Book A Study in Derived Algebraic Geometry

Download or read book A Study in Derived Algebraic Geometry written by Dennis Gaitsgory and published by American Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2019-12-31 with total page 533 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Derived algebraic geometry is a far-reaching generalization of algebraic geometry. It has found numerous applications in various parts of mathematics, most prominently in representation theory. This volume develops the theory of ind-coherent sheaves in the context of derived algebraic geometry. Ind-coherent sheaves are a “renormalization” of quasi-coherent sheaves and provide a natural setting for Grothendieck-Serre duality as well as geometric incarnations of numerous categories of interest in representation theory. This volume consists of three parts and an appendix. The first part is a survey of homotopical algebra in the setting of $infty$-categories and the basics of derived algebraic geometry. The second part builds the theory of ind-coherent sheaves as a functor out of the category of correspondences and studies the relationship between ind-coherent and quasi-coherent sheaves. The third part sets up the general machinery of the $mathrm{(}infty, 2mathrm{)}$-category of correspondences needed for the second part. The category of correspondences, via the theory developed in the third part, provides a general framework for Grothendieck's six-functor formalism. The appendix provides the necessary background on $mathrm{(}infty, 2mathrm{)}$-categories needed for the third part.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Derived algebraic geometry is a far-reaching generalization of algebraic geometry. It has found numerous applications in various parts of mathematics, most prominently in representation theory. This two-volume monograph develops generalization of various topics in algebraic geometry in the context derived algebraic geometry. Volume 1 presents the theory of ind-coherent sheaves, which are a ``renormalization'' of quasi-coherent sheaves and provide a natural setting for Grothendieck-Serre duality as well as geometric incarnations of numerous categories of interest in representation theory. Volume 2 develops deformation theory, Lie theory and the theory of algebroids in the context of derived algebraic geometry. To that end, it introduces the notion of inf-scheme, which is an infinitesimal deformation of a scheme and studies ind-coherent sheaves on inf-schemes. As an application of the general theory, the six-functor formalism for D-modules in derived geometry is obtained.

The second part establishes the equivalence between formal Lie group(oids) and Lie algebr(oids) in the category of ind-coherent sheaves. This equivalence gives a vast generalization of the equivalence between Lie algebras and formal moduli problems. This theory is applied to study natural filtrations in formal derived geometry generalizing the Hodge filtration.

Book Recent Progress on the Donaldson Thomas Theory

Download or read book Recent Progress on the Donaldson Thomas Theory written by Yukinobu Toda and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-12-15 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an exposition of recent progress on the Donaldson–Thomas (DT) theory. The DT invariant was introduced by R. Thomas in 1998 as a virtual counting of stable coherent sheaves on Calabi–Yau 3-folds. Later, it turned out that the DT invariants have many interesting properties and appear in several contexts such as the Gromov–Witten/Donaldson–Thomas conjecture on curve-counting theories, wall-crossing in derived categories with respect to Bridgeland stability conditions, BPS state counting in string theory, and others. Recently, a deeper structure of the moduli spaces of coherent sheaves on Calabi–Yau 3-folds was found through derived algebraic geometry. These moduli spaces admit shifted symplectic structures and the associated d-critical structures, which lead to refined versions of DT invariants such as cohomological DT invariants. The idea of cohomological DT invariants led to a mathematical definition of the Gopakumar–Vafa invariant, which was first proposed by Gopakumar–Vafa in 1998, but its precise mathematical definition has not been available until recently. This book surveys the recent progress on DT invariants and related topics, with a focus on applications to curve-counting theories.

Book New Spaces in Mathematics Volume 1

Download or read book New Spaces in Mathematics Volume 1 written by Mathieu Anel and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2021-04-01 with total page 602 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After the development of manifolds and algebraic varieties in the previous century, mathematicians and physicists have continued to advance concepts of space. This book and its companion explore various new notions of space, including both formal and conceptual points of view, as presented by leading experts at the New Spaces in Mathematics and Physics workshop held at the Institut Henri Poincaré in 2015. The chapters in this volume cover a broad range of topics in mathematics, including diffeologies, synthetic differential geometry, microlocal analysis, topos theory, infinity-groupoids, homotopy type theory, category-theoretic methods in geometry, stacks, derived geometry, and noncommutative geometry. It is addressed primarily to mathematicians and mathematical physicists, but also to historians and philosophers of these disciplines.

