Download or read book Chemistry and Biology of the Kallikrein kinin System in Health and Disease written by John J. Pisano and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 652 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The diversity and significance of recent research on the kallikrein-kinin system provided the impetus for this international conference, the purpose of which was the assessment of our knowledge and the development of a base from which to plan future research. Through the generous support of the Fogarty International Center and of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, the Organizing Committee was able to bring together authorities in virtually every aspect of kinin research. The kallikrein-kinin field was divided into three major areas: A) Characterization and assays of components of the kallikrein-kinin systems; B) Interacting systems: Fibrinolysis, complement, coagulation, and prostaglandins; and C) Physiological, pathological, and clinical significance. Invited experts were instructed to present concise critical reviews along with any new data. Time was a)so provided for discussants to present relevant comments and data. Selected discussions accompany the keynote reports, and these comprise the short chapters.

Download or read book Kinins written by Federigo Sicuteri and published by Springer. This book was released on 1976-05 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In particular, we mourne the death of Professor E. Werle, one of the most outstanding pioneers in the field of the kallikrein-kinin system. His friendship, participation and counsel was, and will continue to be, sorely missed by his many colleagues and students who are indebted to him for his voluminous and scientifically expert contributions continued until the very end of his most full and productive life. As in the past, the atmosphere of friendship and relaxation of the Symposium enhanced the very useful communication and exchange of ideas and information amongst the participants. This volume contains the collection of studies presented at Fiesole which provide the most recent and progressive advances in the biochemistry, pharmacology, and clinical aspects of the kinins.

Download or read book Molecular and Cellular Aspects of Reproduction written by Dharam S. Dhindsa and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-11-10 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recently, considerable attention has been focused on studies of membrane structure and function--involvement of cell surface components in intercellular interaction, in translocation of ligands and receptors across cell membranes, and in the immunological properties of cells and gene expression and regulation. These investigations have led to the development of powerful technical tools which can be of immense value in the study of animal and human reproduction. The investigations of problems such as gamete interaction, fertilization, embryo implantation, and development have reached a stage where further meaningful progress in their understanding does not seem likely unless the conventional approaches are coupled with more modern molecular and cellular techniques. Furthermore, 1t is only through such basic studies that potential means of fertility regulation will emerge. The various physiological events in animal reproduction such as fertilization and implantation essentially involve an interaction between specific cell membrane components. Similarly, embryogenesis involves the expression and regulation of genes at various stages of development. Therefore, the entire Workshop was specifically devoted to two topics: 1) Structure, function, and biosynthesis of membrane components, and 2) Gene expression and regulation as related to animal reproduction. The presentations relating to each topic are presented in separate sections in this book.

Download or read book Kinins V written by K. Abe and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-18 with total page 648 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The physiological and pathological significance of the kallikrein-kinin system was recently explored extensively, resulting in a rapid accumulation of information regarding their potential importance. This publication provides an integrated picture of the latest information on the kallikrein kinin system. It contains contributions from morphologists, geneticists, biochemists, pharmacologists, physiologists, and clinicians. The Fifth International Kinin Congress (Nov. 29-Dec. 3, 1987) provided a forum for the exchange of information and ideas on the kallikrein-kinin system. The participation of more than 350 scientists from 23 countries reflects the widespread interest and international scope of research activity in the physiological and pathological functions of the kallikrein-kinin system. A total of 275 papers including posters were presented, attesting to the unquestioned success of this Congress. These proceedings, in two volumes, contain the collective studies presented, studies of high scientific standard that provoked stimulating and fruitful discussions. Also included in these volumes are the two plenary lectures presented by Dr. H.A. Margolius (USA) and Dr. S. Nakanishi (Japan). During the last decade our knowledge of the role of the kallikrein kinin system in health and disease has been greatly advanced by the develop ment of antagonists to bradykinin and the introduction to clinical practice of converting enzyme inhibitors. Symposia on converting enzyme and on recent advances in research on the kallikrein-kinin system are included in the proceedings.
