Book The Journey

Download or read book The Journey written by Pat Marquis and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2019-05-21 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On March 17th of 2015, my wife Rhonda, "Horse-n-Around", and I, the "Wrangler", embarked on an epic journey. My role as Wrangler was to manage all the logistics of our travels, with me driving our new Dodge truck with the "Hilton" attached and meeting my bride along the route wherever possible. She would be either on a Chestnut, a Grey or a Bay, every day riding Northwards on the Pacific Crest Trail, with a start at the Mexican Border and hoping to reach the Canadian border, 2,660 miles away. Rhonda would ride on some of the most rugged and treacherous trail, and view some of the most spectacular vistas in the West. And I would be driving to the next meeting place at a road or trail junction, all the while seeing that we had ample water, food and fodder for our horses and for ourselves safely packed away in the Hilton. Rhonda would be on the crest of the mountain slopes with me in the valleys and nether lands, looking for a likely spot for an overnight stay with horses in tow. Rhonda rode nearly 1,450 miles on the PCT, entirely alone except for the first 3 miles, the last 53 miles when I was able to join her, and for a week when our dear friend Gerry was able to ride and support her. It was a well thought out plan, but not a perfect plan because at every twist in the road or bend in the trail we never knew what we would encounter. But that's the adventure part of the story, isn't it? Rhonda said it best, "Will I ever go back and finish those miles I missed? I can't say so yet. I'll have to see how I feel in the future. This was a big year for Pat & I because I turned 60, Pat turns 70 & we celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary. I'm glad I was able to undertake this adventure at this time. I owe a huge "THANK YOU" to my husband, Patrick, for all the support, both mentally and physically, that he gave me as I worked my way through the challenges of this trail. I'm so very pleased that he rode with me at the end!" "Thank you everyone for joining us on our way." R

Book Farm Stories

Download or read book Farm Stories written by George Rock and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2024-10-21 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: George Rock grew up in the 1950’s on a central Alberta farm that was very typical in some ways, but unusual in others. Thanks to the Rock family’s inherited expertise, knack for innovation, and openness to ideas from colleagues and hired hands, the farm thrived through the 1940’s and 1950’s. They specialized as suppliers of breeding stock and registered seed to other farms, while extending the business into more unusual endeavours, including purebred sheep and thoroughbred racehorses. As George matured, he also witnessed the widespread impact of mechanization, which enabled the farm to expand in the 1960’s but also brought new challenges. Despite being from a small, geographically isolated community, George was exposed early on to the larger world through stories from his extended family and the farm’s ethnically diverse hired hands. Third in a family of four, his education included not only a one-room schoolhouse, but also trips to the US and neighbouring provinces. Even as he grew, learned, and got up to mischief with his younger sister; mourned the untimely death of his eldest brother when he was eleven and saw his family embroiled in a national political scandal when he was thirteen. Begun as reminiscences for his grandchildren, the stories in this book recall a rural world that is much changed, while also reflecting universal themes of innovation, humour, and family adaptation.

Book A History of Fatigue

    Book Details:
  • Author : Georges Vigarello
  • Publisher : John Wiley & Sons
  • Release : 2022-10-14
  • ISBN : 1509549269
  • Pages : 374 pages

Download or read book A History of Fatigue written by Georges Vigarello and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2022-10-14 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Stress,” “burn out,” “mental overload”: the twentieth and twenty-first centuries have witnessed an unrelenting expansion of the meaning of fatigue. The tentacles of exhaustion insinuated themselves into every aspect of our lives, from the workplace to the home, from our relationships with friends and family to the most intimate aspects of our lives. All around us are the signs of a “burn-out society,” a society in which fatigue has become the norm. How did this happen? This pioneering book explores the rich and little-known history of fatigue from the Middle Ages to the present. Vigarello shows that our understanding of fatigue, the words used to describe it, and the symptoms and explanations of it have varied greatly over time, reflecting changing social mores and broader aspects of social and political life. He argues that the increased autonomy of people in Western societies (whether genuine or assumed), the positing of a more individualized self, and the ever expanding ideal of independence and freedom have constantly made it more difficult for us to withstand anything that constrains or limits us. This painful contradiction causes weariness as well as dissatisfaction. Fatigue spreads and becomes stronger, imperceptibly permeating everything, seeping into ordinary moments and unexpected places. Ranging from the history of war, religion and work to the history of the body, the senses and intimacy, this history of fatigue shows how something that seems permanently centered in our bodies has, over the course of centuries, also been ingrained in our minds, in the end affecting the innermost aspects of the self.

Drawing upon his extensive experience in marketing, sales, coaching, parenting, and life, Mr. Rickman has succeeded where many of his predecessors have not. Fair-to-Fabulous is not only entertaining and inspirational, but it is also educational and useful. Rather than simply relying upon feel good stories or five rules for a lifetime of bliss, the book employs the use of questions rather than pat answers. By posing carefully crafted sets of basic questions and open lists for the reader to consider and then answer in each chapter, by the end the reader has not only been on an illuminating journey of self-discovery, but even more importantly a clearer path forward towards a more rich and rewarding personal and professional life. Book The Kid Looks Back Short Stories Tall Tales

Download or read book The Kid Looks Back Short Stories Tall Tales written by Ritchie R. Moorhead and published by Author House. This book was released on 2011-07-12 with total page 642 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Kid Looks Back is a collection of sixty-eight stories that cover a wide range of topics. I hope that his book will be a gentle hiding place where you can go to get away from something, return to something or go where you have never been. Some of these stories are true. Others are factually true, although bit embellished. Others are outright fabrications. Most look back to a kinder, mellower time. Digging for worms, swimming in a pond, using an outhouse or wading in a river may bring gross evaluations from our urbanized cousins. I hope that this book introduces them to life with a smile. Most of the stories have a message. Many are simply humorous. Entertainment is the motive. Carefree is the mood. Try to find yourself within these pages. May the beak of reality crack your comfort shell. Start anywhere. Finish anytime. Enjoy!
