Book Measurement Uncertainty

Download or read book Measurement Uncertainty written by Ronald H. Dieck and published by ISA. This book was released on 2007 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Literally an entire course between two covers, Measurement Uncertainty: Methods and Applications, Fourth Edition, presents engineering students with a comprehensive tutorial of measurement uncertainty methods in a logically categorized and readily utilized format. The new uncertainty technologies embodied in both U.S. and international standards have been incorporated into this text with a view toward understanding the strengths and weaknesses of both. The book is designed to also serve as a practical desk reference in situations that commonly confront an experimenter. The text presents the basics of the measurement uncertainty model, non-symmetrical systematic standard uncertainties, random standard uncertainties, the use of correlation, curve-fitting problems, and probability plotting, combining results from different test methods, calibration errors, and uncertainty propagation for both independent and dependent error sources. The author draws on years of experience in industry to direct special attention to the problem of developing confidence in uncertainty analysis results and using measurement uncertainty to select instrumentation systems.

Book Multiphase Slug Flow Characteristics and Their Effects on Corrosion in Pipelines

Download or read book Multiphase Slug Flow Characteristics and Their Effects on Corrosion in Pipelines written by Jyi-Yu Sun and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of corrosion in multiphase pipelines is usually conducted in the laboratory using single phase test systems. The results from these tests are often extrapolated to large diameter pipelines. Great errors can occur in this process. This study utilizes stationary slugs (i.e. hydraulic jumps) to simultaneously measure characteristics of the slug flow in horizontal pipes, including the local oil, water, and gas fractions within these slugs, the wall shear stress and flow turbulent intensity at 7 axial and 3 circumferential locations, pressure drops across the slugs, and corrosion/erosion rates at the bottom and the top of the pipe. Results are reported for flows with and without corrosion inhibitors present. Two corrosion inhibitors A and C as prescribed by Arco Oil Company, have been examined. The test fluids are water only, oil only, and oil-water mixtures of 20% oil and 80% water and 40% oil and 60% water, respectively. Measurements, along with visual observations, for each inhibitor indicate that there are significant differences in the way that the inhibitors act to reduce the corrosion rate.

Book Stochastic Tools in Turbulence

Download or read book Stochastic Tools in Turbulence written by John L. Lumley and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This accessible treatment offers the mathematical tools for describing and solving problems related to stochastic vector fields. Advanced undergraduates and graduate students will find its use of generalized functions a relatively simple method of resolving mathematical questions. It will prove a valuable reference for applied mathematicians and professionals in the fields of aerospace, chemical, civil, and nuclear engineering. The author, Professor Emeritus of Engineering at Cornell University, starts with a survey of probability distributions and densities and proceeds to examinations of moments, characteristic functions, and the Gaussian distribution; random functions; and random processes in more dimensions. Extensive appendixes—which include information on Fourier transforms, tensors, generalized functions, and invariant theory—contribute toward making this volume mathematically self-contained.

Book Thermo fluid Dynamics of Two Phase Flow

Download or read book Thermo fluid Dynamics of Two Phase Flow written by Mamoru Ishii and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-09-28 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has been written for graduate students, scientists and engineers who need in-depth theoretical foundations to solve two-phase problems in various technological systems. Based on extensive research experiences focused on the fundamental physics of two-phase flow, the authors present the detailed theoretical foundation of multi-phase flow thermo-fluid dynamics as they apply to a variety of scenarios, including nuclear reactor transient and accident analysis, energy systems, power generation systems and even space propulsion.

Book Physics of Gas Liquid Flows

Download or read book Physics of Gas Liquid Flows written by Thomas J. Hanratty and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2013-10-31 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presenting tools for understanding the behaviour of gas-liquid flows based on the ways large scale behaviour relates to small scale interactions, this text is ideal for engineers seeking to enhance the safety and efficiency of natural gas pipelines, water-cooled nuclear reactors, absorbers, distillation columns and gas lift pumps. The review of advanced concepts in fluid mechanics enables both graduate students and practising engineers to tackle the scientific literature and engage in advanced research. It focuses on gas-liquid flow in pipes as a simple system with meaningful experimental data. This unified theory develops design equations for predicting drop size, frictional pressure losses and slug frequency, which can be used to determine flow regimes, the effects of pipe diameter, liquid viscosity and gas density. It describes the effect of wavy boundaries and temporal oscillations on turbulent flows, and explains transition between phases, which is key to understanding the behaviour of gas-liquid flows.

Book Summary of Laboratory Multiphase Flow Studies in 2 Diameter Pipe at the University of Dayton and Comparison to OLGA Predictions

Download or read book Summary of Laboratory Multiphase Flow Studies in 2 Diameter Pipe at the University of Dayton and Comparison to OLGA Predictions written by Tibo Duran and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In many industrial processes, gas-liquid multiphase flow is a very common phenomenon. Experimental results from the University of Dayton's multiphase flow loop reported in 4 master's theses, 1 honor's thesis and 1 journal article are summarized. OLGA predictive results of flow pattern, pressure drop and liquid holdup in both horizontal and vertical gas-liquid multiphase flow using 2" flow loops were investigated in this study. No annular flow pattern was predicted in horizontal flow pattern map. Moreover, the results from OLGA were analyzed and compared with previous students' experimental data as well as other predictive models. OLGA consistently under predicted pressure drop with respect to the horizontal measured data by 20 - 25% in slug flow and to vertical measured data by 15 - 50%, also OLGA consistently under predicted liquid holdup measured data. However, for the purpose of detecting slug flow, OLGA is a sensitive tool for finding slug flow.
