recently developed technique, nanocasting, has great advantage over others in terms of the synthesis of special nanostructured materials by the careful choice of suitable elements and nanoengineering steps. This new book summarizes the recent developments in nanocasting, including the principles of nanocasting, syntheses of novel nanostructured materials, characterization methods, detailed synthetic recipes and further possible development in this area. The book focuses on the synthesis of porous solids from the viewpoint of methodology and introduces the science of nanocasting from fundamental principles to their use in synthesis of various materials. It starts by outlining the principles of nanocasting, requirements to the templates and precursors and the tools needed to probe matter at the nanoscale level. It describes how to synthesize nano structured porous solids with defined characteristics and finally discusses the functionalization and application of porous solids. Special attention is given to new developments in this field and future perspectives. A useful appendix covering the detailed synthetic recipes of various templates including porous silica, porous carbon and colloidal spheres is included which will be invaluable to researchers wanting to follow and reproduce nanocast materials. Topics covered in the book include: * inorganic chemistry * organic chemistry * solution chemistry * sol-gel and interface science * acid-base equilibria * electrochemistry * biochemistry * confined synthesis The book gives readers not only an overview of nanocasting technology, but also sufficient information and knowledge for those wanting to prepare various nanostructured materials without needing to search the available literature.

Book excerpt: This is a practical handbook providing a step-by-step approach to the techniques used for characterizing wastewater sources and investigating sites where collection, treatment and reuse/disposal technologies will be installed. It is intended to help enable local implementation of on-site and decentralized wastewater management system (DWMS)for wide scale use in development settings. How to Design Wastewater Systems for Local Conditions in Developing Countries helps local service providers and regulatory officials make informed decisions through the use of tools, checklists and case studies. It includes a link to a web based community of on-site and decentralized wastewater professionals, which contains related tools and case studies. This handbook serves as a reference for training classes, certification programs, and higher education programs in civil and sanitary engineering. There is an increasing interest on the part of local government officials and private sector service providers to implement wastewater treatment systems to solve sanitation problems. The model presented in this handbook promotes activities that first generate data related to source and site conditions that represent critical inputs, and then applies this information to the technology selection process. Matching the most appropriate technologies to the specific needs of the wastewater project is the key that leads to long term sustainability. How to Design Wastewater Systems for Local Conditions in Developing Countries is an invaluable resource for public sector decision makers and private sector service providers in developing countries. It is also a useful text for students at engineering colleges in developing countries interested in taking a class that teaches the methods of decentralized wastewater management system (DWMS) development.
