She is a devout Christian woman who prayed, spoke the Word of God over her family, and never gave up. But everything soon changed when she heard the voice of God direct her to look through her husband's dresser drawers one night. With Denise's world, she once knew came crashing down around her, she had turned to her faith in Jesus Christ. She turned her faith to the one who promised to never leave her or forsake her (Hebrews 13:5, Deuteronomy 31:6). This is a true story of one Christian woman who never gave up on life. Never gave up through a painful divorce, poverty, criticism, and her kids being scattered. With all odds stacked against her, she goes to college, true love of a Christian man finds her, moves to Connecticut, gets remarried, and with the help of the Almighty God, starts an online ministry called "Broken but Beautiful Ministries," all by faith in God. Denise was broken in so many ways. However, she was broken but beautiful through Father God in so many ways.

Book excerpt: A devastating account of how Australia’s family courts fail children, families and victims of domestic abuse The family courts intimately affect the lives of those who come before them. Judges can decide where you are allowed to live and work, which school your child can attend and whether you are even permitted to see your child. Lawyers can interrogate every aspect of your personal life during cross-examination, and argue whether or not you are fit to be a parent. Broken explores the complexities and failures of Australia’s family courts through the stories of children and parents whose lives have been shattered by them. Camilla Nelson and Catharine Lumby take the reader into the back rooms of the system to show what it feels like to be caught up in spirals of abusive litigation. They reveal how the courts have been politicised by Pauline Hanson and men’s rights groups, and how those they are meant to protect most – children – are silenced or treated as property. Exploring the legal culture, gender politics and financial incentives that drive the system, Broken reveals how the family courts – despite the high ideals on which they were founded – have turned into the worst possible place for vulnerable families and children. Camilla Nelson is an associate professor in media at the University of Notre Dame Australia. A former Walkley Award winner, her writing has appeared in The Conversation, The Independent, Guardian Australia, Mamamia, Marie Claire and the ABC. Broken is her fifth book. Catharine Lumby is a media professor at the University of Sydney. She has a law degree, is the author of six books and has written for The Guardian, The Sydney Morning Herald, ABC-TV and The Bulletin. 'What happens to kids in our family law system should be a national scandal – and yet, so few people know about it. This book finally lifts the lid on this broken system, and shows how this once-great institution now regularly orders children to see or live with dangerous parents, and bankrupts the victim-parents trying to protect them. An urgent call to action.'—Jess Hill, author of See What You Made Me Do 'This searing review of Australia’s family court system is in turns heartbreaking and enraging. Drawing on recent cases and interviews, it shows how family violence continues to be misunderstood and how violent perpetrators are able to manipulate the legal system. It reveals that too often children are not heard, sometimes with devastating outcomes. This book is an urgent appeal: we must do better.'—Professor Heather Douglas, author of Women, Intimate Partner Violence and the Law

Book Shattered Family

Download or read book Shattered Family written by Savannah Rain and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-02-07 with total page 806 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shattered Family Shattered Family is the true story of both a direct and extended family and others impacted by a number of real-life sociopath and/or sociopath type predators/abusers. This book describes such predators thought patterns (what is known of them), behaviors, scams, plots and various abuses in detailed form as well as the typical personality traits of both the predators and their victims. Some of this book is presented in journal or memoir form while other portions are in essay and list form. This book is a great asset for victims, support persons for victims, family members and others. This is particularly true since Shattered Family describes forms of abuse most would not be able to comprehend exist, such as the sociopaths predators ability to successfully use law enforcement and others in authority to abuse his victims and exercise complete control over his victim(s) life/lives. This book additionally offers a long real-life movie list as visual aid support. A must read for victims and those who wish to help victims of the sociopath and/or sociopath type abuser. Some Reviews: This is a rare book of raw scalding material regarding an unknown reality of abuse and the abuse cycle that occurs within what Savannah Rain refers to as the Inner-circle. This honestly IS a must read book. G.Y. An imperfect person, as we all are, writes the truth as it truly is. The unheard of yet very real behaviors of sociopaths and what they do behind the scenes. Victims check out this book and see that you are not alone. T.J. Finally! Someone has the guts to tell it like it is! I previewed this book and recommend it for all adults in societies all over the world. The get a clue wake up call is finally here. J.M. A raw book with no sugar coating for the victims of sociopaths. An unusually intuitive directly honest author setting the record straight for many victims of predators who heartlessly commit similar abuses every day. K.R. Its really not the Twilight Zone. These predators do this stuff. Wake up America and smell the garbage so many ignorant and uncaring minions are supporting. Savannah Rain spells it out in graphic detail that is sometimes hard to read and Im sure impossible to believe unless youve lived it and some of us have. So we know it is horrifyingly real. I recommend this book to victims and professionals who come into contact with victims in the worst ongoing moments of those victims lives. What I may have been spared if Id read this book many years ago. Survivor, no name for the public. I have previewed Rains book and found it to be enlightening and scary. I will be keeping my eyes and ears open for the signs and evaluating my life a little more carefully now. Some things have happened to me, in my relationship that never happened before in my 35 years in this world. I thought may have him manipulating things because of what I was told by others. Now I am more sure. No rash moves, but I am thinking about what I have been through, seen and heard. By J.M. This book is a double fisted sucker punch-out that never stops hitting and hitting home with every page. The harsh reality of the life of a sociopaths victim profoundly described. C.H. yay! Kudos to you for reaching out with the truth! if EVERYONE knew about narcissism and sociopaths they would avoid them and maybe the world would be rid of them! By Kat

