Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Bullies Victims and Bystanders

Download or read book Bullies Victims and Bystanders written by Lisa H. Rosen and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-10-01 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses beyond the bully-victim dyad to highlight how bullying commonly unfolds within a complex system that involves many individuals interacting with one another. As the vast majority of bullying episodes occur in front of a peer audience, this book examines the ways in which bystanders can act to either fuel or deter bullying. Each chapter highlights a particular participant role: bully, assistant, reinforcer, outsider, defender, and victim. Attention is also devoted to the important influence parents and teachers have on the peer ecology and bullying dynamics. By viewing bullying through the eyes of each individual role, the authors provide an in-depth exploration of bullying as a group process with special attention to implications for prevention and intervention. This book refreshes and expands our understanding of bullying as a group process by highlighting classic research while integrating new findings with attention to changing technology and the modernization of our society. It provides a unique resource that will appeal to teachers and educational psychologists in addition to researchers in the areas of psychology, public health, and education.

Download or read book Bullying written by José Ramón Ubieto and published by NED Ediciones. This book was released on 2016-01-15 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book School Bullying and Mental Health

Download or read book School Bullying and Mental Health written by Helen Cowie and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-20 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bullying amongst young people is a serious and pervasive problem, and recent rapid advances in electronic communication technologies have provided even more tools for bullies to exploit. School Bullying and Mental Health collates current research evidence and theoretical perspectives about school bullying in one comprehensive volume, identifying the nature and extent of bullying and cyberbullying at school, as well as its impact on children and young people’s emotional health and well-being. There are many negative consequences of bullying, and children and young people who have been victimised often suffer long-term psychological problems, such as increased levels of anxiety, depressive symptoms, social isolation, loneliness and suicidal ideation. Perpetrators of bullying also have a heightened risk of experiencing problems such as anxiety and depression, as well as eating disorders and antisocial behaviour. Founded on rigorous academic research, this important book tackles the negative consequences of bullying, and bullying culture itself, by examining the social and cultural contexts that perpetuate such behaviour from childhood through adolescence and potentially into adulthood. Containing contributions from an international team of authors, this book explores current interventions to prevent and reduce school bullying and to alleviate its negative effects on the mental health of children and young people. In-depth discussion of the profound implications of this research for researchers, practitioners and policymakers makes this book essential reading for those interested in bullying culture and the mental health and well-being of children and adolescents.

Book Understanding and Addressing Bullying

Download or read book Understanding and Addressing Bullying written by Debra Pepler and published by Author House. This book was released on 2008-05-27 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: PREVNet (Promoting Relationships and Eliminating Violence Network) brings together leading researchers, community organizations, industry and government, funded by the Networks of Centres of Excellence. Launched in 2006, PREVNet’s mission is to stop bullying and promote safe and healthy relationships for all Canadian children and youth. Led by Dr. Wendy Craig of Queen’s University and Dr. Debra Pepler of York University, this national network provides an unprecedented opportunity for social innovation and social-cultural change. In this first volume of the PREVNet Series, we enlist the support of international colleagues to highlight the nature of bullying problems and strategies to address them. In June 2007, a group of international researchers met in Kandersteg, Switzerland to develop a declaration, pledging long-term commitment to prevent bullying and promote healthy relationships. Many of these international scholars have contributed their freshest research findings to this first volume of the PREVNet Series. Their chapters provide understanding and guidance to help the reader respond to the Kandersteg Declaration’s call to action: “Today, an estimated 200 million children and youth around the world are being abused by their peers. Every child and youth has the right to be respected and safe. Bullying is a violation of this basic human right. It is the moral responsibility of adults to ensure these rights are honoured and that healthy development and citizenship are promoted.” It is essential to: • Stop bullying in all the places where children and youth live, learn, and play. • Start prevention efforts early and continue these through childhood and adolescence, targeting known risk and protective factors and promoting healthy relationships. • Educate and empower all adults involved with children and youth to promote healthy relationships and prevent bullying. (Kandersteg Declaration, 2007)

Book Marginalisation and Aggression from Bullying to Genocide

Download or read book Marginalisation and Aggression from Bullying to Genocide written by Stephen James Minton and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-09-26 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, the author proposes the existence of a continuum of aggressive marginalisation phenomena, ranging from the unfortunately commonplace experiences of prejudice, discrimination and bullying behaviour, through to genocide. Attempts made by researchers and practitioners to understand, counter and prevent bullying behaviour are reviewed. A key finding has been that the success that has been accrued has been limited, especially when the case of those who belong to so-called ‘minority’ groups (who are often the target of prejudice outside of the school gates) is considered; it is suggested that future anti-bullying actions should meaningfully engage with prejudice as an underlying factor. After a critical consideration of the various psychological understandings of aggression, aggressive behaviour and marginalisation has been made, the author goes on to introduce and assess an eight-stage model of physical genocide, based primarily on insights from social cognitive psychology, and exemplified in the history of the Lakota-Cheyenne Campaign (1864–1890). This is followed by a consideration of the cultural genocide levelled against indigenous peoples (exemplified in the Sami people in Norway, and indigenous peoples of North America), as implemented through the actions of educational systems and educators. The book ends with some suggestions being made regarding our potential to address the ‘One’ and ‘Other’ mindset that is proposed as underlying the continuum of aggressive marginalisation phenomena – through the psychological understandings that we can offer, the educational practice that we can provide, and in the conscious acts of the affirmation of humanity we can make in our individual and collective choices. Stephen James Minton is a lecturer in the psychology of education at the School of Education, Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. He has extensive experience in the fields of anti-bullying research and practice, and is interested in the histories and psychosocial situations, and especially the educational experiences, of marginalised people and groups.
