Book A Study in Conjugated Polymers

Download or read book A Study in Conjugated Polymers written by Justin Taylor Roop and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conjugated polymers have been the focus of intense research for more than a decade now, and advances in this field are beginning to materialize in the production of high-efficiency opto-electronic materials that may led to the generation of energy without the need for fossil fuels. However, these current materials have not been shown to be capable of reaching efficiency levels high enough to be competitive with the silicon-based solar cells that are the standard today. We embarked on a journey in this work to help the next step in conjugated polymer research be attained. We have done just that through a fundamental study of dilution solution properties of these materials in addition to the synthetic pathway we have cleared so that highly functionalized conjugated polymers may be synthesized that will lead to block copolymers with tailored properties. These materials will revolutionize the field of organic photovoltaics and organic field transistors. The synthetic method for the generation of functionalized conjugated polymers described here represents an approach that can used to impart any number of functionalities onto the conjugated polymer chains which will lead directly to block copolymer systems. We have shown this ability through the synthesis of a diblock copolymer with promise of a miktoarm star block copolymer in this work. The versatility of the method developed here allows for other combinations of polymers and molecular architectures to be attainable in like manner. This work serves to provide other means by which these useful polymers may reach their maximum potential.

Book The Economic Utilisation of Food Co Products

Download or read book The Economic Utilisation of Food Co Products written by Abbas Kazmi and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2013-10-09 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the world’s population continues to grow so does the demand for food, and in consequence the amount of material left over from food production. No longer considered simply as "waste", many food co-products are being identified as economically-viable raw materials and their potential is enhanced by modern processing technologies and the biorefinery concept. This book presents a general overview of the current situation, with perspectives from within the food industry and policy makers in the introductory chapters. These are followed by five chapters exploring modern advanced processing techniques. Further chapters are dedicated to separate food groups, including cereals, oils, rice and fish, exploring the potential for making the best use of the co-products generated. Many of the processing technologies discussed will be familiar to students and practitioners of green chemistry, but the book goes further in presenting examples and case studies, written by active workers in the field from across the globe. Food technicians and process engineers will be amongst the researchers in academia and industry and postgraduate students this book is aimed for.

Book Conjugated Polymeric Materials Opportunities in Electronics Optoelectronics and Molecular Electronics

Download or read book Conjugated Polymeric Materials Opportunities in Electronics Optoelectronics and Molecular Electronics written by J.L. Brédas and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 591 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book constitutes the Proceedings of the NATO Advanced Research Workshop on Conjugated Polymers held at the University of Mons, Belgium, during the first week of September 1989. The Workshop was attended by about fifty scientists representing most of the leading research groups within NATO countries, that have contributed to the development of conjugated polymeric materials. The program was focused on applications related to electrical conductivity and nonlinear optics. The attendance was well balanced with a blend of researchers from academic, industrial, and government labs, and including synthetic chemists, physical chemists, physicists, materials scientists, and theoreticians. The Workshop provided an especially timely opportunity to discuss the important progress that has taken place in the field of Conjugated Polymers in the late eighties as well as the enormous potential that lies in front of us. Among the recent significant developments in the field, we can cite for instance: (i) The discovery of novel synthetic routes affording conjugated polymers -that are much better characterized, especially through control of the molecular weight; - that can be processed from solution or the melt; the early promise that conducting polymcrs would constitute materials combining the electrical conductivities of metals with the mechanical properties of plastics is now being realized; -that can reach remarkably high conductivities.

Book Conjugated Polymers Synthesis Design

Download or read book Conjugated Polymers Synthesis Design written by Seth C. Rasmussen and published by American Chemical Society. This book was released on 2023-12-01 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This digital primer serves as an excellent introduction to conjugated polymers, particularly in terms of their synthesis and design. Chapters one and two introduce common terminology and fundamental concepts. Chapter three covers known structure–function relationships that can be used to design conjugated polymers with the desired properties for specific applications, concluding with a discussion of the additive and sometimes conflicting aspects of these design elements. Chapters four, five, and six cover the various methods used to synthesize these materials, beginning with the oldest and most simple approaches, and increasing in synthetic complexity. Advanced undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty wishing to enter this field for the first time should find this primer beneficial. At the same time, however, we have pointed out various misconceptions still commonly found in the literature, which should be valuable to those already familiar with these materials.
