Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I was very happy to learn that Plenum Press has decided to publish an English edition of Chemistry of the Ionosphere. Although the book was largely intended for the Soviet reader in order to fill some gaps in Russian-language reviews on aeronomic problems, I hope that it may be useful to foreign specialists engaged in iono spheric research as well. Naturally, during the time which has elapsed since the preparation of the Russian edition new studies have been published in the world literature on the problems dealt with in this book. The most important of these are noted in the ap pendix to this edition, but some problems (for example, with respect to the physics of negative ions in the lower ionosphere) require a radical reexamination, which cannot be done in a brief appendix. I will be pleased if publication of the book in English will as sist in removing some of the currently existing ambiguities in basic problems of upper atmosphere chemistry. A. D. Danilov Preface to the Russian Edition 1 In the last decade surprising successes have been achieved in the study of the earth's upper atmosphere by use of rockets and artificial satellites. These investigations have made it clear that the upper atmosphere (and particularly the ionospheric region at altitudes 100-1000 km) is a considerably more complex formation than could be visualized prior to the advent of active studies with space vehicles.

Book A Computer Program for Solving the Reaction Rate Equations in the E Ionospheric Region

Download or read book A Computer Program for Solving the Reaction Rate Equations in the E Ionospheric Region written by Thomas J. Keneshea and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In studies of the mechanisms responsible for the formation of the ionized regions of the atmos phere, one of the problems encountered is the solution of the set of differential equations describing the time dependence of the number density of the chemical species present. For simple cases where only one or two species are involved, there is no particular problem. When all the important constituents are included, however, the solution of these equations becomes very complex. A computer technique is pre sented that will solve any size set of these differential equations involving any number of chemical reactions. (Author).

Book Computer Program for the Disturbed Steady state Nighttime D region

Download or read book Computer Program for the Disturbed Steady state Nighttime D region written by William Swider and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A computer program has been developed for the nighttime D-region under disturbed steady-state conditions. The program provides for the determination of the electron concentration, total negative ion concentration, and the individual positive ion concentrations as a function of altitude. Model results are computed and compared with nighttime data obtained by various experimentalists during the 2 to 5 November 1969 solar proton event.

Book Sunrise E region Enhancements from Aurorally Increased NO Theory

Download or read book Sunrise E region Enhancements from Aurorally Increased NO Theory written by William Swider and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: E-region nitric oxide concentrations are known to be greater at high altitudes as compared to low- and midlatitudes. It is suggested that studies of electron concentration data from ionosondes and/or the Chatanika backscatter radar at night, and especially at sunrise, may be able to provide peak nitric oxide concentrations when aurora are determined to be absent. Book The D and E Regions

Download or read book The D and E Regions written by William Swider and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The chemistry of the E-region is fairly well understood and even many of the dynamical complications of this region have been successfully modeled on individual bases. Some of the major remaining problems of this region are discussed, in particular the nitric oxide concentration, a gas affecting the ratio of the two major E-region ions, O2(+) and NO(+). The D-region is much simpler than the E-region from a dynamical point of view but extremely much more complex from a chemical standpoint. Recent results from a study of the D-region under bombardment by solar protons is emphasized.
