Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Two lifelong friends decide to trade places the week before Christmas and end up finding love along the way in this delightful novel from the queen of holiday stories, #1 New York Times bestselling author Debbie Macomber. Peter Armstrong and Hank Colfax are best friends, but their lives couldn’t be more different. Peter, the local pastor who is dedicated to his community, spending time visiting the flock, attending meetings, and, with the holiday season approaching, preparing for the Christmas service and live nativity. As a bartender, Hank serves a much different customer base at his family-owned tavern, including a handful of lonely regulars and the local biker gang. When Peter scoffs that Hank has it easy compared to him, the two decide to switch jobs until Christmas Eve. To their surprise, the responsibilities of a bartender and a pastor are similar, but taking on the other’s work is more difficult than either Peter or Hank expected. As the two begin to see each other in a new light—and each discovers a new love to cherish—their lives are forever changed. In The Christmas Spirit, Debbie Macomber celebrates the true meaning of the holidays and the inclusive community spirit that binds us all.

In these moments of no boundaries, Abbys body is the pawn and each violation is stored in a place that cannot be recalled. Not knowing the secrets held in the deep corners of her mind, Abby creates normal out of chaos. She doesnt understand what is driving her choices, but she will take you to the joy and nostalgia of childhood in the 1950s. She will grab your heart and turn yourworld upside down as you witness innocence celebrated and violated. "Spirit Unbroken" honors the wonder and beauty of resilient personal spirit. Thrust from lascivious, cold power back into childhood, Abby warmed her innocence by being a good girl. She had a smile for everyone. Powerful and unsettling, this story held me captive. LM

Book excerpt: This is the first book to comprehensively examine the development of English-Canadian cinema since 1980; previous books in English have dealt either with specific films or filmmakers, with policy, or with specific genres (avant-garde film, documentary, films by women, etc.). It deals with regional and institutional questions, with the new authors that are defining contemporary cinema in English Canada, with avant-garde work and work by Aboriginal people. Bringing together a wide variety of contributors, the book deals with an enormous amount of cinema that has helped transform North American culture of the last two decades.

Book Holiday Stories Volume 1

Download or read book Holiday Stories Volume 1 written by Ronald L. Shank and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2006-02-20 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It all started back in 1995, shortly before Christmas. I felt inspired to write a Christmas story, so I did. In all truthfulness it tore me up to write it, because my vision was not limited to my words. It made me remember what Christmas was really all about. At that time I decided to write a story each year for Christmas and give copies out as gifts. Each year the recipients of my stories would encourage me to publish them, ten years later I now have enough stories, and lack reasons not to. So I offer a collection of what I call for lack of a better title ‘Holiday Stories’. They carry a decided Christian slant and hopefully give reason to be thankful. Hopefully they bring as much joy as sadness, and a lot of thought moments. It’s difficult, to say the least, to try to describe this mixed bag of stories, especially when you know its only through the help of the Lord that the ideas and stories came into being. There is a similar central theme to many of the stories. There is that common thread of spirituality in the message of each story. The stories all are to bring a remembrance of Jesus Christ and what he did for sinful humankind. The stories are to illustrate a higher and purer love in sacrificial action in a world that we are all too familiar with. I hope you will enjoy these stories as much as I enjoyed writing them. And I pray the Lord that my words will convey the vision that I was granted when I wrote them.

Fate, You Are On My Bad Side You have got to be kidding me! On a night like this, when most sane people are home to escape a blinding snowstorm, I happen to run into Millbrook's biggest jerk, Nathaniel Peck, the boy who broke my heart at my junior prom. The one who kissed me on a dare and let his buddies laugh at me. Well, eat dirt, Nathaniel Peck, because you might have noticed me on the covers of a few magazines under the heading: Supermodel. I live in New York City now. I will be leaving as soon as the weather clears. And frankly, if it were a choice between kissing you or braving downed electrical wires, I'd have to think about it. It's official: I've regressed. It's just that I can't stand the Cult of Nathaniel Peck that has come over this town. Okay, so he is Chief of Police. So he did make sure I got home safely. So he didn't try anything funny with me. So that old smirk has been replaced by a sexy, sad smile. . . No. People just do not change that much. Somewhere inside Nate is the same leering, conniving womanizer I remember. And I intend to prove it. . .

Book Why Is Life So Confusing

Download or read book Why Is Life So Confusing written by Eileen Pierre and published by Strategic Book Publishing. This book was released on 2009-02-01 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abby walked around the side of the house where her grandmother could not see her from inside. She would stay there for the rest of the day until Grand-mama came out calling for her, and then she would not answer. Grand-mama would think that she had run away and would be sorry. That plan failed about thirty minutes later when Abby began to feel hungry. It was well after noon, and she had not eaten anything since breadfast. Mrs. Wheeler came to visit mid-morning, and that is when everything went bad. A warm story that teaches many life lessons in a wonderful and easy to understand way.
