Book Investigation of Continuously Variable Slope Delta Modulator Demodulator Compatability

Download or read book Investigation of Continuously Variable Slope Delta Modulator Demodulator Compatability written by Jeffrey Allan Lersch and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A computer model of the continuously variable slope delta voice encoding system specified in the draft STANAG on 'Analogue/Digital Conversion of Speech Signals for Tactical, Digital Area Communication Systems', dated June 1978, is developed and implemented in FORTRAN IV. The model's performance is then characterized in terms of idle channel noise, total harmonic distortion, intermodulation distortion, signal-to-noise ratio, and frequency response. For each of these attributes, the system's performance is presented graphically and compared to the criteria established in the draft standard. The model is then exercised by varying the system parameters to the limits imposed by the standard and the resulting performance compared to the previously determined ideal system performance. The results show that the performance characteristics measured are most sensitive to the primary integrator response and output filter response when the system parameters are restricted to the range allowed by the draft NATO standard. Book Multiplexing of Delta Modulated Signals

Download or read book Multiplexing of Delta Modulated Signals written by Donald J. Bennier and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report is the Final Report as required by Project Mallard Technique study TSE-5 (Task Directive 12). It gives a complete picture of work done on the study, and analyses delta modulation and multiplexing techniques. Three basic types of delta modulator were selected for modelling and testing: Companded Sigma Delta (GEC-Mk3), Variable Slope Delta type 1, and Continuous Delta. The use of one multiplexed modulator and of discrete modulators with post multiplexing was modelled. No significant degradation in performance was found to be associated with the multiplexing process. Extensive Subjective testing, using Fairbanks Rhyme tests, was undertaken to determine intelligibility and useful dynamic range. These tests were supported by objective and further subjective tests. In all tests a sampling rate of 19.2kb/s was used, and good intelligibility scores were obtained under these conditions. Some limited testing was also carried out on other delta modulators, viz. VSD modulator designed at National Security Agency, HIDM and BVSDA versions of VSD, Simple Sigma-Delta, and the Digitally Controlled Delta Modulation System designed by Philips staff, Eindhoven. Book Computer aided Evaluation of Reconnaissance Image Compression Schemes Using an On line Interactive Facility

Download or read book Computer aided Evaluation of Reconnaissance Image Compression Schemes Using an On line Interactive Facility written by John C. Mott-Smith and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The desire to transmit high-quality, single-frame images such as reconnaissance photographs places a severe strain on narrow-band communications channels. The problem is severe enough to warrant use of complex and expensive compression methods, providing they really work. The authors propose a method of evaluating compression algorithms applied to pictures, and apply it to several well-known techniques already having one or more hardware implementations. The importance of proper data management for pictorial communication is illustrated, and by implication are shown to be much more important than the data compression algorithms. Relevant to the data management proposals, some methods of improving the cosmetic quality of sparsely sampled images are shown. An interactive computer system (AFCRL's Image Analysis Facility) was used in the study. Special features of this facility are operator control of the entire process from image acquisition through final display, interactive processing, and the ready ability to explore new ideas in some depth. Book Circuits Packets and Protocols

Download or read book Circuits Packets and Protocols written by James L. Pelkey and published by Morgan & Claypool. This book was released on 2022-04-19 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As recently as 1968, computer scientists were uncertain how best to interconnect even two computers. The notion that within a few decades the challenge would be how to interconnect millions of computers around the globe was too far-fetched to contemplate. Yet, by 1988, that is precisely what was happening. The products and devices developed in the intervening years—such as modems, multiplexers, local area networks, and routers—became the linchpins of the global digital society. How did such revolutionary innovation occur? This book tells the story of the entrepreneurs who were able to harness and join two factors: the energy of computer science researchers supported by governments and universities, and the tremendous commercial demand for Internetworking computers. The centerpiece of this history comes from unpublished interviews from the late 1980s with over 80 computing industry pioneers, including Paul Baran, J.C.R. Licklider, Vint Cerf, Robert Kahn, Larry Roberts, and Robert Metcalfe. These individuals give us unique insights into the creation of multi-billion dollar markets for computer-communications equipment, and they reveal how entrepreneurs struggled with failure, uncertainty, and the limits of knowledge.

Book Trends in Communications Satellites

Download or read book Trends in Communications Satellites written by Denis J. Curtin and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trends in Communications Satellites offers a comprehensive look at trends and advances in satellite communications, including experimental ones such as NASA satellites and those jointly developed by France and Germany. The economic aspects of communications satellites are also examined. This book consists of 16 chapters and begins with a discussion on the fundamentals of electrical communications and their application to space communications, including spacecraft, earth stations, and orbit and wavelength utilization. The next section demonstrates how successful commercial satellite communications have become, citing the INTELSAT series of satellites. The forerunners of INTELSAT satellites are mentioned, and the major characteristics of all INTELSAT satellites are surveyed. One chapter is devoted to the rapidly growing use of communications satellites for various domestic systems, focusing on the systems developed by the Hughes Aircraft Company for Canada, Indonesia, and the United States. The next section considers the economics of communications satellite systems using the INTELSAT and COMSAT experience. The concluding section presents a compilation in tabular and graphical form of the physical characteristics of the satellites discussed in the text. This monograph will be a useful resource for satellite communications engineers as well as policymakers concerned with communications satellites and space exploration more generally.
