An energy scan through the resonances, performed with a very narrow momentum-band beam of antiprotons intersecting a hydrogen jet target, enables them to perform very precise measurements of the mass and the total width of the two resonances. From their measurement of the quantity?(R → {anti p}p) × BR(R → J/??) × BR(J? → ee−), using known branching ratios, the authors obtain:?(?1 → {anti p}p) = (69 ± 13) eV;?(?2 → {anti p}p) = (180 ± 31) eV.

The authors report new measurements of the mass, width, and B([chi]{sub cJ} 2!{bar p}p) x [Lambda]([chi]{sub eJ} 2!J/[psi] + anything) for the [chi]{sub c1} and [chi]{sub c2} by means of the inclusive reaction {bar p}p 2![chi]{sub cJ} 2!J/[psi] + anything 2!(ee−) + anything. Using the subsample of events where [chi]{sub cJ} 2![gamma] + J/[psi] 2![gamma] + (e+e−) is fully reconstructed, we derive B([chi]{sub cJ} 2!{bar p}p) x [Lambda]([chi]{sub cJ} 2!J/[psi] + [gamma]). They summarize the results of the E760 (updated) and E835 measurements of mass, width and B([chi]{sub cJ} 2!{bar p}p)[Lambda]([chi]{sub cJ} 2!J/[psi] + [gamma]) (J = 0,1,2) and discuss the significance of these measurements.

Book excerpt: The author presents the results of a search for the spin-singlet P-wave state hc(11 P1) of charmonium formed through proton-antiproton annihilation at Fermilab experiment E835. The decay channels which were studied were p$ar{p}$ → J/? + X → e+e- + X, p$ar{p}$ → J/? + ?0 → e+e- + ??, p$ar{p}$ → J/? + ?0?0 → e+e- + 4?, and the neutral channel p$ar{p}$ → ?c? → (??)?. The decay p$ar{p}$ → J/?? → e+e-?, into which 1P1 decay is forbidden by C-parity conservation, was also examined for comparison. The 90% confidence upper limits for the decay channels studied in the mass range 3525.1-3527.3 MeV for a 1P1 resonance with a presumed width of 1.0 MeV were determined to be B(p$ar{p}$ → 1P1) x B(1P1 → J/? + X) ≤ 1.8 x 10-7, B(p$ar{p}$ → 1P1) x B(1P1 → J/? + ?0) ≤ 1.2 x 10-7, and B(p$ar{p}$ → 1P1) x B(1P1 → J/??) ≤ 1.0 x 10-7. No evidence for a 1P1 enhancement was observed in either of the two additional reactions studied; p$ar{p}$ → J/? + ?0?0 → e+e- + 4? and p$ar{p}$ → ?c? → (??)?.
