Book excerpt: In this dissertation, the effect of cold plasma treatment on the comfort properties of P/C blend fabric has been studied in a low pressure plasma reactor. The plasma treatment was conducted on the samples of 65% polyester and 35% cotton blend fabric using argon, oxygen and air, separately, as well as mixtures of O2/HMDSO, N2/HMDSO, H2O/HMDSO and HMDSO monomer alone as working gases. Special attention was given to oxygen plasma due to its wide application for various textile/polymer materials. Due to this reason, the Taguchi method was used to design, analyze and optimize the oxygen plasma process. Other plasma parameters including working pressure, discharge power, duration of treatment and flow rate were also considered. The various comfort properties of plasma treated and untreated P/C blend fabric have been studied. In particular, thermal comfort such as, water vapor, air permeability, thermal resistance and wickability as well as tactile comfort including hand-feel and electro-physical properties were investigated. As the results showed that the oxygen plasma treatment had a positive effect on the thermal comfort and resistivity properties of P/C the blend fabric.

Book A Study on the Effect of Plasma Treatment on Thermal Comfort Properties of Cotton Fabric

Download or read book A Study on the Effect of Plasma Treatment on Thermal Comfort Properties of Cotton Fabric written by Jebastin A. Rajwin and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this study, the influence of plasma treatment on the thermal comfort properties of cotton woven fabric has been investigated. The woven fabric sample was treated with three types of plasma, namely, air, argon, and oxygen plasma. The investigation was done with various parameters like treatment time, the distance between the fabric sample and electrode, and the frequency of the plasma process. It is observed that the air permeability of the fabric has a linear relationship with the distance of the sample and better air permeability achieved in air plasma. Also, the air permeability inversely related to time and frequency. The thermal resistance and water vapor permeability decreased with the distance and increased with the time and frequency. Similarly, the thermal resistance and water vapor permeability of cotton samples were enhanced in oxygen plasma treatment.

Book Thermal Comforts Properties of Knitted Fabrics Produced from Bamboo blended yarns

Download or read book Thermal Comforts Properties of Knitted Fabrics Produced from Bamboo blended yarns written by Dr. Shivaraj R Kulkarni and published by Ashok Yakkaldevi. This book was released on 2020-12-18 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: INTRODUCTION This chapter is concerned with the general introduction, importance of thermal comfort and need for research on it. The objectives of the study and organization of the thesis are discussed. Importance of Blending Natural fibres and their blends with classic fibres bear valuable properties and so at present there are various products made of these fibres. It is observed that in respect of properties like the absorption and discharge of moisture, non-irritating, antibacterial, and anti-allergic characteristics, protection against the sun‘s harmful ultra-violet rays and other valuable properties, blended yarns are better than classical yarns. Hence, they may be used for clothing, underwear, socks, and hygienic textile products as well as for composites. In the cotton spinning process, blending has the objective of producing yarn with acceptable quality and reasonable cost. A good quality blend requires the use of adequate machines, objective techniques to select bales and knowledge of its characteristics. Knowledge of the importance of blended products in the textile industry and the generally rising costs of production make the achievement of economic and good quality blends with different kinds of cotton more and more critical (Azzouz et al 2008).

Book Surface Modification of Fabrics by Air Plasma and Argon Plasma Generated from Theta pinch Device

Download or read book Surface Modification of Fabrics by Air Plasma and Argon Plasma Generated from Theta pinch Device written by and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Polyester, cotton and polyester/cotton blended (T/C) fabrics were surfaced-modified by high temperature-pulsed air plasma and argon plasma generated from a theta-pinch device. The number of plasma shot applied to the fabric was varied from 10, 20, 30 and 40 shots. The theta-pinch device was operated with the pressure of 2 Pa, the maximum input current of 125 kA and the charging voltage of 20 kV. Attenuated total reflectance fourier transform infrared spectra of all plasma-treated fabrics indicated the formation of hydrophilic functional groups such as carbonyl, amine and aldehyde groups depending on the gas type and the fabric type. In addition, scanning electron microscopic photographs revealed the etching and the redeposition of etched fragments on the fabric surface resulting in surface roughness. It was found that better wettability was achieved with increasing the number of plasma shot. However, dyeability and colorfastness to washing properties were also depended on the fabric type. It was found that highly hydrophilic fabric such as cotton, air and argon plasma treatments had no effects on these two properties. In the case of polyester and T/C fabrics, after dyeing with selected dyes, it was found that the highest color strengths were achieved when they were modified by 20 shots of air plasma.
