Book Ambient Literature

Download or read book Ambient Literature written by Tom Abba and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-11-30 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book considers how a combination of place-based writing and location responsive technologies produce new kinds of literary experiences. Building on the work done in the Ambient Literature Project (2016–2018), this books argues that these encounters constitute new literary forms, in which the authored text lies at the heart of an embodied and mediated experience. The visual, sonic, social and historic resources of place become the elements of a live and emergent mise-en-scène. Specific techniques of narration, including hallucination, memory, history, place based writing, and drama, as well as reworking of traditional storytelling forms combine with the work of app and user experience design, interaction, software authoring, and GIS (geographical information systems) to produce ambient experiences where the user reads a textual and sonic literary space. These experiences are temporary, ambiguous, and unpredictable in their meaning but unlike the theatre, the gallery, or the cinema they take place in the everyday shared world. The book explores the potentiality of a new literary form produced by the exchange between location-aware cultural objects, writers and readers. This book, and the work it explores, lays the ground for a new poetics of situated writing and reading practices.

Book Ambiance Tourism and the City

Download or read book Ambiance Tourism and the City written by Iñigo Sánchez-Fuarros and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-04-28 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ambiance, Tourism and the City considers how tourism and urban development affect the lived ambiances of contemporary cities around the world. As most of the existing literature on sensory atmospheres says little about the intersection between tourism and atmospheric production, this book affirms the centrality of the notion of ambiance as a mode of inquiry into the making and remaking of urban places for tourist consumption. The book takes the reader into the sensory worlds of a traditional Italian marketplace, a jungle park in Kuala Lumpur, a slum in the Colombian city of Medellín, or the "sun and sand" tourism destinations in Southern Spain, among other case studies. It offers new insights into the impact of tourism on the urban environment from multidisciplinary perspectives and a wide range of geographical regions across Europe, North America, Asia, and South America. Through these contemporary case studies, the book further deepens our understanding of the ways in which "ambiances" and "atmospheres" pervade the physical regeneration and sensory transformation of contemporary tourist destinations. Conversely, this book offers insights on the effects of tourism on everyday urban experience. By bringing together a diverse group of scholars and case studies to present a global perspective on the atmospheric production of the tourist city, this book is to serve as a valuable reference tool for researchers and undergraduate and postgraduate students with an interest in urban ambiances, tourism, cultural geography, and urban planning.

Book Drawing Ambience

Download or read book Drawing Ambience written by Igor Marjanović and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing Ambience showcases a selection of drawings from the personal collection of the noted architectural educator Alvin Boyarsky (1928-1990). As chairman of the Architectural Association (AA) in London (1971-1990), Boyarsky accumulated an impressive collection of drawings at a time when the AA produced an extraordinary program of exhibitions and publications rooted in drawing not only as a representational medium but also a form of architecture in its own right. Boyarsky s drawing collection emerged at the confluence of modernism, postmodernism, and other cultural currents worldwide, capturing the work of artists and architects such as Alexander Brodsky and Ilya Utkin, Frank Gehry, Zaha Hadid, John Hejduk, Daniel Libeskind, Mary Miss, OMA, Eduardo Paolozzi, Superstudio, Shin Takamatsu, Bernard Tschumi, and Peter Wilson. The publication features a full-length essay situating Boyarsky s collection in the emergence of architecture as a global discursive discipline as well as close analysis of fifty of the most imaginative, visionary drawings in it. Exquisite reproductions of each of the featured drawings and prints, along with portfolios of limited-edition publications from the AA, are supplemented by close-up and microscopic images, providing an unprecedented opportunity to explore the imaginative spirit of drawing practices central to the magnetic web of conversations in the architectural discourse, both historical and contemporary, including the discipline s renewed interest in the hand as it relates to drawing and making. Book The Aesthetics of Atmospheres

Download or read book The Aesthetics of Atmospheres written by Gernot Böhme and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2016-09-13 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interest in sensory atmospheres and architectural and urban ambiances has been growing for over 30 years. A key figure in this field is acclaimed German philosopher Gernot Böhme whose influential conception of what atmospheres are and how they function has been only partially available to the English-speaking public. This translation of key essays along with an original introduction charts the development of Gernot Böhme's philosophy of atmospheres and how it can be applied in various contexts such as scenography, commodity aesthetics, advertising, architecture, design, and art. The phenomenological analysis of atmospheres has proved very fruitful and its most important, and successful, application has been within aesthetics. The material background of this success may be seen in the ubiquitous aestheticization of our lifeworld, or from another perspective, of the staging of everything, every event and performance. The theory of atmospheres becoming an aesthetic theory thus reveals the theatrical, not to say manipulative, character of politics, commerce, of the event-society. But, taken as a positive theory of certain phenomena, it offers new perspectives on architecture, design, and art. It made the spatial and the experience of space and places a central subject and hence rehabilitated the ephemeral in the arts. Taking its numerous impacts in many fields together, it initiated a new humanism: the individual as a living person and his or her perspective are taken seriously, and this fosters the ongoing democratization of culture, in particular the possibility for everybody to participate in art and its works.

Book Dynamic Neural Networks for Robot Systems Data Driven and Model Based Applications

Download or read book Dynamic Neural Networks for Robot Systems Data Driven and Model Based Applications written by Long Jin and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-07-24 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Neural network control has been a research hotspot in academic fields due to the strong ability of computation. One of its wildly applied fields is robotics. In recent years, plenty of researchers have devised different types of dynamic neural network (DNN) to address complex control issues in robotics fields in reality. Redundant manipulators are no doubt indispensable devices in industrial production. There are various works on the redundancy resolution of redundant manipulators in performing a given task with the manipulator model information known. However, it becomes knotty for researchers to precisely control redundant manipulators with unknown model to complete a cyclic-motion generation CMG task, to some extent. It is worthwhile to investigate the data-driven scheme and the corresponding novel dynamic neural network (DNN), which exploits learning and control simultaneously. Therefore, it is of great significance to further research the special control features and solve challenging issues to improve control performance from several perspectives, such as accuracy, robustness, and solving speed.
