Book excerpt: Communication is not always through sound or language. Much can be said with gestures and movement of eyes. In fact, more often than not, it is the body language that 'says' more than words. Now discover all the finer points and the nuances of body language in this masterly work. How does a thumb gesture display dominance, superiority and aggression? How does dilation of eyes send a romantic signal? What does a sideways glance indicate? Given these incredible insights, the book can prove to be of immense use for professionals like advocates, doctors, policemen, judges, salesmen, politicians, judges, executives, bureaucrats and customers etc - in short, people who are essentially in public dealing. But then, it is for all, a true guide for analysing behaviour and attitudes. #v&spublishers

Book Liturgy Theurgy and Active Participation

Download or read book Liturgy Theurgy and Active Participation written by Kjetil Kringlebotten and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2023-09-08 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Providing a metaphysical grounding for liturgical participation, this book argues that “active participation” in the liturgy must be understood principally as our participation in God’s act, particularly in the act of Christ, and only secondarily as our ritual involvement. Utilizing Neoplatonist philosophy, Kjetil Kringlebotten proposes that this should be understood in terms of theurgy, which is the human participation in divine action, which finds its consummation in the incarnation of Christ. Without the incarnation all acts will remain extrinsic and imposed but acts can become real and intrinsic precisely because the incarnation makes possible true union with the divine, a metaphysical union-in-distinction, without confusion, because this union is not extrinsic. Through union with Christ, as the one common focus of the divine-human relation, we can have true union with God and may offer true worship. In order to make sense of active participation, then, we need to understand theology in theurgic terms, where theurgy is understood not as a mechanical “coercion” of God but as a participation in His act, in creation and through Christ as the true theurgist, the “master theurgist,” Whose work transforms our act and the liturgy.

Book excerpt: Wall Street Journal bestseller! For anyone who wants to be heard at work, earn that overdue promotion, or win more clients, deals, and projects, the bestselling author of Captivate, Vanessa Van Edwards, shares her advanced guide to improving professional relationships through the power of cues. What makes someone charismatic? Why do some captivate a room, while others have trouble managing a small meeting? What makes some ideas spread, while other good ones fall by the wayside? If you have ever been interrupted in meetings, overlooked for career opportunities or had your ideas ignored, your cues may be the problem – and the solution. Cues – the tiny signals we send to others 24/7 through our body language, facial expressions, word choice, and vocal inflection – have a massive impact on how we, and our ideas, come across. Our cues can either enhance our message or undermine it. In this entertaining and accessible guide to the hidden language of cues, Vanessa Van Edwards teaches you how to convey power, trust, leadership, likeability, and charisma in every interaction. You’ll learn: • Which body language cues assert, “I’m a leader, and here’s why you should join me.” • Which vocal cues make you sound more confident • Which verbal cues to use in your résumé, branding, and emails to increase trust (and generate excitement about interacting with you.) • Which visual cues you are sending in your profile pictures, clothing, and professional brand. Whether you're pitching an investment, negotiating a job offer, or having a tough conversation with a colleague, cues can help you improve your relationships, express empathy, and create meaningful connections with lasting impact. This is an indispensable guide for entrepreneurs, team leaders, young professionals, and anyone who wants to be more influential.

Book excerpt: Commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of the promulgation of The Roman Missal (1970), With One Spirit embarks on a significant investigation into the history of this text and the principles that impacted its development. In particular, Lamberts examines whether and how The Roman Missal encourages the active participation of the faithful in the liturgy demanded by the Second Vatican Council. Considering this pastoral and theological context, With One Spirit offers a commentary of the possibilities and limitations of the Missal's encouragement of active participation, and formulates suggestions and improvements to realize true communal Eucharistic celebrations.

Book The Art of Foreign Language Teaching

Download or read book The Art of Foreign Language Teaching written by Peter Lutzker and published by Narr Francke Attempto Verlag. This book was released on 2022-01-31 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first edition of this work became a standard reference work in the general context of humanistic approaches to foreign language teaching and learning. This new edition gives a brief overview of further developments in relevant fields and discusses the importance of the concept of teaching as an art in light of the increasing standardization and digitalization of education. Reviews of the 1st edition I believe that the book will become a standard reference point for all those who, against the current tide of 'scientific', objectives-based, test-oriented, control-obsessed, sterile approaches to language teaching, continue to believe that language teaching is indeed an art, and a joyful art at that. Prof. Dr. Alan Maley in English Language Teaching Journal Peter Lutzker is a major educational thinker and has spent half an earthly span living towards this major book. (...) I have placed Peter's book on my shelves next to those of Rogers, Curran, Dufeu and Stevick. Mario Rinvolucri in Humanising Language Teaching
