Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There was a time, not so long ago, when the blessed truth of Justification was one of the best known doctrines of the Christian faith, when it was regularly expounded by the preachers, and when the rank and file of church-goers were familiar with its leading aspects. But now, alas, a generation has arisen which is well-nigh totally ignorant of this precious theme, for with very rare exceptions it is no longer given a place in the pulpit, nor is scarcely anything written thereon in the religious magazines of our day; and, in consequence, comparatively few understand what the term itself connotes, still less are they clear as to the ground on which God justifies the ungodly

Book Justification by Faith Alone

Download or read book Justification by Faith Alone written by John Eedes and published by Puritan Publications. This book was released on 2014-03-02 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Being concerning with the state of theology in his day surrounding justification being sorely abused, Eedes took great pains to write carefully and almost exhaustively about the biblical doctrine of justification by faith alone. He takes to task Mr. Erye, Mr. Woodbridge and Mr. Baxter on their deviant writings concerning the doctrine, and thoughtfully sets down the Bible’s teaching in accordance with orthodox Christianity. Eedes shows that justification by faith alone is not a physical act, but a judicial act. Justification is not by inherent righteousness, but God as judge in the court of mercy by judicial declaration remits sin to the believer through Christ’s merits, and absolves the sinner repenting, and believing. He masterfully refutes Antinomianism, Arminianism, Roman Catholicism and the new divinity of Richard Baxter on this point of doctrine. His aim is to press Christians not to be confounded on this foundational point of theology, but to embrace the truth and follow it in order to attain salvation found only through the merits of Jesus Christ. There is no doubt that this is one of the best treatments of justification by faith alone in print from any age in church history. Its usefulness today is without question knowing that so many professing Christians have no idea how to define or explain this crucial doctrine. Here Mr. Eedes will be of the utmost help. This is not a scan or facsimile, has been updated in modern English for easy reading and has an active table of contents for electronic versions.

Book The Doctrine of Conversion

Download or read book The Doctrine of Conversion written by Nathaniel Vincent and published by Puritan Publications. This book was released on 2012-08-16 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this penetrating treatise, Vincent teaches how conversion takes place as it is applied from Ezekiel 33:11, “Turn ye, turn ye, from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?” Vincent exhorts the reader from the very beginning, “As soon as you have looked on to this book, immediately look off again and look up to heaven! How can you see to read without any profit, unless the Father of lights opens your eyes and gives you an understanding heart?” He divides this treatise into three key doctrines about conversion, applies uses of the doctrine, and demonstrates the differences between true and false conversion. This is a simple but piercing discourse on the conversion of a sinner and is a helpful aid to gaze into God’s mysterious work of regeneration on his chosen people; while at the same time, it is an alarm for unconverted sinners to repent and believe the Gospel. This work is not a scan or facsimile, has been carefully transcribed by hand being made easy to read in modern English, and has an active table of contents for electronic versions.
