Book A Study of the Relation of Accuracy to Speed Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Study of the Relation of Accuracy to Speed Classic Reprint written by Henry E. Garrett and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-11 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Study of the Relation of Accuracy to Speed The object of the greater part of the experimental work done on Lifted Weights has been the testing of the validity of Weber's Law, the measurement of sensitivity, the analysis of the factors which enter into a sensory judgment, etc. The question of the relation of the time or rate of lift, or the time given for judgment, to the accuracy of discrimination has usually arisen incidentally as the result of a variation in pro cedure, or as an interesting sidelight on the main problem: in no instance has it been the chief interest. I have, therefore, in citing results from the classical work done in this field, restricted myself to those references which are directly perti nent to the problem dealt with in this paper. For, as a matter of fact, to review, even briefly, the extensive literature which has grown up around the subject of Lifted Weights would be impossible in a limited space, and for the present purpose, it would be unnecessary. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Improvement of Speed and Accuracy in Typewriting, Vol. 7 The author gladly avails himself of this opportunity to express his indebtedness to Dr. Edward F. Buchner, Professor of Education, and to Dr. David E. Weglein, Associate in Education, both of the Johns Hopkins University. It was through the suggestion of Dr. Weglein that the writer's attention was first directed to this field of investigation. Throughout the course of the study the writer was greatly aided and encouraged by the criticisms and suggestions of Professor Buchner, to whom too much credit cannot possibly be ascribed for any worth which this study may be found to possess. Book A Study in Reaction Time and Movement Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Study in Reaction Time and Movement Classic Reprint written by Thomas Verner Moore and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-09-26 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Study in Reaction Time and Movement Since the question of reaction time is only subsidiary to our real problem, it will not be necessary to give in this paper an account of its rather extensive literature. References, however, to the various accounts of the literature of reaction time will be given in the bibliography. The motor discharge by which the reaction is made has been studied but little. Most of the pre vious investigations in this field of research have been concerned separately with one or the other of the two phenomena into whose relation we now inquire. Movement has been given a great deal of attention in studies of fatigue. The perception of movement and its accuracy have also been the subject of much research. In a paper communicated to the Royal Society of Lon don,1 Dr. William R. Jack presented a study of the velocity of various finger movements for people of different pursuits and ages. No comparison of the velocity of movement with the time of reaction was made. Only the speed of movement was studied and its variation according to the age and ordinary life of the subject. Book Cognitive Dissonance

Download or read book Cognitive Dissonance written by Joel Cooper and published by SAGE. This book was released on 2007-03-27 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ′Dr. Joel Cooper has been at the very forefront of research on dissonance theory for decades now. In this book, he provides a brilliant and engagingly-written review of the 50-year history of dissonance research and a masterful account of the ensuing developments in the theory. The book will be an outstanding resource for readers familiar with dissonance research and an enlightening introduction for those who are not′ - Professor Russell H. Fazio, Ohio State University Why is it that people who smoke continue to do so knowing how bad it is for them? What drives people to committing adultery even though they inherently believe this is wrong? What′s the outcome of this contradiction in the mind? Cognitive dissonance has been an important and influential theory since Leon Festinger published his classic work in 1957. It is known by every social psychologist, most psychologists of any stripe, and the lay public, making its way into such mainstream publications as The New York Times with increasing frequency and accuracy. Ultimately, dissonance has become one of the most popularly known expressions of social psychological insights, making its way into the literature in consumer, health and economic behavior, and has become a frequently used explanation of political behavior in the popular press and magazines. In marking the 50th anniversary of the theory′s inception, Joel Cooper - arguably the scholar most associated with dissonance research in the past few decades - has presented a beautiful, modern and comprehensive analysis of the state of dissonance theory. This book charts the progress of dissonance theory, assessing its impact not only within our understanding of psychology but in everyday experiences as well. It should be important reading for students in social psychology, either undergraduate or graduate, but equally relevant to a host of other readers who need to understand or share the same passions for appreciating the significance of cognitive dissonance in the human psyche.