Book Fault Lines

Download or read book Fault Lines written by Karl Pillemer, Ph.D. and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2022-11-01 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Real solutions to a hidden epidemic: family estrangement. Estrangement from a family member is one of the most painful life experiences. It is devastating not only to the individuals directly involved--collateral damage can extend upward, downward, and across generations, More than 65 million Americans suffer such rifts, yet little guidance exists on how to cope with and overcome them. In this book, Karl Pillemer combines the advice of people who have successfully reconciled with powerful insights from social science research. The result is a unique guide to mending fractured families. Fault Lines shares for the first time findings from Dr. Pillemer's ten-year groundbreaking Cornell Reconciliation Project, based on the first national survey on estrangement; rich, in-depth interviews with hundreds of people who have experienced it; and insights from leading family researchers and therapists. He assures people who are estranged, and those who care about them, that they are not alone and that fissures can be bridged. Through the wisdom of people who have "been there," Fault Lines shows how healing is possible through clear steps that people can use right away in their own families. It addresses such questions as: How do rifts begin? What makes estrangement so painful? Why is it so often triggered by a single event? Are you ready to reconcile? How can you overcome past hurts to build a new future with a relative? Tackling a subject that is achingly familiar to almost everyone, especially in an era when powerful outside forces such as technology and mobility are lessening family cohesion, Dr. Pillemer combines dramatic stories, science-based guidance, and practical repair tools to help people find the path to reconciliation.

Book excerpt: As bullets ring and bombs are dropped, children watch—mostly from the sidelines, but occasionally in the direct line of fire. Unaware of the political issues or power struggles behind the battle, all they know are the human, emotional consequences of this thing called war. This collection examines all of war’s implications for young people—from those caught in the line of fire to the children of the veterans of wars long past. Critically acclaimed author Jennifer Armstrong brings together 12 powerful voices in young people's literature to explore the realities of war from a child's perspective. The settings vary widely—the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, an attempted coup in Venezuela, the American Civil War, crisis in the Middle East—but the effects are largely the same. In war, no life is ever left untouched. In war, lives are shattered.

Book excerpt: One of The Atlantic's Great American Novels Winner of the 2016 International Dublin Literary Award "Gorgeously tender at its core…beautiful, heartstopping…Family Life really blazes." —Sonali Deraniyagala, New York Times Book Review Hailed as a "supreme storyteller" (Philadelphia Inquirer) for his "cunning, dismaying and beautifully conceived" fiction (New York Times), Akhil Sharma is possessed of a narrative voice "as hypnotic as those found in the pages of Dostoyevsky" (The Nation). In his highly anticipated second novel, Family Life, he delivers a story of astonishing intensity and emotional precision. We meet the Mishra family in Delhi in 1978, where eight-year-old Ajay and his older brother Birju play cricket in the streets, waiting for the day when their plane tickets will arrive and they and their mother can fly across the world and join their father in America. America to the Mishras is, indeed, everything they could have imagined and more: when automatic glass doors open before them, they feel that surely they must have been mistaken for somebody important. Pressing an elevator button and the elevator closing its doors and rising, they have a feeling of power at the fact that the elevator is obeying them. Life is extraordinary until tragedy strikes, leaving one brother severely brain-damaged and the other lost and virtually orphaned in a strange land. Ajay, the family’s younger son, prays to a God he envisions as Superman, longing to find his place amid the ruins of his family’s new life. Heart-wrenching and darkly funny, Family Life is a universal story of a boy torn between duty and his own survival.

Book excerpt: In Healing a Shattered Soul, Mindy Corporon invites readers to join her search for inspiration and hope after domestic terrorism took the lives of her father and son. Headlines about the attack circled the world. Now, Mindy takes readers inside her family's struggle, the support of their faith community and her commitment to courageous kindness. A popular speaker, teacher and writer, Mindy has dedicated her life to encouraging kindness, faith and healing in congregations, companies and communities. Among the programs she has co-founded with this vision are the Faith Always Wins Foundation and Workplace Healing, LLC. She has traveled widely to lead workshops and speak at conferences, and also works with online events. She explains that she wrote this book "for those who are seeking inspiration; for those who are searching for a glimmer of hope and faith; and for those in need of necessary, supportive relationships, even in the hardest times." In his Foreword, best-selling author and pastor the Rev. Adam Hamilton writes, "Mindy Corporon's story helps us understand how one survives tragedy, and says to the reader, 'If Mindy can survive this, and can do what she has done, then surely I can survive the adversity I face and can bring something good from it.' " The book's Preface is a heart-felt appeal to readers from another mother who suffered a tragic loss to domestic terrorism in recent years. Susan Bro is the mother of Heather Heyer, killed in Charlottesville, Virginia. In her Preface, Susan writes, "Mothers lose their children to violence every day, and yet many have no time to grieve and receive little to no public support or attention. We must hold space in our hearts and minds for them as we continue to overcome hate with love. People say, 'Love always wins.' I say that is true when we practice that love in meaningful ways that make a difference. I see Mindy Corporon as one of those mothers doing exactly that. We never want other mothers to experience the pain and loss of losing a loved one, especially a child, to hate. I am honored to call Mindy Corporon my friend. Her book offers hope in a time of pain, pointing the way forward with faith and love. Read it and be encouraged to find your own way forward through pain and loss."
