Book 720 960 Steps

Download or read book 720 960 Steps written by Stanley K. Holloway and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a need for new and innovative marching band techniques in the music field, and most band directors have limited capacity to instill these concepts. Texts from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s concentrated primarily on these concepts and techniques. Gradually, a comprehensive show concept became standard practice. Examination of the existing literature does not reveal a need for more research. Still, some literature demonstrates a need for new and innovative band techniques for marching band, particularly in band pageantry. Although these materials help create a foundation for marching band concepts and have proven effective. They are dated and do not provide a current vision of innovation while creating current trends. This thesis aims to highlight current trends and content in marching band concepts utilized in Predominantly White Institutions (PWI) and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU). Specifically, this research is intended to be a valuable resource for band directors to develop their pedagogy while building their music programs or continuing their current structure. It is not a complete description or meant to propose the best strategy. This research has stressed several viable and successful drill and show design concepts already in use and numerous approaches to technique, pedagogy, and a combined interpretation from previous text to existing text for band directors or show designers to use. The writer will use a historical research design method to create this resource while raising awareness about various student groups and marching band pedagogy.

Book Show Design and Wind Arranging for Marching Ensembles

Download or read book Show Design and Wind Arranging for Marching Ensembles written by John Michael Brennan and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: The purpose this study is to illustrate current trends in show design and wind arranging within the marching band and drum corps activity. Through a comprehensive review of literature a need for further study on this subject was discovered. Specifically, texts from the 1950s, 60s, and 70s focused primarily on marching band arranging practices with minimal influence of show design. Since the 1980s, several documents have been written that discuss show design with some degree of detail, but have neglected to thoroughly address changes in marching band arranging. It is the aim of this thesis to discuss current trends and techniques in marching band wind arranging, and the higher level of detail placed into show conceptualization used by drum corps, competitive, and show band.

Book Preserving the Craft

Download or read book Preserving the Craft written by Freamon McNair (III) and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many high school marching bands in urban school districts across the United States incorporate the marching style used by Historically Black Colleges and University (HBCU) programs. This research aims to investigate the details of teaching the HBCU marching style and provide recommendations on developing more instructional materials and scholarly resources on teaching the marching style. This study will benefit music educators who need more experience in the HBCU style and HBCU music education graduates who are novices in teaching. The band directors of the high school band programs are commonly HBCU graduates who traditionally follow the philosophy taught at their alma maters. Although marching band technique books include assorted style performance styles, there is a comprehensive overview of the HBCU marching style. The methodology of this research requires a qualitative descriptive approach. To analyze the opinions, attitudes, and experiences of the band directors who incorporate the HBCU marching style, the researcher will create a questionnaire distributed via social media groups, email, and personal inboxes. The researcher will also observe video performances, documentaries, and recorded interviews to analyze the intricacies of the marching style. With great expectations, the findings of this research explained the shortage of instructional resources for the HBCU marching style, examined the instructional methods of teaching the marching style effectively, and offered recommendations on how to develop instructional materials.
