Book A Chemical Study of Some of the Factors Affecting the Availability of Potassium in Soils

Download or read book A Chemical Study of Some of the Factors Affecting the Availability of Potassium in Soils written by William Kitchener Robertson and published by . This book was released on 1947 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Carbonic acid and carbonic acid combined with freezing and thawing, extract considerably less, and 0.5N hydrochloric acid only slightly more potassium from Greensboro pasture soil, than does extraction with\ ammonium acetate. The hydrochloric acid extraction indicates that this soil has a low supply of so-called moderately available potassium. Experiments with samples of fertilized Greensboro loam show little variation in the moderately available fraction." --

Book Improving Potassium Recommendations for Agricultural Crops

Download or read book Improving Potassium Recommendations for Agricultural Crops written by T. Scott Murrell and published by Springer. This book was released on 2022 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book highlights concepts discussed at two international conferences that brought together world-renowned scientists to advance the science of potassium (K) recommendations for crops. There was general agreement that the potassium recommendations currently in general use are oversimplified, outdated, and jeopardize soil, plant, and human health. Accordingly, this book puts forward a significantly expanded K cycle that more accurately depicts K inputs, losses and transformations in soils. This new cycle serves as both the conceptual basis for the scientific discussions in this book and a framework upon which to build future improvements. Previously used approaches are critically reviewed and assessed, not only for their relevance to future enhancements, but also for their use as metrics of sustainability. An initial effort is made to link K nutrition in crops and K nutrition in humans. The book offers an invaluable asset for graduate students, educators, industry scientists, data scientists, and advanced agronomists.

Book Inorganic Nutrition of Plants

Download or read book Inorganic Nutrition of Plants written by F.C. Steward and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 830 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plant Physiology, Volume III: Inorganic Nutrition of Plants deals with the inorganic nutrition and metabolism of plants. The book explores the role of elements, other than carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen, which are essential to, or used by, plants in their vital processes. It summarizes the knowledge about mineral nutrition of plants and presents a philosophy of plant nutrition in general. This volume is organized into six chapters and begins with a brief history of mineral nutrition of plants, as well as the media from which plants draw their nutrients, such as the soil and artificial culture medium. The book then discusses the requirements for specific elements, the symptoms incurred by their deficient supply, and the evidence that a given element can be considered essential. The next chapters focus on the inorganic nutrition of microorganisms, general functions of the essential nutrient elements, and the biological situations in which elementary nitrogen is converted to the organic form. The book concludes by analyzing the soil as a complex biological system and its implication for the interpretation of the nutrition of higher plants. This book is a valuable resource for those interested in plant nutrition and plant physiology.
