Book Growth in a Time of Change

Download or read book Growth in a Time of Change written by Hyeon-Wook Kim and published by Brookings Institution Press. This book was released on 2020-02-25 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Growth in a Time of Change: Global and Country Perspectives on a New Agenda is the first of a two-book research project that addresses new issues and challenges for economic growth arising from ongoing significant change in the world economy, focusing especially on technological transformation. The project is a collaboration between the Brookings Institution and the Korea Development Institute. Part I of the book looks at key elements of change from a global perspective. It analyzes how technological change, shifts in investment, and demographic transition are affecting potential economic growth globally and across major groups of economies. The contributors explore possible scenarios for the global economy as the digital revolution drives rapid technological change, including impacts on growth, jobs, income distribution, trade balances, and capital flows. Technology is changing the global configuration of comparative advantage and globalization increasingly has a digital dimension. The implications of these developments for the future of sectors such as manufacturing and for international trade are assessed. Part II of the book addresses new issues in the growth agenda from the perspective of an individual major economy: South Korea. The chapters in this section analyze how macroeconomic developments and technological change are influencing the behavior of households and firms in terms of their decisions to consume, save, and invest. Rising income and wealth inequalities are a major concern globally. Against this backdrop, trends in the labor income share and wage inequalities in South Korea are analyzed in terms of the role played by technology, industrial concentration, shifts in labor demand and supply, and other factors. Throughout the book, the contributors, in their analysis of both global and Korea-specific trends and prospects, place emphasis on drawing implications for policy.

Book excerpt: This book takes the reader through the whole gamut of what it means to experience a change in times and season. In the introduction, we have examples written in the bible of people who experienced changes in times and seasons. That the change will come is a given one way or the order, how it will come not be predetermined, but what kind you will be is what this book is all about since it is somewhat dependent on you. What will be will be is a fatalistic statement. You may not know when it will be, but you should what 'it' is.The introduction is full of incidences in the bible of people who experienced a change of times and season to show that this is virtually inevitable. Things changes, but here we are being prepared to ride the wave of the divine change that is coming so that rather being swept under we will go up.There are three basic LAWS that the author says will determine what kind of change of season is experienced: Diligence, Holiness, and Motivation. In clear terms these were laid out so that we are not just informed but spurred into right action, and if we are going in the wrong direction, to experience course correction. Everything is laced with scriptures. The law of diligence deals with practical issues of vision, timing, and pressure; the law of holiness deals with the moral issues of having the right kinds of behaviours: avoiding idolatry, practising obedience and prayer. And the law of Motivation deals with your attitude, why you do what you do: Humility (view of yourself), trust (view of God) and knowledge (for inward transformation). It is a concentrated discuss. You may need to pause, to ponder, to think, at intervals. It is expected that the information available in this book will give you clarity on issues affecting the right change that you seek. You are to see the hindrance on your way from what is to what can be.You should make up your mind today to ensure that nothing stops you. Let the words x-ray you and you should make some amends. Allow the words written here to reset you. And it may reassure you that you are on the right path; that it is a matter of time and your divine possibilities will be fully expressed. We are led from one season of glory to the other, from one season to any another, as we yield, as we obey, as we run the race set before us.

Download or read book Still Time to Care written by Greg Johnson and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2021-12-07 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the start of the gay rights movement in 1969, evangelicalism's leading voices cast a vision for gay people who turn to Jesus. It was C.S. Lewis, Billy Graham, Francis Schaeffer and John Stott who were among the most respected leaders within theologically orthodox Protestantism. We see with them a positive pastoral approach toward gay people, an approach that viewed homosexuality as a fallen condition experienced by some Christians who needed care more than cure. With the birth and rise of the ex-gay movement, the focus shifted from care to cure. As a result, there are an estimated 700,000 people alive today who underwent conversion therapy in the United States alone. Many of these patients were treated by faith-based, testimony-driven parachurch ministries centered on the ex-gay script. Despite the best of intentions, the movement ended with very troubling results. Yet the ex-gay movement died not because it had the wrong sex ethic. It died because it was founded on a practice that diminished the beauty of the gospel. Yet even after the closure of the ex-gay umbrella organization Exodus International in 2013, the ex-gay script continues to walk about as the undead among us, pressuring people like me to say, "I used to be gay, but I'm not gay anymore. Now I'm just same-sex attracted." For orthodox Christians, the way forward is a path back to where we were forty years ago. It is time again to focus with our Neo-Evangelical fathers on care--not cure--for our non-straight sisters and brothers who are living lives of costly obedience to Jesus. With warmth and humor as well as original research, Still Time to Care will chart the path forward for our churches and ministries in providing care. It will provide guidance for the gay person who hears the gospel and finds themselves smitten by the life-giving call of Jesus. Woven throughout the book will be Richard Lovelace’s 1978 call for a "double repentance" in which gay Christians repent of their homosexual sins and the church repents of its homophobia--putting on display for all the power of the gospel.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christian Merrane has always been outgoing, popular, and adventurous. For as long as he can remember, his spirit has been one to force him into constant motion. He had always been curious to learn and fearless to accept any challenge. Throughout his life, he searched to find the answers he knew were kept hidden from him to define his place in the world, but in his efforts to learn his purpose, he often found himself facing reprimand for the daring actions he took to prove himself. Now facing those same unanswered questions he's always kept hidden within him as he approaches becoming an adult member of society, Christian finds alternative means to subdue the driving forces compelling him to act--means that lead him away from his true purpose in life--that is, until he is forced to face the one thing he fears the most. As he suffers through a loss he never could have prepared himself to endure, Christian finds himself on the edge of two paths--one that will lead him on a path of self-destruction and the other toward a path that will open his eyes and his heart to the answers he's been seeking. Although he faces influences pulling him away from who he is intended to be, others enter his life in the moments he needs them the most to combat the forces against him. And although help is within his reach, it is up to Christian to decide which road he travels.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An eye-opening handbook from a leading Ayurvedic physician that blends cutting-edge science on "clock genes" with ancient eastern wisdom to help us understand how to harness the power of chronobiology to effortlessly lose weight, sleep better, exercise stronger, reduce stress, and boost our wellbeing. "It’s not you, it’s your schedule." Does it sound like magic? It’s not. We’ve all heard of circadian rhythms—those biological processes that give us jet lag and make us night owls or early birds. But few of us know just how profoundly these diurnal patterns affect our overall health. Bad habits like skipping meals, squeezing in workouts when it’s convenient, working late into the night to maximize productivity and then trying to "catch up" on sleep during the weekend disrupt our natural cycles. A growing body of research on chronobiology reveals just how sensitive the human body is to these rhythms all the way down to the genetic level. Our "clock genes" control more than we realize, and small changes can make the difference between battling our bodies, and effortlessly managing weight, sleep, stress, inflammation, and more. Marrying ancient Ayurvedic wisdom with the latest scientific research, Dr. Suhas Kshirsagar’s holistic step-by-step 30-day plan gives you the tools—and the schedule—you need to transform your life. With diagnostic quizzes to determine your specific mind-body type, you will learn to adapt you schedule for effortless wellness for life.
