Book Proactive Images for Pre Service Teachers

Download or read book Proactive Images for Pre Service Teachers written by Jeremy Delamarter and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-03-23 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides tools to help pre-service teachers and teacher-preparation programs identify, evaluate, and respond to misaligned expectations early in the teacher-preparation sequence. Plato tells the story of prisoners who mistake the shadows on the wall of their cave for flesh-and-blood reality. These “shadow narratives” dominated their expectations, and when confronted with a three-dimensional reality that bore little resemblance to the shadows, the prisoners were blinded by the light. Surrounded by images and rhetoric that reduce the fullness of teaching to flat, two-dimensional representations, today's pre-service teachers tend to develop expectations of teaching that resemble the shadows more than they resemble reality. These misaligned expectations often lead to practice shock: the painful and disillusioning cognitive dissonance that comes about when unsustainable expectations collide with real-world practice. Intended as a proactive manual for mitigating practice shock, this book shines a light on the shadows by giving pre-service teachers the tools to examine, confront, and revise their own misaligned expectations of teaching before they reach the point of crisis.

Book This Life s Tempestuous Sea

Download or read book This Life s Tempestuous Sea written by Douglas Charles Toland and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2013-06-20 with total page 551 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a weak moment, I have written a book. Margaret Mitchell This book is a multilayered creation that touches on a wide array of topics, many of them drawn from personal experiences. Indeed, you the lucky reader will be blessed with enough material for at least three books within one cover. Why would I want to write such a multi-themed book? It wasnt my original intention. Maybe Ive learned an important lesson and wont do so next time. Like many older folks, I wanted to share what I have learned to be true and useful and couldnt seem to stay with a single topic. Ive lived long enough to confirm an important realization: the gleanings from a well-lived life are at least as important as knowledge gained vicariously through reading and classroom attendance. But I think most people dont fully appreciate the value of their life lessons and end up taking most of them to the grave. I want to counter that pattern and use this book to share as many of my gleanings as I can. I also recognize several imminent dangers facing this nation and our planet and feel compelled to share these concerns. Just as important: I want my wife, children, and grandchildren to know more about who I was and who Ive come to be. I hope they will have occasions to use some of my wisdom.

Book Girls Write Now Unmuted

Download or read book Girls Write Now Unmuted written by Girls Write Now and published by Feminist Press at CUNY. This book was released on 2021-06-15 with total page 471 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Censored. Repressed. Subdued. Bound. Muted. No more. In a world pushed to the precipice of change, in a society that values the tried and true over the dynamic and new, what does it mean to be unmuted? In this anthology, a chorus of young women and gender-expansive teens give voice to fear and silence, hold nothing back, and demand justice. To be unmuted right now requires a new brand of bravery and these writers show us how it’s done. Using stories, poems, essays, fiction, drama, interviews, and more, they report on a global pandemic, a climate crisis, and the movement for racial equity. They also invite us on their personal journeys through the labyrinth of young adulthood: feeling the rich soil of a neighborhood garden between their fingers; traveling through time in search of their parents; inhaling the charged air where young love is brewing. For twenty-three years, the nationally award-winning nonprofit Girls Write Now has broken down the barriers of gender, race, age, and poverty, elevating the voices of writers who are too often not heard—or worse, silenced. Girls Write Now is the first writing and mentoring organization for girls and gender expansive youth of color, ranking today as one of the top programs nationwide for driving social-emotional growth for youth.

  • Publisher : Xlibris Corporation
  • Release : 2017-04-04
  • ISBN : 1524591149
  • Pages : 387 pages

Download or read book From Grace to Glory written by Naomi Ruth Jones Kilpatrick and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2017-04-04 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book chronicles a life long journey of stunning and tragic events. It took some five plus years of a "backward glance" to describe that journey. It begins within the doors of a small, seemingly insignificant church on the south side of Chicago where "ordinary people" did extraordinary things; a little assembly of believers gathered together in the Lord's name. The church had been founded by an icon, a giant in the Christian community named B. M. Nottage, who started, along with his brothers, several assemblies in Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, and other cities. This book, "From Grace to Glory", gives a vivid picture of the marvelous grace of God and his unbounded, unlimited mercy through great tragedy and devastating losses. Read the shocking "unpleasant history" of this little church, and its' resilience through it all. Laugh out loud in "A Little Bit About A Lot of Things", as you look at Bob Hope's jokes and Mae West's one-liners. Read the jaw-dropping "You in six words" from Oprah Winfrey. Go back to another era of great books, outstanding movies, and awe-inspiring music. Share in the great pride of cultural icons who contributed so much to our country and ultimately to the whole world. Don't miss the chapter on the "Onslaught of Nines", where you will discover unknown facts, or surprising facts, or maybe "not-new facts", or just affirmation for the people, places, and things. You will wonder what is the "Fine As Wine In the Summertime" chapter all about? And then, this book gives a vivid picture of the great love and the deep ties of family; a family with an ancestor who could not read or write, but amassed a fortune in land and property. Love of family runs through this family whether you are rich and famous, or poor and needy, or somewhere in between. All families can affirm this, but this book tells it in a different way, in a different format. By reading "From Grace to Glory ... A little Bit About A Lot of Things", we are reminded of what is important in life. We are encouraged by the dear ones who have gone on before us. We can build on that strong love, that strong foundation that has been left, and we can trust our God to take us from His grace to His glory as we continue on life's journey.
