Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the emerging field of proteomics continues to expand at an extremely rapid rate, the relative quantification of proteins, targeted by their function, becomes its greatest challenge. Complex analytical strategies have been designed that allow comparative analysis of large proteomes, as well as in depth detection of the core proteome or the interaction network of a given protein of interest. In Functional Proteomics: Methods and Protocols, expert researchers describe the latest protocols being developed to address the problems encountered in high-throughput proteomics projects, with emphasis on the factors governing the technical choices for given applications. The case studies within the volume focus on the following three crucial aspects of the experimental design: 1) the strategy used for the selection, purification and preparation of the sample to be analyzed by mass spectrometry, 2) the type of mass spectrometer used and the type of data to be obtained from it, and 3) the method used for the interpretation of the mass spectrometry data and the search engine used for the identification of the proteins in the different types of sequence data banks available. As a part of the highly successful Methods in Molecular BiologyTM series, the chapters compile step-by-step, readily reproducible laboratory protocols, lists of the necessary materials and reagents, and tips on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls. Comprehensive and cutting-edge, Functional Proteomics: Methods and Protocols is an ideal resource for all scientists pursuing this developing field and its multitudinous data.

Book Methods in Protein Structure Analysis

Download or read book Methods in Protein Structure Analysis written by M. Zouhair Atassi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The MPSA international conference is held in a different country every two years. It is devoted to methods of determining protein structure with emphasis on chemistry and sequence analysis. Until the ninth conference, MPSA was an acronym for Methods in Protein Sequence Analysis. To give the conference more flexibility and breadth, the Scientific Advisory Committee of the lOth MPSA decided to change the name to Methods in Protein Structure Analysis; however, the emphasis remains on "methods" and on "chemistry. " In fact, this is the only major conference that is devoted to methods. The MPSA conference is truly international, a fact clearly reflected by the composi tion of its Scientific Advisory Committee. The Scientific Advisory Committee oversees the scientific direction of the MPSA and elects the chairman of the conference. Members of the committee are elected by active members, based on scientific standing and activity. The chairman, subject to approval of the Scientific Advisory Committee, appoints the Organizing Committee. It is this latter committee that puts the conference together. The lectures of the MPSA have traditionally been published in a special proceedings issue. This is different from, and more detailed than, the special MPSA issue of the Journal of Protein Chemistry in which only a brief description of the talks is given in short papers and abstracts. In the I Oth MPSA, about half the talks are by invited speakers and the remainder were selected from submitted short papers and abstracts.

Book Real Time Analysis of Biomolecular Interactions

Download or read book Real Time Analysis of Biomolecular Interactions written by K. Nagata and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-11 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The metabolism of all living organisms consists of elaborate and complex interactions among numbers of biomolecules, including protein-protein interactions. BIACORE is a new device that uses surface plasmon resonance for kinetic analysis of molecular interactions and automates whole analytical processes. The number of users of BIACORE is increasing worldwide, but until now nothing had been published in English to explain the principles of this new methodology and the kinds of applications it makes available. This updated and revised version of the Japanese original explains the underlying principles of BIACORE, providing concrete examples that utilize the methodology for analysis in areas ranging from basic to applied sciences. With its generous use of illustrations, this book is a valuable source of information for all users of BIACORE.
