Download or read book Contemporary Identity and Memory in the Borderlands of Poland and Germany written by Aleksandra Binicewicz and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2018-09-30 with total page 572 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book analyses issues associated with the contemporary and memory in the Polish-German borderlands – a complex, multidimensional cultural and geographic area. The first section of the book, which focuses on contemporary issues, is divided into three parts: namely, a theoretical body, records of conversations with the inhabitants of the borderlands who are engaged in social activities, and records of workshops and conversations that brought together teenage inhabitants of the borderlands. Close cooperation with the inhabitants of two borderland towns resulted in several interesting perspectives on the borderlands, which are seen as a physical space, as well as a mental, intimate, close, and sometimes frustrating space subject to micro- and macro-scale transformations. In this book, the borderlands are viewed from these two perspectives. The micro-scale, is marked out by the individual experience of the inhabitants of the borderlands, and the macro-scale by the institutional framework established for the purpose of constructing an integrated community on the border.
Download or read book LITWA written by Jerzy Dargiewicz and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014 with total page 807 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is about history of Lithuania and Russia in Medieval Ages, about writing chronicles, and meanings of words used at the time. It is an analysis of over 30 volumes of the Full Collection of Russian Chronicles, that dates back to 855 A.D. The chronicles in Medieval Ages were written in Slavic using Cyrillic alphabet by monks of the Russian Orthodox Church and in Old German and Medieval Latin by monks of the Teutonic Order. Full texts from Lithuanian in Old Belorussian tongue and excerpts in translations from Russian and Teutonic are included. The book starts in 13th century Lithuania—the time Lithuania emerged as state. The analysis of chronicles takes its reader through said above records made by Russian Orthodox monks (855 - 1453 A.D.), and to records and documents made by Catholics—Teutons and Poles (1191 - 1434 A.D.), Lithuanian (1345 - 1446), and ends with remarks about errors in dictionaries. The book describes the order in which chronicles were copied and therefore contains solutions to unsolved problems of sequence. The book contains graphs, tables, maps, that clarify explanations, a dictionary with almost 2200 entries and an Indices of Names, Tribes, Geographical Places, in which the Author provided extended information about the people, tribes, and places.

Download or read book Poland and Spain in Contemporary World written by Malgorzata Mizerska-Wrotkowska and published by SCHEDAS. This book was released on 2014-08-01 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the present collection, individual authors address both the question of relations between Poland and Spain and issues related to the role of both countries in international relations, especially in European politics. This initiative is a valuable one, particularly since the literature on this subject, both Polish and international especially – pays little attention to these two countries (and in particular relations between them). This is all the more surprising as both are among the six largest countries of Europe. A further major strength of this publication is its pairing of several texts that though on similar subjects, view those subjects from different perspectives. This pairing approach is taken on the topics of security policy, economic crisis, Polish refugees in Spain and Spanish refugees in Poland and the foreign policies of both countries. The articles themselves are concise, factual, devoid of digression and edited in accordance with the principles of academic literature. This book should be an interesting read for political scientists, scholars of European studies, international relations analysts, as well as students of Iberian studies.
Download or read book The Politicization of Social Divisions in Post War Poland written by Piotr Borowiec and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-02-16 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The monograph examines the sources of Polish social divisions. It explains their emergence and discusses the mechanisms behind their evolution from 1945-2022. The findings corroborate the idea that divisions were formed irrespective of the current state of social hierarchy, or the accepted interpretation of justice, and that they existed both in totalitarian and democratic systems alike. The book distinguishes the category of divisions from the practices of repartition, and demonstrates that the repartitions discussed in a political discourse do not generate divisions, but constitute the politicization of the latter. Repartitions are understood as discursive, dichotomic juxtapositions that result from the existence of divisions and can be used as political tools. It has been demonstrated that they can also function as analytical categories used with a view to determining the state of social inequalities. The notions of divisions and repartitions discussed in this volume confirm the existence of the continuity of changes and describe the evolution of Polish society has a consequence.

Download or read book Poland s Kin State Policies written by Andreea Udrea and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-09-05 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The increased engagement of states with their co-ethnics abroad has recently become one of the most contentious features of European politics. Until recently, the issue has been discussed predominantly within the paradigm of international security; yet a review of the broader European picture shows that kin-state engagement can in fact have a positive societal impact when it actually responds effectively to the claims formulated by co-ethnic communities themselves. Poland's Kin-State Policies: Opportunities and Challenges offers new insights into this issue by examining Poland’s fast-evolving relationship with Polish communities living beyond its borders. Its central focus is the Act on the Polish Card (generally known as Karta Polaka). Tracing policymaking processes and the underlying political agendas that have shaped them, the volume situates Poland’s engagement within broader conceptual and normative debates around kin-state and diaspora politics and explores its reception and impact in neighbouring states (Ukraine, Germany, Lithuania). The volume highlights how the issue of co-ethnics abroad is increasingly being instrumentalised, most especially for the purposes of attracting labour migration to resolve the demographic crisis in Poland. The chapters in this book were originally published as a special issue of Ethnopolitics.
