Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The object of this book is to clarify the whole aspect of the basic problems concerning the elastic stability of of circular cylindrical shells under typical loading conditions. The book deals with buckling, postbuckling and initial postbuckling problems under one of the three fundamental loads, that is, torsion, pressure and compression. The emphases are placed on the accurate analysis and comprehensive numeral results for the buckling problem, experimental verification of the theoretical analysis for the postbuckling problem and clarification of the range of applicability of the perturbation method for the analysis of initial postbuckling behaviors and imperfection sensitivity. The problems under typical combined loads as well as the influence of the contained liquid are also clarified.

Book On the Stability of Eccentrically Stiffened Cylindrical Shells Under Axial Compression

Download or read book On the Stability of Eccentrically Stiffened Cylindrical Shells Under Axial Compression written by Josef Singer and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 55 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The eccentricity effect of stiffeners is studied for stiffened cylindrical shells under axial compression. Classical simple supports and classical clamped ends are considered. A detailed physical explanation of the causes of the eccentricity effect and its behavior is proposed and verified by computations for 350 typical shells. As for buckling under hydrostatic pressure and torsion studied earlier, the behavior of the eccentricity effect in the case of axial compression also depends very strongly on the geometry of the shell, represented by the Batdorf parameter, while the geometry of the stiffeners only influences its magnitude. Inversion of eccentricity effect occurs at very low Z, but for practical dimensions outside stringers always stiffen the shell more than inside ones. The eccentricity effect has a pronounced maximum at practical values of Z, and the behavior of the eccentricity effect is very similar for clamped and simply supported shells. Rings, which are much less effective stiffeners than stringers under axial compression, are also considered. Results are compared with those of other investigators. (Author).

Book The Effect of Axisymmetric Initial Imperfections on the Vibrations of Cylindrical Shells Under Axial Compression

Download or read book The Effect of Axisymmetric Initial Imperfections on the Vibrations of Cylindrical Shells Under Axial Compression written by Aviv Rosen and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The vibrations of a cylindrical shell with an axisymmetric initial imperfection and axial preload are studied. Small asymmetric harmonic vibrations are superposed on the basic static axisymmetric equilibrium and the frequency of these vibrations is evaluated. The analysis is based on the nonlinear equations of shallow shell theory, and follows closely an earlier stability investigation by Koiter. The study is restricted to initial imperfections similar to an axisymmetric buckling mode of a perfect cylindrical shell and represents a first approximation only. Such imperfections exhibit a strong influence on the frequency of the vibrations. The possible implications of this effect are discussed. (Author).

Book Bendings of Surfaces and Stability of Shells

Download or read book Bendings of Surfaces and Stability of Shells written by Alekse_ Vasil_evich Pogorelov and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1988-12-31 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains an accessible exposition of the geometric theory of stability of elastic shells, starting from the basic facts of the theory of finite and infinitesimal bendings of surfaces. The author has included a number of new results obtained in recent years. In particular, the complete solution of the problem of stability of spherical shells under an external pressure is contained here without any assumptions regarding the character of buckling. Within the framework of the mathematical model of the phenomenon, the author gives a complete investigation of the loss of stability of a general, strictly convex shell fastened along an edge under external pressure. The author considers the question of the loss of stability of cylindrical shells under axial compression and the effect of various factors on the critical load, among other questions. In contrast to the author's 1967 book on the subject, this work is limited to a relatively small number of classical problems on the loss of stability of shells, but these problems are investigated more thoroughly.

Book Non axisymmetric Local Stability Loss of a Hollow Cylinder

Download or read book Non axisymmetric Local Stability Loss of a Hollow Cylinder written by Surkay D. Akbarov and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-12-03 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents formulations and examples of three-dimensional non-axisymmetric stability in viscoelastic anisotropic cylindrical shells. The most critical stability loss modes are determined by minimizing the critical loads and critical times with respect to the number of half-waves in radial as well as transverse directions. Currently, there is no literature available on three-dimensional local buckling analysis (or localized warpage) that considers non-axisymmetric stability loss in viscoelastic cylindrical shells. The contents of this book provide the formulation for such a stability loss analysis through the framework of the three-dimensional linearized theory of stability. Additionally, as this book addresses the problem by modeling the material as a viscoelastic fibrous composite, it can be applied to carry out buckling analysis in both elastic and viscoelastic cases. Guide to modelling composite viscoelastic shell elements for buckling analysis Provides a framework for defining the failure criterion for viscoelastic materials Course material for teaching shell buckling and viscoelastic composites
