Book A Simulation Model for the Greater Snow Goose Population

Download or read book A Simulation Model for the Greater Snow Goose Population written by J. Gauvin and published by Environment Canada, Canadian Wildlife Service. This book was released on 1987 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reports on a mathematical model developed to understand and simulate the growth of the Greater Snow Geese population. Used three parameters: the size of the population in spring, the percentage of juvenile geese in the fall flight, and the numbers of geese killed by hunters in the USA and Canada over the past 20 years. Model is available on diskette for interactive use on IBM PC microcomputers.

Book Population Modelling and Management of Snow Geese

Download or read book Population Modelling and Management of Snow Geese written by H. Boyd and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document consists of three separate but related papers. The objective of the first is to improve managerial understanding of the impact of spring hunting by indigenous peoples in northern Canada. It is an analysis of the relative impact of hunting in the spring, compared with the conventional hunting seasons in fall and winter. In the second paper, Cooke et al. comments on the model and the choice of parameters that was used in a paper by Rockwell et al., and which provided the underpinning for the argument in that paper that a great increase in the hunting kill of Snow Geese was required to reverse the rapid increase in the numbers of those geese. In the third paper, Rockwell and Ankney counter Cooke's claims.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The northeast coast of James Bay was chosen for study because of its importance as a staging area for migrating geese and because of the development of the La Grande hydroelectric complex, the main structures of which are along the La Grande River, which empties into the northeastern part of James Bay. In 1990 and 1991, use of coastal habitats by Canada Geese Branta canadensis and Atlantic Brant B. bernicla hrota was studied along the northeast coast of James Bay"--Abstract.

This book was released on 1997 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This volume covers all the major, broad-scale, multispecies monitoring programs in Canada aimed at tracking changes in species abundance. There are many other more local monitoring programs (e.g., tracking owls in Manitoba, the Red-shouldered Hawk Survey in Ontario, and game bird harvest surveys in many provinces) and a few national-scale surveys aimed at particular species (e.g., the Canadian Lakes Loon Survey), which are not covered in any detail here"--Introd.

Book excerpt: The International Society for Ecological Modelling (ISEM) sponsors conferences, workshops and training courses with the aim of advancing the development of ecological and environmental modelling. The 3rd International Conference on the state-of-the-art in ecological modelling was sponsored by the ISEM in cooperation with the National Park Service Water Resources Laboratory and hosted by the Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory at Colorado State University. Its theme was the application of ecological modelling to environmental management and this book contains the full texts of the three invited papers presented in the five general sessions, plus the final summaries and syntheses of the topics covered during those sessions.

Book The Abundance and Distribution of Estuarine Birds in the Strait of Georgia British Columbia

Download or read book The Abundance and Distribution of Estuarine Birds in the Strait of Georgia British Columbia written by Robert William Butler and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The present publication follows an earlier report by Vermeer and Butler (1989) that described the physical and biological environment, prey organisms, and ecology of waterbirds in the Strait of Georgia. Here, we compare the year-round abundance, distribution, and energy consumption of birds in five large estuaries and one small urban estuary in the Strait of Georgia. We use the traditional definition of an estuary: the lower deltaic portion of a river and the nearby shallow waters in the freshwater plume"--Introd.
