Book The Theoretical Lateral Motions of an Automatically Controlled Airplane Subjected to a Yawing moment Disturbance

Download or read book The Theoretical Lateral Motions of an Automatically Controlled Airplane Subjected to a Yawing moment Disturbance written by Frederick H. Imlay and published by . This book was released on 1941 with total page 546 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The lateral motion resulting from a disturbance of the type produced by asymmetric loss of thrust has been determined for a hypothetical average airplane equipped with an automatic pilot. Plots of the resultant motion and the various modes that constitute the motion are presented for controls fixed and for various amounts of automatic control. The automatic control is assumed to be of a type that produces aileron deflections proportional to the angle of bank and rudder deflections proportional to the angle of azimuth. The use of an automatic control may introduce either of two modes. The first mode is primarily a rolling oscillation; the second is a poorly damped long-period oscillation in azimuth and bank . The motion following any change in trim causes the airplane to reach a state of equilibrium on a different flight heading from that existing before the disturbance and the airplane assumes a new flight attitude.

Book A Theoretical Analysis of the Effect of Time Lag in an Automatic Stabilization System on the Lateral Oscillatory Stability of an Airplane

Download or read book A Theoretical Analysis of the Effect of Time Lag in an Automatic Stabilization System on the Lateral Oscillatory Stability of an Airplane written by Leonard Sternfield and published by . This book was released on 1950 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method is presented for determining the effect of time lag in an automatic stabilization system on the lateral oscillatory stability of an airplane. The method is applied to a typical present-day airplane equipped with an automatic pilot sensitive to yawing acceleration and geared to the rudder so that rudder control is application in proportion to the yawing acceleration.

Book Airplane Stability and Control

Download or read book Airplane Stability and Control written by Malcolm J. Abzug and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2002-09-23 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the early machines to today's sophisticated aircraft, stability and control have always been crucial considerations. In this second edition, Abzug and Larrabee again forge through the history of aviation technologies to present an informal history of the personalities and the events, the art and the science of airplane stability and control. The book includes never-before-available impressions of those active in the field, from pre-Wright brothers airplane and glider builders through to contemporary aircraft designers. Arranged thematically, the book deals with early developments, research centers, the effects of power on stability and control, the discovery of inertial coupling, the challenge of stealth aerodynamics, a look toward the future, and much more. It is profusely illustrated with photographs and figures, and includes brief biographies of noted stability and control figures along with a core bibliography. Professionals, students, and aviation enthusiasts alike will appreciate this readable history of airplane stability and control.

Book A Survey of Stability Analysis Techniques for Automatically Controlled Aircraft

Download or read book A Survey of Stability Analysis Techniques for Automatically Controlled Aircraft written by Arthur L. Jones and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A survey of the stability analysis techniques for automatically controlled aircraft is presented. The survey is limited to techniques commonly applied to linear, continuous-control systems wherein the difference between the output and input quantities is measured continuously and is used in the operation of the system (a closed-loop system). An evaluation of the techniques, based on the kind and amount of information derivable, is included. An illustrative example is also presented to demonstrate the calculations involved for a typical aircraft-autopilot combination.