Book Grothendieck Duality and Base Change

Download or read book Grothendieck Duality and Base Change written by Brian Conrad and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-07-01 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Grothendieck's duality theory for coherent cohomology is a fundamental tool in algebraic geometry and number theory, in areas ranging from the moduli of curves to the arithmetic theory of modular forms. Presented is a systematic overview of the entire theory, including many basic definitions and a detailed study of duality on curves, dualizing sheaves, and Grothendieck's residue symbol. Along the way proofs are given of some widely used foundational results which are not proven in existing treatments of the subject, such as the general base change compatibility of the trace map for proper Cohen-Macaulay morphisms (e.g., semistable curves). This should be of interest to mathematicians who have some familiarity with Grothendieck's work and wish to understand the details of this theory.

Book Residues and Duality for Projective Algebraic Varieties

Download or read book Residues and Duality for Projective Algebraic Varieties written by Ernst Kunz and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2008 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book, which grew out of lectures by E. Kunz for students with a background in algebra and algebraic geometry, develops local and global duality theory in the special case of (possibly singular) algebraic varieties over algebraically closed base fields. It describes duality and residue theorems in terms of Kahler differential forms and their residues. The properties of residues are introduced via local cohomology. Special emphasis is given to the relation between residues to classical results of algebraic geometry and their generalizations." "The contribution by A. Dickenstein gives applications of residues and duality to polynomial solutions of constant coefficient partial differential equations and to problems in interpolation and ideal membership, D. A. Cox explains toric residues and relates them to the earlier text." "The book is intended as an introduction to more advanced treatments and further applications of the subject, to which numerous bibliographical hints are given."--BOOK JACKET.

Book Algebraic Geometry II Cohomology of Schemes

Download or read book Algebraic Geometry II Cohomology of Schemes written by Ulrich Görtz and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-11-22 with total page 877 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book completes the comprehensive introduction to modern algebraic geometry which was started with the introductory volume Algebraic Geometry I: Schemes. It begins by discussing in detail the notions of smooth, unramified and étale morphisms including the étale fundamental group. The main part is dedicated to the cohomology of quasi-coherent sheaves. The treatment is based on the formalism of derived categories which allows an efficient and conceptual treatment of the theory, which is of crucial importance in all areas of algebraic geometry. After the foundations are set up, several more advanced topics are studied, such as numerical intersection theory, an abstract version of the Theorem of Grothendieck-Riemann-Roch, the Theorem on Formal Functions, Grothendieck's algebraization results and a very general version of Grothendieck duality. The book concludes with chapters on curves and on abelian schemes, which serve to develop the basics of the theory of these two important classes of schemes on an advanced level, and at the same time to illustrate the power of the techniques introduced previously. The text contains many exercises that allow the reader to check their comprehension of the text, present further examples or give an outlook on further results.

Book Lectures on Algebraic Geometry II

Download or read book Lectures on Algebraic Geometry II written by Günter Harder and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-04-21 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second volume introduces the concept of shemes, reviews some commutative algebra and introduces projective schemes. The finiteness theorem for coherent sheaves is proved, here again the techniques of homological algebra and sheaf cohomology are needed. In the last two chapters, projective curves over an arbitrary ground field are discussed, the theory of Jacobians is developed, and the existence of the Picard scheme is proved. Finally, the author gives some outlook into further developments- for instance étale cohomology- and states some fundamental theorems.

Book Algebraic Geometry for Associative Algebras

Download or read book Algebraic Geometry for Associative Algebras written by Freddy Van Oystaeyen and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2000-06-06 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work focuses on the association of methods from topology, category and sheaf theory, algebraic geometry, noncommutative and homological algebras, quantum groups and spaces, rings of differential operation, Cech and sheaf cohomology theories, and dimension theories to create a blend of noncommutative algebraic geometry. It offers a scheme theory that sustains the duality between algebraic geometry and commutative algebra to the noncommutative level.

Book Introduction to Algebraic Geometry

Download or read book Introduction to Algebraic Geometry written by Serge Lang and published by Courier Dover Publications. This book was released on 2019-03-20 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Author Serge Lang defines algebraic geometry as the study of systems of algebraic equations in several variables and of the structure that one can give to the solutions of such equations. The study can be carried out in four ways: analytical, topological, algebraico-geometric, and arithmetic. This volume offers a rapid, concise, and self-contained introductory approach to the algebraic aspects of the third method, the algebraico-geometric. The treatment assumes only familiarity with elementary algebra up to the level of Galois theory. Starting with an opening chapter on the general theory of places, the author advances to examinations of algebraic varieties, the absolute theory of varieties, and products, projections, and correspondences. Subsequent chapters explore normal varieties, divisors and linear systems, differential forms, the theory of simple points, and algebraic groups, concluding with a focus on the Riemann-Roch theorem. All the theorems of a general nature related to the foundations of the theory of algebraic groups are featured.
